Today, one laptop in 10 is stolen, yet theft deterrent technology is nearly non-existent, so I wanted to explore new solutions.

You're right, it's not being reported on because TV channels and the rest of the media are in the business of making money form advertisement. If they make a show about it, viewers will be sad, angry about it, which will adversely affect their response to advertisement.

In other words, they'll rather show you something about Texas from a bird's view than real issues, because what's positive sells goods, but bad news don't.

One media outlet who decides to air bad news might get reprimanded or criticized by advertisers and even dropped.

YES this type of device saves power.

YES the device itself consumes a bit of power but a lot less than what it saves.

NO it won't pay for itself in 6-12 months..more like 2 years. Definitely worth it if you can afford it.

It looks like the panel only rotates a little, then stops where it would hit the edge of the roof.

IF the roof was able to stand at 90 degrees and also lay entirely flat, that would make a real diffeence.

Raise fuel taxes, make public transportation free, increase service X3 and you'll have an increase in ridership.

But there are also 'non-physical' factors: Someone who bought a house 20 years ago pays property tax on the value of the house when he bought it. He lives 1h from work and would like to live closer to it but......selling his house and buying another one of identical present value does not make financial sense. He would have to pay property tax based on the current value (much higher than it was 20 years ago).

As a result, people are reluctant to move close to work.

The only way to go solar in the gigawatt range is with large scale power plants. Some people might just not get it...they think that if a few hundred big box stores go solar it will do the job, when in fact these installations aren't even enough to satisfy the store's energy use. It is part of the solution, but its impact is a tiny fraction of the amount of solar power needed to cover our needs.

Our energy consumption is huge, and the only way to counter it is with huge solar power plants in the desert. Compare that to coal or nuclear plants, if you think those are a viable, long term solution.

Have you checked the price of nuclear combustible? Investment companies are stockpiling it to drive the price way up...and it already has increased by 1000% over the last decade. And where does it come from? You guessed right, from abroad.

The costs of building, operating and decomissioning a nuclear power plant have exploded, and no one in the government considers it as a serious option anymore (for now)

Wind and solar is the way to go. There shall be no confusion about that.

This notion that us 'superior' humans have the right to kill and eat other species just because they are 'inferior' is repulsive.

There is no justification for making any animal suffer more than the minimum needed to kill it. For example there are machines that feed Co2 to animals and kill them painlessly, yet slaughterhouses work like nazi torture camps where animals are hung upside down and their throats cut until their bleed to death.. ....if there are painless ways to kill, then a painful death is a crime.

What IF the drying part area could be flipped upside-down to reveal a flat surface? That way, users who don't need it or don't want to see it have the option to hide it.

How could that be integrated? Maybe the drying rack area detaches, or could it be hinged and rotated?

Another idea is that the entire drying area, once it's full of plates and cutlery, could be lowered under the countertop for drying / storage out of view.

Just a few ideas from a Product Designer. Congratulations for trying to solve a problem, take everyone's input, but don't let naysayers discourage you.

Global warming causes more problems than advantages. Yes it will be easier to grow food in some areas, but on the other side, vast areas of land will become desert. Drought will be increased globally. Considering that 1 out of 3 humans today does not have direct access to water, I let you make the conclusion of what will happen. But maybe that doesn't bother you, maybe you'll be happy in your Florida retirement home. The problem is, not everyone on earth is like us.

So saying CO2 is good, that it only has advantages and that it will make more food grow....that is absurd.

I have been building prototypes made of fiberglass for years.

Fiberglass production is ILLEGAL in the state of California due to the toxic fumes it releases in the air. Calling fiberglass 'green' does not make sense, as one has to use POLYESTER RESIN to apply it...and that is what caues fumes.

The question we should ask is, IS THERE A GREEN SUBSTITUTE FOR POLYESTER RESIN?

In my 15 years of bike riding, I have never had a single accident with another vehicle.

I would like, however, to point out that many bicyclists do not take good enough precautions when in traffic.

What I observed is that cyclists often veer off too far to the left, stressing drivers who have to evaluate if there is enough space to pass.

When riding in traffic, ride as far to the right as possible, ride at the same speed as traffic so that vehicles can pass you at 5mph rather than at 20mpf (speed difference), look over your shoulders often and pay attention to noises...detect potential dangers as far ahead as possible.

Here's a few examples of absurd laws, in Pasadena CA:

The number of floors in new residential buildings is limited to 3.

Each new building has to come with a parking lot that can accomodate as many cars as there are people fitting into the building.

As a result, you have low-density urban areas with 50% of the land occupied by guess what? Parking lots. If buildings were 10 floors tall and there would be less parking spots, people would be forced to move close to work, reducing traffic.

Geneva, Switzerland had passed such law in the 80s. Traffic lights were equipped with additional lights displaying "turn off engine".

The law was removed shortly later, as it became obvious that restarting a motor after 30 seconds created MORE pollution than having it run while the light is red.

What IF the drying part area could be flipped upside-down to reveal a flat surface? That way, users who don't need it or don't want to see it have the option to hide it.

How could that be integrated? Maybe the drying rack area detaches, or could it be hinged and rotated?

Another idea is that the entire drying area, once it's full of plates and cutlery, could be lowered under the countertop for drying / storage out of view.

Just a few ideas from a Product Designer. Congratulations for trying to solve a problem, take everyone's input, but don't let naysayers discourage you.

The more roads and parking lots, the more convenient driving becomes. Eliminating parking spots makes driving less attractive and promotes other forms of transportation.

It is an inconvenience, but one that has the potential to make our lives better in the long term.
