FYI - Google Chrome 1.0 was released almost a month ago... and shed it's beta tag then.

in 75% of Facebook Users Reject New Design; Facebook Forces it on them Anyway! on Marketing Pilgrim
Yeah I agree with Dan, the quote reads '75% of the users who tried the new FB design, stuck with the new design.' So it seems that most users who tried it, liked it enough to stick with the design... contrary to the title of the post.

And I bet the 60% of users who haven't tried it either don't care about the design, didn't want to try something 'beta', didn't know how to do it, or didn't want to be bothered... my wife for example, didn't even notice the option until I pointed it out to her.

In my defense, I only *pretend* to sniff her toes. It makes her laugh hysterically, so I bite the bullet and get close to those stinky feet.

in Must watch video: Moyers talk with Rev. Jeremiah Wright on End * on * End
The question now is, why isn't this being covered in the MSM? Just checked msnbc.com, cnn.com, abcnews.com -- nothing on the homepage. Even looking at the more liberal online news sites, like huffingtonpost.com, talkingpointsmemo.com and dailykos.com have virtually noting on the homepage.

The only sites I did find anything was truthdig.com and surpisingly the only MSM site that had any mention of this on the homepage was foxnews.com.

in Super Delegates on End * on * End
Don't really think it will be an issue unless the super delegates go against the will of the people. Possible, I guess, but unlikely.

And, as far as crash and burn goes, the Repubs have been doing such a *fantastic* job the last 8 years, I think the Dems will be hard pressed to meet up with them at the bottom of the heap. Although I do wish this primary season was over already. It's way too long.

Agreed. The outrage is ridiculous. No one is forcing you to use the 'Share' functionality nor is Google publishing your entire account. If you want to send it to someone specifically or a group of people, use the Email function. Couldn't get any easier than that!

in Radiohead’s Music Downloads - An Experiment on Marketing Pilgrim
I'm not sure if any of you guys are Radiohead fans, but to me (who has all of their albums), I don't think Radiohead falls into the single track realm of most "pop" music - especially all of their albums since OK Computer. They are complete experiences to me and I think that is the way Radiohead wants to present their music.

Anyway, for the cost of one track on iTunes, you can have the entire Radiohead album, if you choose to pay that much. So, I don't really think the lack of single tracks is an issue.

And as far as marketing and spreading the word goes, I think the publicity this move is getting is doing a great job for them. I can't even count how many articles I've read in Google Reader (from a wide variety of sites) that have commented on the move and linked to the Radiohead sites. And that is not even counting the MSM coverage. Seth Godin would be very proud of Radiohead, IMO.

in Radiohead’s Music Downloads - An Experiment on Marketing Pilgrim
If Radiohead gets 200,000 downloads (which I think is well within reach) at even $1 a pop, it will give them a good chunk of change. Definitely covers the recording costs, no doubt. Add in merchandise, sold out tours, the collector's discbox, and not having to pay anyone (other then themselves), I think Radiohead will make out very well in the end. I think it is a brilliant strategy for them.

in Six reasons NOT to try to be an online retailer on Marketing Pilgrim
@Greg - I meant a site that cost a few hundred dollars, since that is the example you used in your post. Should have been more clear, sorry!

in Six reasons NOT to try to be an online retailer on Marketing Pilgrim
I disagree with most of this, mainly because success is relative (saying you can't be successful with a few hundred dollar e-commerce site is ridiculous - yeah, you probably won't make a million dollars, but make a profit? Or provide yourself with a healthy extra income? Certainly possible and considered a success for a lot of people.)

Plus, I agree with Seth Godin: today's Web is primed with niche opportunities. You just need to be able to recognize them and move a LOT faster than you did even a few years ago.

Not to mention there are a ton of resources out there for internet marketing, small businesses, SEM, etc. etc. (SEOMoz, this site, Godin, the list goes on...) A LOT more than even a couple years ago. There's just no golden guide in one location that provides all the answers. But that is the beauty of blogs, websites and linking - the answer to your question/problem may only be a click away.

in 2007/05/16/amazon-digital-music-store/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
eMusic has been DRM-free forever and I believe it is one of the most popular pay-for-music download sites this side of iTunes.

Also, it's subscription only in the sense that you pay a monthly fee to download a set amount of songs... and unlike other subscription services, you keep the songs after you end your subscription. Plus each song works out to be like a third of iTunes cost (I think like $0.30 for the plan I use...)

It's indie only, but highly recommended. Lots of good artists and labels are involved.

in Guess he doesn’t want to block any more tubes… on End * on * End
TPMmuckraker reports today, that Senator Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia) may also be holding up the bill.

TPM characterizes Byrd:

"Byrd, whose penchant for pork would probably win him the Pork Crown if he weren't saddled with minority status..."

Very disappointing.

Just wanted to clarify on the "proposed online database that would provide easy access to all federal spending," because my original post wasn't all that clear.

The proposal is for a website that allows the public to view government spending (what and how much), which will allow for better oversight and smarter decisions by the voters.

Any sane democratic-minded person would be in favor of this, so it has to be the tubes! ;-)
