in Growing and learning on Six Small Hands
Thanks for the update! I was just thinking yesterday, Melisa and Jason haven't updated their blog lately, I wonder how the girls are doing? It sounds like things are going well! Lucy certainly seems to be ahead of the game in terms of development! I see 2-year-olds in clinic who definitely don't do all the things that she does. And as for her language development, the best way to develop language in kids is to talk to them and read to them. It's really that simple. You don't really need to "teach" them to talk...they just learn by example! Reading, singing, having a conversation with them (even if its a bit one-sided) are all great things to do.
How cute to hear about how much they all three love each other! I can't wait to meet Zoey and Stella one of these days. My friend has identical twin girls who are 2 1/2 now, and she was just telling me that when one of them is crying at night in their room (which they share) the other won't wake up...until mom or dad takes the crying one out of the room. Then the other one is up instantly and crying, as if she can sense that her sister is no longer as close to her as she is supposed to be. The connection between siblings that spend 8ish months in such an enclosed space is really fascinating, but I guess not that surprising.
Anyhoo, glad to hear things are going well. It makes me excited to think about babies of my own....someday. Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

in Christmas suggestions? on Six Small Hands
I noticed the other day that they still make Lincoln Logs, and I was thinking how fun they would be to give to a kid. Although I think they involve small pieces so Lucy might not quite be old enough yet...but I wonder if they still make the giant "Duplo" version of legos? Some sort of building toy would be fun for years.
My favorite costume when I was little was a bug costume that my mom made me...she cut holes in a pillow case for my arms and legs, dyed it green, and stuffed stuffing in, then tied two strings around so that I had 3 sections to my bug body. She made antennas and attached them to a headband, and I wore green tights and a green long sleeve shirt under the bug body. Warm, easy, and cute! You could make two different color bugs, or a lady bug and a caterpillar, or make one a caterpillar and one a butterfly, there are all sorts of variations. Plus it is science-y! I guess a pillow case might be too big for the twins, but I'm sure you could figure out some sort of variation that would fit them, or you could just have Lucy be the bug this year.

Ooh Ooh I want to be on the list! I have been thinking about you every day and wondering how it is going!
(of course, if Joe is already on the list, you don't really have to add me, because I would hope he would tell me!)
Congrats on reaching 34 weeks! Hang in there!

Yay! Joe showed me your new blog and I am LOVING it! It is so much fun to read about your exciting journey, especially all the medical talk since I am starting my pediatric residency right now. I am happy to hear that things are going well for you so far, and I can't wait to hear how everything progresses. Thanks for sharing! Hope all 5 of you are doing well!
