in Come visit the HP Garage on Scobleizer
This is an excellent treat! I'll probably never get to visit the inside of the garage, but now I feel like I have. It's inspiring to know how small they started. I'd love to see that business plan that Anne Mancini mentioned because I'm typing this in 2007 on an HP computer. I noticed that they haven't changed their logo. When I saw their old logo in your video, I looked down to check. It's the same stylized two letters, yet it still looks modern.

Thanks, Robert.

in Bridging The Digital Divide Needs The Mobile Web on StayGoLinks
I'm glad you posted this. We tend to think of the mobile web as a toy for affluent teens and forget about its potential to educate and help the poor.

Barry--I'm new to blogging, so tag me anytime! I don't have much (oops! ANY) traffic, so I'll gladly carry the water bucket for you.

About reading magazines, I've cut way back. I have a SideKick that I take with me to read blogs when I'm out and about, but the fonts are rather small. I can read the material with my glasses on, but it's still a bit of a struggle. Also, if I'm sitting outside, that creates another problem cause the sun fades the visibility of the text. But I love having text on the go. I'm a big fan of the mobile web, but people, let's get it moving. I need more reading material that's designed for mobile devices.

in A Turbulent River - the Mobile Web on StayGoLinks
Hi Barry. I just started looking around to find info on how to design for the mobi domain. Here is a site I came across. Looks like a good place to start. Let me know of others if you can. They have a program that will test your site to see how it scores for mobile use. My regular sites didn't pass.

in Practicality versus Purity - Alternation versus Adaptation on StayGoLinks
Barry--After reading your post, I purchased two .mobi domains.

I tried Yahoo first, but they don’t support the mobi extension, so I went with Go Daddy. Their sign up process is awful; screen after screen of clutter trying to sell add-ons. Annoying, disgusting, abusive marketing! Gave some serious thought to ditching before making the purchase, but the names were too good to walk away from. Wish I could have gone with Yahoo.

I’m convinced that the mobile market is different and deserves sites built specifically for it. I followed the link you provided to the article by Dr. Rotan Hanrahan, but decided that my teenager and her friends are better indicators of the future. Miniaturizing my current .com sites, even with perfect W3C code, wouldn’t work because they’re picture sites.

Now, my goal is to come up with a whole new vision designed for my same visitors, but something that meets their needs when they’re on the go. I wish more people would do this…create material specifically for the mobile market.

I really want more reading material for my SideKick.

in Mobile Web - It’s A Completely New Ball Game on StayGoLinks
Barry, great article...timely, too. What should we all be doing to ride this trend? Is there a service that searches for 'mobile friendly' sites and weeds out the sites that don't work well on small screens?

in Happy Christmas Greetings To All Our Readers on StayGoLinks
And happy New Year to you, Barry. What a lovely picture! I know it's Canada, but where in Canada? I ask because we Americans are always accused of knowing so little about Canada...and rightly so. If this is the view from your backyard, please lie.

Many blessings,
Christina Niven
