No one is telling Meyers or anyone else how to live or not to do the things they enjoy. He doesn't have the right to endanger other people's health for his enjoyment, though.

Lots of adults and children suffer the consequences from smokers' enjoyable habit. At least most Iowa workers will no longer have to deal with secondhand smoke at work.

For an incumbent, King's war chest is less than intimidating (as of the last filing, it's about $250,000). It wouldn't take a huge amount of fundraising for Hubler to become competitive.

This is very welcome news and will help put the IA-05 race on the map. Big upsets happen in big landslide years.

I am not defending Edwards here, and I agree that he should not have run for president under the circumstances:

That said, it's a bit much for high-profile Clinton supporters to say extramarital affairs should be disqualifying for politicians. The fact that Bill Clinton got away with it and managed to be elected twice is probably what gave Edwards unreasonable hope.

Scott Brennan told me Meyers did not give him the petitions, and, having read Meyers' press release, "I have no idea what that refers to."
