To live in an area where fruits and vegetables are plentiful all year round makes it easier. If a person lives in a climate that only permits seasonal growth of local produce, then a shift in mindset to decide not to buy imported produce. OPtions exist- you could set up a greenhouse and look into other options. The key is to be willing to be flexible and open-minded.

Re: A Feast For The Eyes: Greek Burger

Veggies are full of vitamins and minerals that energize and rejuvenate.

Re: Daily Travel Photo - Nara, Japan

Your courage and adventurous nature are guiding you along through very fulfilling experiences. It reminds me of the wisdom found in your books where you reveal that less can actually say more.

This post reminds me of a similar story about a senior monk. His peers were after him to discharge an obnoxious pupil who was always swearing and didn't strike them as "monk material."

"Send him on his way," they urged. But the senior monk refused.

"I will not do that," he replied. "This pupil is God's greatest gift to me."

This stunned his peers.

The senior monk said, "since this pupil has enterd my life, I have become more humble than ever before."

His peers simply looked at him, confused.

"You see, before I met this pupil, I thought I knew everything about patience, understanding, love, compassion and unconditional forgiveness. This pupil reminds me every day how much I still have to learn."

Re: A traditional Sufi story

Hi Paulo.
This is a wonderful story. This is a misunderstanding human beings nurture in thoughts of inadequacy, failure, doubt or general discontent. Choosing to be controlled by your emotional reactions creates further psychological distance from your truth. Turning your feelings around is one of the secrets to healing, to realizing you are perfection. This brings you to realize the power of unconditional self-acceptance and unwavering love.

Re: YouTube Reporter am DLD 2008: Paulo Coelho

I think the soul is one's own personal, mental creation. Media filter the authentic self and convey something other than who and what we are. Few people evolve to just simply be and emit their real energy. In it, Siegel asks how you would introduce yourself to God. In my mind, he already knows us better than we know ourselves. Still, he wants us to evolve to know who we are at the core. This is our true life's work-exploring the depths of the soul. Your books reflect facits of your own journey. I'm grateful to share in that as it inspires my journey into the depths of my soul.

Re: Quote of the Day

Sometimes feelings and experiences are not translatable into words. Each moment is an opportunity to discover the power of self-discipline, of innate self-worth and of developing abilities to transcend the things we have been conditioned to accept and aspire to.

In essence, our senses lie. They don't perceive reality without being trained to see past the self-created illusions. Whatever you have been told or conditioned to think, you can learn to think for yourself in ways that disregard what's in your head. You can come to believe you are loved, accepted and appreciated unconditionally for all you are. You can come to understand your life, its supposed tests, trials and tribulations all stretch you and make you stronger. You need nothing. You have no lack, no imperfection, no reason to doubt yourself. Every experience brings you closer to grasping this truth.

Re: Quote of the Day

Most people don't have a week to accept destiny. Its more like a series of split second scenarios. In moment and between moments, each of us is confronted with perceived events. Our reaction to each one connects the dots and creates what we come to sense as life. Awareness develops from the moment of conception. How we shape that, raise it up or not, is all part of a process that transforms the soul.

Re: Quote of the Day

As we choose to step back and rethink our dreams, we find the old ones will dissolve in favor of what results from self-growth and related revelations.

Re: On the Road to Kumano - part 4 of 5

This glimpse into an engaging story reminds us that we are each powerful, loveng spiritual beings. We have choices to listen and to trust our intuition, to take guided action from our inner soul. External judgment has the potential to distract us from our path and from our instinct to listen to ourselves. Yet, we also have opportunities to re-evaluate our thoughts and beliefs, and to tap into the spiritual power that invites us to be fully immersed in our journey.

Re: Quote of the Day

Courage is useful. We create our own idea of the universe in the mind, based on how we feel about ourselves.

To me, a 'modern' approach to spirituality doesn't require meeting other people's expectations any more or less than views of spirituality in the past. A sense of time is a construct, invention, or illusion. We live in a universe that seems real based on our understanding of our own thoughts and feelings at a given time. Who we were when we initially read The Alchemist may differ from who we see ourselves to be now. If we re-read this book, we would reframe harmony based on our own sense of personal growth since the last time we read it. If self-view changes, then an understanding of spirituality may also change.

Re: Quote of the Day

To rediscover your true self doesn't require you try to "be" or "do" anything. The line of thinking that enables humans to uncover truth, to learn to feel the inside of the self, is acually simple, different, and requires no inner struggle.

When a person doesn't choose to respect the past, he or she inevitably makes similar mistakes in future. Whatever you're doing now or are about to do, a few months ago, you may have never imagined. And yet, you can love what you do, who and where you are. You can evolve to trust your instincts and discern they have their own virtues. To realize whatever is going on around you doesn't have to brainwash or condition you to give up who you are, is a key step to opening your senses wider. We can each move away from irrational thinking and behaviour. its part of a process that indicates our growing self-awareness.

Re: Quote of the Day

Caring for the body is like caring for the spirit. Most of what human beings don't choose to understand in life relates to what they don't readily see. Some people believe the invisible truth might seem the hardest to discern. You realize you're expanding your awareness as you realize 'seeing' in human terms has nothing to do with it. Its all about learning to look in ways and directions you hadn't considered before. The truth must be felt. It defies explanation because that isn't what its about. Each person is meant to figure it out for himself or herself. What you're told about love, faith and other concepts doesn't ever ring true. Only experience does.

Re: How the path was forged

Wisdom grows when one realizes how to listen to the self at the core and doesn't disregard intuition. If you choose to view something as a mistake, you permit regret to control you and distract you from truth. Perceived mistakes don't destroy you. It is the fear of accepting yourself that destroys you, the fear of dissolving ego and recognizeing bliss is all you are. This has less to do with the focus of the writing than unresolved issues inside the critic. If you love someone's work, you are, in some sense, expressing a facit of unconditional love. Not everyone has yet learned to "go the distance," that is to accept other human beings despite choices that may not resonate in your own mind. The thing is, you aren't that other person so you aren't expected to make the same choices.

Re: Magic or risks?

Some people believe we have more than one "soulmate," and that we could be happy within ourselves whether we chose to partner with one or a number of other people. This idea resonates with me. At the same time, I also believe that souls reunite with other souls they have known in past lives. How we find one another is magic.

Personally, I've found that taking great risks can bring great personal rewards. This doesn't mean they take the initiative to do these things. This helps people begin to understand the difference between theory and practice, thinkers and doers. It can be a very long way between the conception of a thought and the effort exerted to make it happen. The mind can be a very powerful obstacle. You have indiviual conscious and unconscious awareness, as well as different levels of collective awareness that all interconnect in forms of energy on an energy grid. If you sense fear is an emotion generated by choice with a particular energy vibration, you can begin to sense how many people aligning with a particular thought and energy can combine to build or expand the consequences. That is, the more you think and talk about something, the more you give it your attention and energy, and the more you reinforce it as part of your truth in reality. If, however, you choose to consciously not to think about certain subjects, not to watch or listen to particular kinds of images and perspectives of news, then you are actively dissolving the hold you may have given fear to hold over you. Enslavement and possession are also choices. Yet, when the soul percieves itself to be free, it is not possible to confine it. Your soul is like a butterfly and your kindred spirit is the being who invites you to connect your life force back to your core. Your soul mate orients your life energy to circle back into yoruself. Ths is not control, but loving guidance. You are attuning to love on new frequencies.

Re: Association of the Week : The Flame

The flame is unwavering love energy that flickers to remind us of its different intnesities.

Re: Your Space in my Blog: 14th of January 2009

Human beings exist to learn what it means to dedicate themselves to the truth and confront the lies or illusions they have created. This revelation encourages a constant process of learning what it means to love and respect oneself. This also implies a willingness to self-monitor in order that we think and feel as accurately as possible the truth or reality as we perceive it at a given moment. When we lie to others, we also lie to ourselves. It is possible for every being to develop their capcity for openness and truthfulness. Witholding the thruth in favor of protecting a lie never serves you.

Re: Avoiding helping the devil

A person does not control the behaviour of others. A person can choose to adopt a similar view because someone else advised it or, a person can choose to experience life and evolve to discern the truth. Suffering permits indivduals to learn to stop identifying with external things. It urges you to explore deeper sides of yourself. If you believe that suffering is triggered when you identify with form, then you also begin to understand that suffering begins to dissolve when you acknowledge it and choose to work through it. Eckhart Tolle tells that, "suffering has a noble purpose: the evolution of consciousness and the buring up of ego." To read this and to experience it teach you different levels of awareness.

Re: Association of the Week: Bread

Bread is viewed in a range of forms such as a staple or optional side dish. Enlightenment occurs on different levels. Lessons are available everywhere. To nurture a pure heart means you grasp nakedness is natural, not shameful. You recognize complete transparency is not to be feared as weakness, but that vulnerability actually brings strength. No human being has anything to hide. NOthing is ever hidden from Source. The belief you can hide and have reason to hide anything is an illusion that perpetuates other illusions. You may reminisce of student days in class. Teacher call on peers to answer questions and the student's mind seemed elsewhere. How you treat people sends a kind of energy into the universe that reflects back at you in some other form. This is why it is in your interest to treat people how you would like to be treated. When you help a stranger, part of you hopes that in yoru time of need, someone will be there for you as well. That is what happens. People enter your life for reasons you are unaware of and yet, you also meet people for reasons that are unclear to you. My parents experienced what it was like to have the empty nest when my two sisters and I moved away. One sister lived in the same country as my parents but remains 5 horus away by car. Another sister is in the United States. I was in Australia. More recently, my husband and I moved back to Canada to be with with my parents temporarily because of a health situation. My mother in particular requires in-home care and my father needed assistance. We are adjusting other aspects of our lives because we feel this is the right thing to do. Living in the same house like this is not as common in Western countries. I have friends in Asia who have three or more generations living in the same dwelling. You learn to adjust to your circumstances and do what makes sense to you, regardless of what society suggests are your options.

Liara Covert´s last blog post..Hear the plea of your true self

Re: Getting To Know Me - II

You are always growing and changing. As a person speaks of any issue, it only becomes a controversy from the moment doubt, fear and axiety kick in. If a person desires to preserve a sense of well-being and integrity inside himself, then speaking and hearing his own truth is what he most hopes to hear. This is unrelated to what someone else may or may not do. Rather, our feelings invite us to acknowledge and work through the reasons that we create our underlying fears. Why fear the worst in someone? This mirrors back something about oursleves that merits further examination.

Liara Covert´s last blog post..Hear the plea of your true self

Re: Solution Before The Problem - II

People who donate money to these kinds of situations seldom know where the money actually goes. Human beings are reminded a person can learn from someone without aspiring to become him.

If you believe love and compassion are the answer, then you may realize anger and hatred are very profound teachers. Fighting anger with anger is no solution. Teaching hatred is not the solution either. Anti-war rallies send a different message than peace rallies. Look to Gandhi:)

Regardless of your life experience, negative emotions that bubble within you show you who you really are, why you fear, what matters to you, how you cope with adversity, ego and frustration. Some people believe everyone you encounter provokes reflections about your deepest self. Not everyone desires to accept this. To choose to learn from your own anger and to learn to understand it is key in the process of self- mastery.

Liara Covert´s last blog post..7 Reasons you distract yourself

Re: How People Get Together.

rummuser, my intention in writing these posts was not to portray a belief that marriage is a risk. That is not my view. Rather, I aim to demonostrate that sometimes having faith in oneself can seem risky in the beginning, because people nuruture fear. Many people hesitate to do things they have not done before because they permit their imagination to concoct worst case scenarios. Ego defines a focus grounded in emotion. Ego is not wrong, only unconscious. People have free will and can cling to a sense of illness, conflict, despair, idealism or something else. This is done in part because these perceptions have become internalized on levels that contribute to a sense of identity. As a person explores what creates their own sense of reality, then they will fuel the fire with parallel thoughts, feelings and perceptions until/ unless they shift to let go and focus elsewhere.

Liara Covert´s last blog post..13 Illusions to shake up your awareness

Re: Zardari’s Admission

Every angle of the media has a vested interest in what it broadcasts. The perception of each viewer is based on cultural, emotional, religious or other baggage unless a person has evolved to move beyod these mental obstacles created within limited physical space.

An intriguing juxtaposition is offered by the film, Slumdog Millionnaire. Media have portrayed that the government has offered "better" housing/ living conditions to poor people from that area. Apparently, some people do not desire to change their way of life. Similarly, some people do not choose to shift how and what they take in with their senses. This article has a way of evoking deep reaction or none.
The Dalai Lama askes us to remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
Many people fear silence, fear being judged, fear not doing or, not being right.
Lao Tzu encourages human beings to empty the mind of everything. How many minds rest at peace? Preoccupations rise and fall while the Self observes. Ideas grow and expand and then return to the source. Returning to the source is stillness, which is the way of nature. This is the origin of everything. People resist the nature of self-acceptance.

In silence, people can know themselves. In silence, they observe differently. A reacting mind is noisy, judgmental and disrtacted. In silence, people sense the right action. A noisy mind leads to distorted action. In silence, people suddenly understand and relate to others. Focus moves from the physical world to pure love. In silence, one hears all.

Liara Covert´s last blog post..8 Ways to rediscover supernormal perception

Re: India’s Neighbours.

Some people ask, when will humanity outgrow nationalism and the religious loyalties that have become interwoven? Jane Goodall is a renowned primatologist who spent time in the wild reconnecting to gorillas. You can find examples of human beings who relearn to connect with animals on energy levels that other people have forgotten or disregard. What comes naturally seems brave and courageous. Yet, beliefs are influenced by fear. As a person disregards and dissolves fear inner, knowing and interconnectedness return.

Liara Covert´s last blog post..What happens through grace?

Re: Meena Venkat - A Young Lady Lioness.

Meena inspires fearlessness in those who watch her. A Taoist often acts very simply or not at all. To overreact removes the power of the situation to help those involved to actually learn and make it past the transitional stages of the crisis.

Consider also Zen thinking. This uses paradox to teach. The riddle is often illogical or contradictory. Zen koans (riddles) work by creating a crisis of logic which literally breaks the mind out of one pattern and reorients it into a new direction.

Liara Covert´s last blog post..12 Things obstacles tell you

Re: The Lahore Attack

Thanks for your views, Conrad!
rummuser, every perspective has a place. If you choose to experience pain, then you also choose when you will dissolve that mental state. You will only let go of discomfort once you have gained the insight and experience you require from it. Happiness and love is all that exists. Some people recall French President Mitterand's lifestyle and the presence of his mistress and daughter at his funeral along with his official wife. What is acceptable behaviour in one culture is often judged and ridiculed in another. Any impulse to judge another is an invitation to explore reasons for anger or discomfort within the self. Beliefs and reactions are conditioned. Love is all there truly is. HUmn beings forget that temporarily. Human beings often assume they must earn it and then lose it, or spend much of their physical lives working to re-obtain it. Yet, every human being has unlimited freedom mcu like each human being has unlimited love. Nonetheless, many people spend time in this world creating circmstances that allow them to hide from their authentic selves and to deny the reality they know deep down is truly theirs. To recognize everything you think, feel and create is a choice, changes how you view responsibility, different inds of learning, evolving awareness and a multi-dimensional purpose for existing at this moment.
.-= Liara Covert´s last blog ..Facilitate a dying wish =-.

Re: An Utopia In The Making? Other human beings are conditioned to do everything in excess. People have reasons for each of their choices and overall lifestyle. Yet, not everyone is willing to open their senses and be aware of what they do, or why they think and feel as they do. When you are not conscious of reasons behind your behaviour, you are not in the mental place to be able to change deliberately and consciously in your best interest. Your view of what is good is limited by choice.

Re: Quitting Things and Flakiness: The #1 Productivity Anti-Hack

One may think that deepening self-growth involves learning the usefulness of saying "no." Then, when I became an adult myself, I realized this kind of general, widespread mindset is not as far-reaching as I thought. The idea of "real" or "normal" people is relative. Some people are apt to make categories and place themselves in them. Other people will resist categories or simply not fit into existing ones. Higher demand for materials like silicon will draw new attenion to environmental issues associated with mining. I agree with earlier postings that the initial prohibitive costs for some of these appealing alternatives to fossil fuels keep them out of reach. Being a Canadian living in Australia, I marvel at the comparisons that can be made in government tax incentives for converting to alternative energy. In Canada, the tax break for solar energy can be up to 25%. As for other countries, for example, check this out: http://www.thesolarguide.com/solar-energy-syste...

Re: Atonement (2007)

I've heard great things about this film but have yet to see it. What is your view on that?
The current U.S. financial situation could be perceived as a blessing in disguise. After all, if a normal citizen went around repeatedly paying credit card debts with more credit cards, that person would not be permitted to continue for too long. Credit would run out and banks would come after them. Not so with a givernmetn, apparently. Repercussions are huge and affect millions of people. Accountability is what is missing from this whole picture. Rather than assign blame and criticize who is or is not doing an effective job, it makes more sense to address the core issues that pertain to twisted values, self-interest, protectionism, military policy and a whole lot of dishonest government officials that the public has been accepting and turing a blind eye to for far too long.

Re: Healthy, Wealthy, and DEAD?: 5 Reasons Why Getting Up Early Might be Harmful

Ever heard the phrase, "sleep when you're dead?" Then, when I became an adult myself, I realized this kind of general, widespread mindset is not as far-reaching as I thought. The idea of "real" or "normal" people is relative. Some people are apt to make categories and place themselves in them. Other people will resist categories or simply not fit into existing ones. Who cares?

Re: The Growing Life is Dead (But Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Unsubscribe)

Impermanence is one of the few predictable things about this life. Each choice you make is another stage of your personal evolution. Its nice to hear you choose to spend time with your grandfather. He appreciates that.
