in Top 10 Sci-Fi Shows Canceled too Soon on Blackgeekdom
I find it hard to go along with how Star Trek borrowed from B5 when it seems to me that the opposite was true. Also, Crusades wasn't as bad as it seemed considering that it was a follow-up to one of the most popular Sci-Fi shows in history.

To me SAAB was the best show on this list, but Crudades would have been even better had it been given time to grow. It probably would have been more fair to have them as 1 and 1A. And Firefly probably shouldn't have been ranked as high as it was considering that they had 4 or 5 seasons plus a fairly successful movie to flesh out characters and stories.

He doesn't seem condescending to me. It's more of a "whatever" type of attitude. He's doing it just to be doing it.

in Dragonball Movie Poster on Blackgeekdom
It might not be bad. I am a fan of all the Dragonball stuff. And if you watch the series, it's not like they are drawn to fit a particular ethnicity all the time, if that's what you are alluding to.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but all DC has is the Justice League. At least Marvel has put themselves out there as far as animation goes, especially on the movie front. You can say that they have Batman and Superman stuff and Static Shock is on extended hiatus. Marvel seemed to be putting more stock in animated movies rather than television series, Dr. Strange, Ultimates, Ultimates 2, Iron Man, etc.

in Quick Review: The Happening, well, more of a Quick Rant on Blackgeekdom
I have liked all the films that he's done, and I actually thought The Happening wasn't a bad movie. I just think my expectations were a little higher than they should have been. And to me, B-Movies are for television and rentals. Writers should be confident, not cocky. That's what's wrong with George Lucas.

@you you: you should read the article again. No where is talked about how bad an actor the "new" Col. Tigh is or how great an actor the old one was. The problem is that they made more than one change which pretty much got rid of all the black male characters.

I think comments made recently by Spike Lee concerning the lack of african americans in Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers is valid on this point. Hundreds of blacks particpated in the battle for Iwo Jima but yet he failed to portray any of them in the movie. I think this goes to show that as Blackfanboy put it, black people didn't exist between 1870 and 1954. Spielberg also didn't include them in Saving Private Ryan.

It should bother us all that no one seems to want to acknowledge that the african american culture is basically ignored for the better part of the 20th century. And this has bleed over into Hollywood as well.

Hopefully, Obama understands that on two separate occasions, Worf was responsible for "influencing" the direction of the leadership of the Klingon Empire....through duels to the death.

Requests granted. I've finally added Riddick, Cleo from Firefly, and Hel from Cleopatra 2025. I struggled over adding Richard Daystrom, but he's a significant enough figure in the Star Trek universe to add him.

in Animated Black Panther coming to BET on Blackgeekdom
Here's my diatribe about BET:

Univision and Telemundo should have been the models for BET. Initially BET was MTV and then there was a time when it was like Univision and Telemundo (that was during Ed Gordon's prime, the height of Donnie Simpson's popularity, and when Teen Summit was a relevant TV show); BET has always seemed to want to be like MTV or VH1 type of Network. And frankly, those Networks show nonsense, gossip shows, terrible videos, and stereotypical programming, all the things that we complain about BET. This was made worse when Bob sold it to Viacom. They have even gone as far as having a Best Week Ever clone.

Also, Bob was about making money. I can remember the days of BET when Sunday morning was filled with Gospel, and after noon a switch when on and all you got was paid advertising programming. The same thing during the week would happen after Midnight Love would go off and you get those 30 minute commercials until 9AM the next morning. When you have a high profit margin and don't spend money on development, that's how you end up with crappy programming, cheap programming, and syndicated shows on the cheap. All of the talent, Ananda Lewis (let's just agree to disagree upfront about how talented she is), Ed Gordon, Tony Brown, James Brown (the sports commentator) etc. were gone because of money. The great syndicated shows cost more than BET was willing to pay.

Now, how can Black Panther be successful? If BET is only providing financial support and nothing else and Viacom keeps its dirty fingers out of it, and the production is basically shopped out, and if Hudlin personally oversees its production, it could work. Do i think it will. Probably not.

Is this a vanity project for Hudlin? I think so. President of Entertainment for BET since 2005...Has he tried to get the Bernie Mac show on BET? No. What about Everybody Hates Chis? No. How about getting Spawn the Animated series? Nope. What has he brought us? Hell Date. Iron Ring (a clone of on of Spike TV's shows). Black Poker Stars Invitational (even Bravo has left their Celebrity Poker Tournament on the shelf). College Hill (Real World clone). and Different Strokes, a show about a great white man who shows his benevolence by adopting poor black boys? And the worst of the worst black movies ever made. To Reggie, whatever.

in Animated Black Panther coming to BET on Blackgeekdom
I feel the same way. Every since Bob sold BET to Viacom, they have seemed to make it a place for the interns who couldn't get on at MTV or VH1. And it seems that they are following the model of those two networks, which kinda sucks, since it should be one or the other, if anything. I could go into a long diatribe about what I think the programming should be like on BET, but it wouldn't do anything since I gave up on BET a long time ago. I had the unfortunate chance of turning to BET when Hell Date was on, and haven't been back to that channel since.

in EW has a list of the 20 Worst Comic Films ever on Blackgeekdom
I agree with you about Fantastic Four and Daredevil; however, the thing with Daredevil is that the Director's Cut is much better than the theatrical release. I would have just listed Electra by itself Also, where's the craptastic versions of the Fantastic Four or the Dr. Strange movie. I know what they are trying to do with this list, but I think its a disservice to comic book fans and fanboys to just totally ignore the absoulutely horrendous garbage that's been released. Noticeably absent is Ang Lee's Hulk which fanboys have murdered.

I disagree with you on Dick Tracy. I think that's one of the best Comic book films ever made. The writing was good and it stayed true to the spirit of the book.

in Love It Or Hate It? - TWiT 134 on LOL: Life of Leo
Leo,

Great show. As far was Dave Winer goes, people are blinded by how they feel about him and was not listening to what he had to say. I thought it was fascinating to hear from the creator of RSS.

As far as OSC, I've read eight of his books, enjoyed all of them, and had no idea of his politics. But you're right, his politics is no reason to not read such excellent works of literature.

Finally, you wouldn't be where you are by catering to anyone other than yourself. We like you for you and your interests, and your entertainment value. There may be more socially conscious podcasts or more informative podcast about tech, but we listen to you for you. To paraphrase the immortal Ray Charles, just do what you do, baby.

in Post Writers Strike Show Updates on Blackgeekdom
Is it possible that television will suffer the down slide that baseball took after its strike. Is it possible that it will be a couple of years before people come back to some of these shows.

Personally, it sucks that Heroes may not return until next season. That could be the death knell for a show that had just started to build momentum after a slow start.

in Cloverfield ( Monster) Spoilers on Blackgeekdom
I was excited at first when i originally saw the first teaser trailer, but now, I am not so sure about how good this movie is going to be. I'm not saying this because of the pictures of the monster, its just that the whole "mystery" gimmick is a little dated and played out.
