Are you using a stand-alone site or a wordpress hosted site? Wordpress offers a host of plugins that may make it easier for you to get indexed.

Remember, search engines find your site based on links.

I would say the best and most honest way that I have been able to build traffic is by creating quality content and by joining conversations on similar topics. I also submit my posts to sites such as digg and reddit.

I spend probably 1-2 hours a day just reading marketing blogs and making comments. Not just any comments, insightful comments. I find thought leaders in the industry and then go after them. I recently posted a comment on an execs blog from Levorno, I'm one of the top posters on the Duct Tape Marketing blog, etc.

I also attached my blog url to all of my e-mail signatures.

Remember though, the key is to have great content, you want repeat visitors. If they come to your site once and then never return, then your traffic is meaningless.

Re: How I got Indexed in Search Engines in Under 24 Hours

That is a myth and I have not seen any evidence to support that. There really is no logical sense to this. People are supposed to learn from their mistakes, and so are companies and organization. I would have all of my failures framed and hung on the wall in my office, along with all of my successes to remind myself and everyone else at the company that success takes hard work, and failures happen along the way.

Jacob

Re: Making a Case Study Out of Nothing

Hi Abhilash,

I'm glad you enjoyed the post, thanks for reading and hope to see some more of your comments in the future.

Jacob

Re: Making a Case Study Out of Nothing

Interesting analogy there Mr. Google. I agree, I wouldn't necessarily make a case study about failure, a client facing document. I would use it as more of an internal learning tool.

Failures (especially when made public) can lead to successes, just ask Dell or Nintendo.

Re: Upcoming Social Media Event Schedule

Hi Michael,

Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to hearing from you down the road :)

Re: Social Media is Not a Marketing Tool; It Is a Way of Life

Thanks for the comment Jared. However, that stage would then have to come before the "People" stage.

Deciding what you want to accomplish is quite different then why you want to accomplish it. If my goal is to increase traffic to a particular blog by 50% and get get 300 people to click on an adsesne ad, well that's great. But why? Am I doing this to increase brand awareness? Do I just want to make a quick buck on the side?

The why and the how can easily be clumped together. My argument is that they should be 2 entirely separate entities because a different thought process is needed for each.

Thanks for reading, hope to see more of your comments in the future!

Re: Blogging Strategy Vs Social Media Strategy

Thanks for the comments Bob. There are a few analytics tools popping up all over the place. Truth of the matter is social media marketing is the hardest kind of marketing there is. It's about trying to build and maintain long term relationships. There is not shortcut for this and there is no cookie cutter approach for it either.

Thanks for reading Bob, I'm looking forward to reading more of your comments!

Re: Social Media is Not a Marketing Tool; It Is a Way of Life

Thanks Andy, so few people really understand this.

Re: My Review of the Groundswell!

Hi Des,

Yes I have an advance reader copy which Charlene and Josh were both kind enough to sign, maybe ebay? :) They really did do a good job with the book, hope you will enjoy it!

Re: My Review of the Groundswell!

Hi Lauren,

managing expectations is key, I actually just wrote a post about that the other day as well. http://www.jmorganmarketing.com/managing-expect...

It should never be a one click affair. I think it depends on how well you know your customers. It depends on how you underpromise and how you over deliver. It's about the extra added value you can provide. The detrimental factor can be that over time your customers will expect more and more over delivering. It's a balance game.

Re: My Review of the Groundswell!

Thank YOU for writing the book Charlene! Aside from the new comm forum and SXSW I would recommend:

Web 2.0 expo
www.web2expo.com

Search Marketing Salon (which I host)
www.searchmarketingsalon.com

There are a host of other smaller events as well, for example the social media breakfast events, or the local social media meetups. Join socialmedia.com. Also look out for blogger meetups in your area. Just recently attended a meet up with Gary Vaynerchuk which was a lot of fun, but not publicized. Connect with folks online through twitter and read popular social media blogs (alltop.com), they usually mention which events are going on where.

There are also a bunch of events overseas, but realistically you can't go to all of them! Check out http://upcoming.yahoo.com/group/2075/ they have a decent list of upcoming events, haven't been to many of these though. That is exactly correct. Most people get overwhelmed when they see there are 3 million sites showing up for a particular phrase. However once you dig down to find out how many "real" competitors you have, you realize that the competitive landscape is much smaller. Still tough, but definitely easier than going against 3 million.

Re: Panel Discussion at Web 2.0, Everyone Agrees?!

Hi Des,

You are quite correct. After the panel discussion I spoke with Jeremiah and told him that he should have almost made the panelists feel uncomfortable. I would have looked at all four of the panelists square in the eyes and said, "you're kidding right? you can't all be doing the exact same thing here."

There is nothing wrong with some friendly debate, I mean everyone has an opinion. Panelists should expect to engage in some sort of a debate, if they are that thin skinned that they get offended at the sign of confrontation then they either have no idea what they are talking about, or should not be sitting at the panel table with the big boys.

Knowing the rules of engagement is definitely a good idea, but I like to push the envelope :)

Re: Who are You Competing Against Online?

Hi Lorna,

That is absolutely correct, the allintitle: operator is another great way to narrow down the competition and is actually the operator that Dan Thies prefers to use as well:
http://www.highrankings.com/forum/index.php?sho...

Thanks for the comment :)

Re: Friday’s Food For the Soul

Thank you for the kind words John. Not only that, but you never know who at your company can become the accidental spokesperson.
@George
I think there is a fine line between using social media at work and not respecting the company. Using social media does not mean that the person just sits on twitter all day. Look at all the powerful use cases for social media: Dell, GM, H&R; Block, etc.

I do agree with you that quality work still needs to be maintained. If you can prove that someone's social media habits are causing productivity/quality to decline, then that is another issue.
@Ricardo
Interesting point. A company is only as good as the employees that work there. By giving the employees a chance to use social media and share their experiences/talk about their brand. You are giving them a channel that allows them to increase brand visibility/awareness/etc.
@Barry
Come now, surely you don't think social media is useless, it extends to more than just games. H&R; Block, Southwest Airlines, and Zappos are all using twitter with great results. If social media=scrabulous in your opinion, well then I suggest reading up on a few case studies.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Re: Is Your Company Trying To Regulate Social Media Usage?

@George
You are correct, I did say a lot of time and of course this is really broad. How much time would you allow an employee to spend a day using social media (if any)

It's important to keep in mind that even if you post around 100 messages on twitter while at work, that would only take a few minutes out of your day. If one of the readers of your tweets happens to inquire about your company and eventually becomes a client, is that not worth "a lot" of time on twitter?

I receive several inquires regarding my work from people who read my twitter, blog, linkedin, etc. If I were working full time for a company and were able to pass those leads off it would be well worth my time on social media, and most people I have spoken with agree.

Now don't get me wrong, I do agree with you that the employee should be getting his work done and should be using social media in good taste, meaning not bashing the company they work for. However the company should have just as much respect for the employee as the employee does for the company. That means not necessarily restricting an employees use of social media. All that is going to do is make the employee upset and angry and will that will lead to bigger problems.

There are a lot of companies out there that are beginning to realize how powerful social media can be in several aspects of a business, including lead gen, product development, marketing, etc. It's quite easy and effortless to have a twitter window open to throw up a few comments.

Thanks again for the comments George. But if you are able to get your work done and are able to spend some time on social media sites, then you should be allowed to do so.

In this case "a lot of time" doesn't seem to be a good metric and perhaps should have been omitted from the question.

Re: Yoho ZOHO a Business Life For Me!

Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoy the content!

Re: Dear Twitter, I don’t know if we should keep seeing each other

Haha perhaps one day Barry.

Thanks for reading!

Re: Dear Twitter, I don’t know if we should keep seeing each other

Thanks for the comment Diana, hope to hear more from you on future posts!

Re: Why Go Daddy Doesn’t Get It

Hi Michael,

Yep it's amazing isn't it? If a client already has a relationship with you they are invested in you, it is in their best interest to know what you are doing. That being said if you are an SEO agency that recently added PPC capabilities, your client on the SEO side would most certainly benefit from that information.

You don't need to beg, you need to converse. Think of it as though you are speaking with your client in a bar setting and you are just casually explaining your capabilities.

Here is a post I wrote a few months ago re: this issue
http://www.jmorganmarketing.com/dont-just-say-t...

@gophergirl
thanks for the comment. I think its also important to not get a reputation as "that person" that fires off business cards from a holster. I think it is going to take more than just a feature before a company can charge, companies are going to have provide an entire new service, something that really ads value. thanks for reading ash, i hope to see more of your comments in the future

Re: Friday’s Food for the Soul (Investing in Yourself)

hi Eric,

it's never easy but it is always necessary.

thanks for the comment and thanks for reading

Re: What Does “Viral Content” Mean?

hi Vinay,

You make some great points, thanks for sharing your point of view. Then I was still curious since the rather harsh/impolite comments came when mentioning an example from a previous position I once held. So I decided to cross check the C-classes for proximity against my old company website. It turns out that jed/barry are using GE-6-1-ur01.sffolsom.ca.sfba.comcast.net. My old company uses phoenix8-gw.deru.net and is located on Folsom street in San Francisco, but the interesting thing is that the ip addres then resolves to an ip address that is very very close by to the one that Barry/Jed is using.

So I'm thinking that Jed = Barry and that jed/barry is most likely someone from my old company...or this can all be just some big coincidence

either way thanks for reading, it's flattering :)

Re: What Does “Viral Content” Mean?

oh and a very special thank to Jose Nunez for his technical skills, I suppose having a phd pays off :)

Re: What Does “Viral Content” Mean?

hi jed,

i'm not too concerned. i have nothing against my old company nor do i have anything against you or barry. as far as i am concerned i value your readership (and barry's) either way. the more people i interact with the better, i like it all.

Re: Hire Someone That You Like, That is Not Like You! comment. twitter holds a different value for different people, for some it is having access to an instant focus group, for others it is a valuable news source, and still for others, it's a place to engage in a world wide conversation or follow their friends.

twitter has several options for a business model, charging for premium services, advertising, donations (the wikipedia way), monthly subscription, etc.

People use twitter differently, personally I have met many of my twitter followers in person, and I make an effort to meet as many as I can.

Linkedin and twitter are definitely different. linkedin is not a great instant communication tools, it's a bit like e-mail. linkedin is more geared toward building business relationships whereas twitter serves to satisfy the natural curiosity that people have towards one another. of course if you can find a way to spread your content to people that are willingly subscribed to you, well then great :)

thanks again for the kinds words and thanks for reading!

Jacob point of view if you already have millions of people using your platform then you can either think of a revenue model down the road (aka advertising) or can possibly get acquired. It is a bit "fashionable" to get acquired though, but unfortunately most of them just die off.

thanks for commenting

Re: Releasing a Tech Party Video During the Recession, Bad Idea or Who Cares?

@michael
I definitely see your point here. it's tough to take sides on this one because i dont think the folks who released the video intended for it to be take so harshly, they were just having a good time. however being sensitive to the overall startup situation is probably something that we should all consider.

thanks for reading and commenting

Re: Releasing a Tech Party Video During the Recession, Bad Idea or Who Cares?

@josh
you do make a good point re: inspiration. there are multiple ways to look at the release of the video and an inspirational instrument is not one that many discuss. hashtags are a way for users to create their own conversation threads, however there is no organization to them, you can have tons of hashtags for the same topic. also, you cannot engage in conversation simultaneously with several people.

hashtags are a good way to tag your content to track information, but as far as making a categorized organized structure it falls short. not only that, but as far as I know hashtags is a 3rd party site that does not belong to twitter. i want to see twitter doing something with our conversations.

thanks for When all goes well, it's easy... but what happens when things don't go well? what happens when you launch a social media campaign and are criticized and insulted by your customers, what do you do? SAY THANK YOU!

companies need to remember that feedback is feedback. If I launch a product and get a lot of feedback saying it sucks, well then I know that I need to improve my product. If I launch a social media strategy and users tell me that I should have done X instead of Y, well then I know what I need to fix. Negative feedback is not BAD feedback, it's a way to get FREE information on how to improve or change to meet customer needs. If everyone is complaining and offering negative feedback, well then that should tell you or your company something about your product/service. In my opinion "negative" and positive feedback are both good. You have action items, key takeaways, and valuable information that you get from both, and that's what counts.

now as far as the people that just like to go to company sites to leave comments like "you suck I hate you...." well, that's a different story :)

thanks again Tom

Re: A plea for traditional media

hey tom,

just wanted to give you a big thank you for linking to my post and sharing it with your readers!

you do make a few valid points, traditional media is still effective up to a certain point but it's not as targeted as social media, that being said it may be a good idea to start with a broad audience and then narrow down.

thanks again for linking!

Re: 2008/04/09/web20expo-ticket-raffle/

Want to meet everyone and anyone I can. For example, let's say you are submitting a large report to a client that summarizes the months statistics. At the end of the report do you just say thank you? Or do you let the client know about some of your other services and product offerings?

Maybe at the end of your report you can say, by the way, in addition to the web design services that we are currently doing for you, we can also create custom print advertisements. That to me, sounds much better than, "thank you."

Re: 34 Online Reputation Management Tools

Hi John,

Great list. You can use the "intitle" "inanchor" search commands together to get a really good idea of how many sites are really gunning for a particular term. Usually when you type in a search query you can some large amount (e.g. 19,000,000) using the intitle or inanchor helps weed out some of the accidental competitors to get a much better idea of the competitive landscape.

Great post John

Re: Build your you hub

Hi John,

Great advice for folks out there. I mean it's great that I have almost 800 followers but there's just no way for me to keep up with the "stream" if I follow all of them. I do respond to every @ and dm that I get and every once in a while I mix up the group of people that I am following. thanks for the comment

@Maria

thank you for the kind words, im glad you enjoyed it. i consider broadcasting synonymous with traditional media and conversations synonymous with social media. when people start treating social media like traditional media- you are correct- it kills! thanks for the comment

@Dominick

I would suggest adding a little more than just a thank you. It's great that you are receiving all these comments and I know it's tough to respond to all of them, but if there is another little tidbit or piece of value you can add while responding to comments, then you should add it.
To encourage guest posts, just ask. write a post on your blog offering the guest post opportunity, tell people about it on twitter. etc. Even if you get one (which is what I started with) go for it, eventually you will get two, then 4. In fact, since you're running promotions, why not create a contest around guest posts on your blog? You'd be surprised how much people want to share...just ask :)

Re: Guest Post- How to Keep Your Conversations From Turning Into Broadcasts

uhoh, Kim = troublemaker, look Kim, I told you I don't have your money ok?

thanks for commenting kim and glad you have such a positive impression of me, means a lot! thanks for stopping by :)

Re: Guest Post- How to Keep Your Conversations From Turning Into Broadcasts

FYI The twitter link above points to @Jacob which is incorrect, if you want to follow me on twitter it's @JacobM, Chris will fix this shortly :)

my twitter:
http://www.twitter.com/jacobm

Re: Guest Post- How to Keep Your Conversations From Turning Into Broadcasts

@Brett

ya it can be difficult but let's be honest, in order for social media to work you have to spend the time and effort it takes to interact and talk with everyone. You really need to work hard, you can;t just create a twitter account or a facebook profile and expect that everyone is going to flock to you. you MUST provide value and YOU must interact with everyone that is willing to interact with you. some people arent willing to put in the time, and they fail.

@Laura

oh absolutely, I mean I can tell you who the top commenters are on my blog and I can tell you what they do. I have visited their sites, left them feedback and have always encouraged more interaction. I just spent 15 mins thanking all my new twitter followers and I am going to spend however long it takes to respond to all these comments and hopefully i will get to know you too. Knowing my audience also benefits the audience because in my line of work i come across people who are looking for different things all the time, i just recommended a designer to a new company because i knew the designer. if i dont know the audience i cant interact with them and i can help promote them.

@Elizabeth

ya the broadcast world is easy to get lost in. social media and in fact conversations in general can be overwhelming, it's a good thing I like to talk a lot :)

@Ed

Yep, you can;t build a tribe if you don't know who you're tribe is. Of course there are always going to be some people who dont interact or who remain on the sidelines and that's fine. However there are always going to be people who have something to say, and you have to get to know them!

@Rebecca

great point. acting as a fascilitor and "connector" is also key. I just introduced one of twitter followers "a designer" to another twitter follower "who runs a company." I made the introduction and now they are off chatting about working together. The indirect conversation is also very important. As I have been monitoring the feedback on this post I have noticed a lot of the conversation spread, which is fantastic! great point rebecca!

@Dawn

yes the little things to mean quite a lot. the big things are easy to take care of but in order for social media to really work in your favor you have to look at the little things as well.

@Rob

I agree with you and I wish schools taught the importance of online brand building and creating a presence. instead educators scoff at platforms like twitter and many even condemn their use saying it's a waste of time. I would love to see a social media program in schools!

@Ezra

Good points, essentially your social media platforms, your posts, tweets, etc, starts out as broadcasts BUT they turn into conversations as people begin to respond to you. neglecting these conversations is not a smart thing to do. A broadcast does reach a large audience but is also easily ignored. think of television, car flyers, spam advertising. it takes 1 second for me to switch channels or hit the back button. blogs do facilitate conversation indeed but if YOU as the creator of the work are unaware of these conversations then that is a big oversight. that is why it is important to foster/create/grow conversations/communities whenever possible.
thanks for the kind words!

@Mari

the relationship is where it's at. It's funny because when we take them for granted. for example companies think of ways to squeeze money out of social media, well what if nobody ever talked about their brand or product? all of a sudden the perspective changes and it becomes "how can we get our users to talk to us" instead of "how can we make money from our users."

@Sarah

I agree, the whole "celebrity" issues is far too overrated. there are plenty of contacts I have that I would pick over the "marketing or twitter celebs" any day. by building a relationship you are selling yourself and selling yourself is more important then selling any type of product

@Karen

good point, the first things that comes to mind are the people that have their business cards flying at you out of a holster, i hate those guys. you might as well walk around with a megaphone!!

@Internet marketing for attorneys

oh absolutely. it is a lot of hard work and people don't realize it. i mean i just responded to every single comment i received on here right? now you can also run through a self filtering process, whereby you encourage people who post stuff like "great post thanks" to dive deeper into what it is they liked about it. this is the best source of data/information/feedback you can get and to neglect it is probably not the best idea. if you are receiving dozens of comments it will only take you an hour or so to respond. sure attorneys are busy, but then again so are the people who are commenting on your blog, and if they have taken the time to comment on your blog then you should reciprocate by commenting back to them.

@jbrotherlove

it will never work without the conversations, we're not build that way. humans desire contact/interaction/feedback. if we didn't care about this stuff then we would still be creating static sites in web 1.0

@Toma

you're very welcome. it's all about respect. you can't expect to succeed if you don't show respect, you are dealing with people not with dollar signs.

@Ari

hey great to see you on here as well :) that is a good point that you made. great idea for dj's and radio stations...anyone know any disk jokeys?

@Dali

thank you the kind words. i;m all about promoting people (and the content they write) when there is value in it. I'm more interested in connecting people together though and forming business relationships as that is usually more meaningful (for most people). For me, the best way to promote myself is to build relationships and to pump out valuable content.

@Dianne

you are very welcome. as a coach you are in a very powerful position to build relationships and connections. you are also on the forefront of helping educate businesses and individuals on social media. coaches are usually very relationship oriented people so social media provides a new unique outlet for them to connect.

PHEW!!!! When the anchor text of a link is related to the relevant terms within the content of a page, links act as "connectors" of such relevancy. With that said, relevancy for a query starts "on-page" and gets confirmed by "off-page" factors. Even though Google is more of an "off-page" search engine, you just can't solely rely on links. Over optimizing this area can lead to trouble, so there has to be a balance. In addition, you need variations in regards to anchor
text terms for phrases you want to rank.

Final notes:

1) be cautious
with Pagerank. In terms of a metric for importance or even worse, relevancy. Treat it as a gauge of a page's popularity, with good and bad links coming in.

2) focus on internal linking of your SEO
target pages as a step to maximize the value of your incoming links.

The VALUE of the links is crucial too many people are concerned with quantity. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Jacob

Re: The Vital Importance of Links

problem is most people don't know how to calculate relevancy or value (need metrics and search engine data). the team i run doesn't rely on any of the free or public tools out there. that's why i work with the best damn technical seos on the planet :)

J

Re: Guest Post- Bears Buffalo and Broadband

i think this is a great example of the power of the internet and social media. i am so happy that you have experienced such success and i hope you guys keep rocking out in yellowstone. i have never been but you can bet i will be contacting you when i visit :)

i love that you used the resources available to you to learn and educate yourselves about the different tools and possibilities out there. social media is a never ending learning medium and it seems like you have certainly come a long long way.

you have every right to be giddy, i would be too!

congratulations!

Jacob

Re: Search is Part of Social

if folks want to learn about technical seo they can always visit our company site at http://www.hirank.com :)

i think social media strategy should start from seo, but ill have more on that in a post later.

Jacob

Re: 8 Marketing Bloggers to Watch in 2009

congrats to everyone on the list, jason thanks for mentioned my blog on there as well, much appreciated :)

Re: Differentiating Between Blogger Relations and Sponsored Content

hey chris,

im actually curious to hear your take on a post that david churbuck (vp web marketing at lenovo) put up around 2 months ago http://www.churbuck.com/wordpress/?p=2358

"If bloggers want to be accorded the same respect and gravitas of a professional journalist/writer then they need to abide by the same code of ethics. Just visit socialmedia.alltop.com and oftentimes you will see very similar headlines/posts covering the same topic. Of course not everyone that reads mashable knows about techcrunch and not everyone that reads techcrunch knows about rrw. So, of course, each individual source needs to find a way to provide quality relevant information to it's respective readers. Perhaps linking to an existing article and then adding on a bit of personal flare may not be a bad idea.

As more and more blogs and news resources emerge the amount of redundancy will increase. Alltop recently added in a litle 'X' button so that you can remove some of your rss feeds.

Compare the redundancy of information to the redundancy of advertisement. As more social media verticals emerge advertising will increase and increase. Perhaps eventually, advertising will begin to show less and less roi and companies 9web 2.0) will eventually be forced to change business models. Similarly, once more and more resources begin covering the same things, traffic will eventually drop and they will have to think of new ways to bring in visitors.

But I digress...

Re: Reader Poll: 35 Online Marketing Tactics for 2008

Hi Lee,

I think the important question for 2008 is not so much what tactics you are going to use but who you are going to go after. Consumers are already out there having conversations about specific brands, those conversations might as well be with the brands themselves.

People love to talk, especially when they know that someone is actually listening.

Jacob
www.jmorganmarketing.com

Re: WordPress.com and SEO Blogs – Love or Hate?

I think this just goes to show that some people really don't understand what SEO is. The keywords may be relevant but trying to target everything under the sun is just not an effective strategy in my opinion. Sure you can get traffic but that is useless without conversions.

I think people misconstrue SEO as a rankings tool, when in fact it is a marketing tool. Title tags should have a call to action, marketing message, and relevant keywords. So what if you can't squeeze every keyword in there.

The title tag of a page is like the title of book chapter. The only thing you accomplish by stuffing keywords in your title tag is SEO spam, and we all know what happens with spam.

Jacob

Re: 5 Lesser Known Google Analytics Features

I have been using all of the tools mentioned above and I am really getting some added value from GA. As social media platforms continue to expand into other verticals marketers are going to be left with 2 choices.

-target as many people in as many platforms as you can
-focus on the niche platforms

Either way there is not going to be a way to stop the continuous influx of spam. This, I think, is the real problem. But of course, this is another topic :)

Re: 5 Tips on Social Media Advertising

Hi Dana,

I think it's important to note that marketing and advertising through social media should not be the end result goal of any company. Social media's primary focus is to build quality relationships with people. The reason that Squidoo can show ads on their lenses is because the revenue gets split with the users.

Does facebook give me money when I see one of their ads? No, and neither do many of the other companies. Look at myspace, that company has become a virtual spam haven because people keep recommending myspace as an advertising tool. Advertising on Social media platforms is not the right attitude to have in my opinion. If you are brand looking to engage in social media simply to shovel ads at people then please do us all a favor and don't even bother joining.

Re: Direct Marketing vs Social Media Marketing

Hi Lee,

Direct marketing is a way to reach a select group of people to convey a certain message (of course many view it as spam, which is a problem). I think the key differentiator between direct and social, is that social media marketing is (or should be) based on relationships that you are building with your consumers. It's about getting to know and really understand your users. That being said I don't think the two need to be at odds with each other.

What if you built a social media constituency and then used your relationships to direct market to them? Of course it's not that simple, you would have to direct market in a way that doesn't seem spammy.

What if you used direct marketing to inform or build your social media marketing constituency? Send out direct marketing information letting your users know about the new social media group that they might be interested in.

ROI for social media is a bit trickier to measure, but as I mentioned during the dinner we had: think of all of the friends in your life, how much would you pay to keep them in your life? That is how we should be thinking about social media. Not about how much we can get but about how much we can give.

Direct marketing and social media marketing are only 2 aspects of marketing, what about SEO, what about PPC, what about PR? For a marketing strategy to be truly effective.
I would be curious to see an overall marketing strategy or case study, of a company that shows how it integrates all of these things into a complete overall marketing strategy.

great post Lee,

Jacob

Re: Site Re-Design? Not sure I agree with Guy on charing people for Twtitter. I think you will find quite a decrease in usage if you do, especially since we are all used to using twitter for free. If twitter began charging, another service would spring up (jaiku, etc.) that would offer the same product for free. That's like telling google to start charging for gtalk.

If we are moving to the free economy then charging then why charge. The problem I think twitter had from the get go is that they didn't think about their business model. I'm not sure anyone envisioned it become so successful (thus far). But to start charging now, in hopes of increasing adoption and usage is quite frankly not a good idea in my opinion. Especially since so many people are not yet familiar with twitter.

What do you think Lee?

Re: Dell Social Media Interview with Richard Binhammer

absolutely great interview Lee and Richard.
