in Twitter: The first draft of history? on Mathew's comments
Followed your interview over from Broadcasting Brain. Just this week it seems my eyes are being opened to real applications of Twitter. I see so many A lister bloggers and bloggers higher in the blog food chain writing on Twitter, but haven't gained anything of value from their posts, until now. I can really see how a journalist could use Twitter to an extraordinary advantage- even your post title makes it very clearly. Now the scales have fallen from my eyes and I can see what I thought was a droll little tool (I do use it for blog updating) could be so very useful.

in Comment Spam Warning Signs on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
I read through all the comments and a lot of it was more on the technical end. On my blogs I use Askimet and I use moderation. Both are do follow too- so I can appreciate being vigilant about spam. My husband I have a business blog that gets a crazy amount of spam- I am not sure if it's for the PR 4 link or the
fact that it says do follow or maybe it's no particular reason at all.

However on the site I run by myself- I tend to let comments in that are kind of in the first three bullets you posted
"Short comments
Off topic comments
Comments that don't add something very specific to the conversation"

Why do I allow these, because I believe that some people aren't spammers and are possibly shy or want to just point out the fact that they are a reader. I think it's a little harsh to block someone who just says "great post." Maybe they are intimidated by what the blogger wrote- especially in tech fields, but they want to be seen and that's ok with me. I think if they get black listed and see that their comment never shows up- you might lose a reader. I certainly don't want to lose my shy readers. JMHO-

in Aha Hmm Mumble Shhh on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
I had signed up for twitter some time ago- installed that twitter widget for wordpress and the promptly forgot about it. Then when I saw the news story about a blogger getting released from jail by using Twitter to notify his friends and family, it got me to thinking perhaps Twitter has some use in the world. SO I have been using it a little bit more in the past week- but I still find it kind of droll.

in Life Insurance on Gothic Peach
It's stupid advertising actually, the real reason parent's like myself included insure our children isso that we can pay for a funeral without harassment from the funeral home who wants a payment up front and to be able to buy what we want without feeling guilty for not being able to afford a proper memorial for a child. These policies generally pay out 10 to 12k and that just so happens to be the cost of a funeral. Thinking about a child dying is awful- so I suspect the insurance companies thought it be best to not advertise children's life insurance like this... "Buy life insurance now in case your beloved child dies and you need $10k for a decent looking funeral- Momma." -Michelle
