we love, love, love our tivo but are trying to cut back on expenses and since the kiddo isn't s'posed to watch tv until age 2, we are experimenting by cutting the cable cord this month. no cable, no need for tivo. (if we can't handle it after a year, i figure we can try fios out w/ an intro special.) but outside of Lost, i never have time to watch any tv anyway...

you may be annoyed by the portrayal of the korean boy in Arrested Development... nobody is likable in Weeds and i can't speak to the rest of the list. i'm w/ you on the original The Office. have you seen Extras? The Wire is awesome...

Comments on the songs w/ videos:
Into Temptation: Gorgeous in a tormented way. After 'we can go sailing in --' you think the sun might come out, but -- it doesn't.
When You Come: I agree it gets better when the intensity grows and the melody changes (when he goes up on 'thunderclap' line).
Better Be Home Soon: Love this song. Earnest yet heartbreaking. Perfect ending.

My 2 cents on the ones you posted videos for:
Chocolate Cake: This is one of those songs that I didn't care for that much when it came out, but I never skip it when I'm listening to it on CD. 'The excess fat on your American bones will cushion the impact as you sink like a stone'--ouch! (And I like how he doesn't repeat the Tammy Baker line in full the second time.)
It's Only Natural: Brilliant. Amazing harmonies, when I sing along I can't pick one to follow cuz they're both equally important. Have to agree the video is silly!
Weather with You: Great lyrics and again great harmonies.
Four Seasons in One Day: Haunting. Love that moment when the bridge begins.
Thanks for showing the videos!

i am happily in my second day of listening to the album--it's such a pleasure to have a new one to sink your teeth into. altho i agree, i'm a fan of neil finn solo as well, but without brother tim it's not quite crowded house...

i love, love, love some radiohead songs and absolutely cannot stand others. i get agitated and whiny and ask my husband to skip them. after giving a bunch a 1-star (only to differentiate between those i rated and those i hadn't yet with no star), i finally deleted them from my itunes!

i went to a demo at the apple store in soho and despite the super-annoying demonstrater, was impressed with some of the new tricks. in indesign, for example, when you want to place an object, you can load your cursor w/ like 4 at once and dump each where you want. but i'm still learning cs2!

glad you're already on your way to eating through the country--isn't it funny how they sell beer in vending machines ... years ago i ate at a yakisoba counter where you place your order by pushing buttons and putting your money into a machine, then give the ticket to the guy and they make your yakisoba in front of you. yum.... my husband tried some shrimpy creation at McD's. he said it was alright. our friends recommended Mos Burger, a local chain (they also have rice burgers, where there's rice instead of buns). get two, they're small. ;) ... speaking of customer service, have you ridden in a department store elevator yet? the elevator ladies are insane. and you never really have to say thank you to people serving you--the japanese version of 'the customer is always right' is translated closer to something like 'the customer is god.' ;)

well, if you have your two-prong number (that you probly connect to the grounded plug here), you should be ok. i seem to remember that grounded 3-prong ones aren't everywhere, but then again, we did spend some time in the boonies...

in Japan Trip: Next Week Thursday on Webomatica
jase, on our trip to japan last spring we found that in major cities like osaka it was actually surprisingly difficult to find free wifi. we went to the apple store in osaka and they actually asked my husband to stop using his laptop he brought there (he had to send an important file). so he went outside the front door and used it out of sight. ;) there were plenty of internet cafes but they usually required some type of membership. some of my relatives had broadband at home. hopefully your hotels will have at least a wired connection to tap into. it seems most folks our age use email on their cell phones; wifi didn't seem as popular.

Funny post. We have a mixed household: I use a PC at work, but have a Mac at home… and two cats. The cats now belong to my husband, too, who has a PC. No dogs.

in Book Notes: David Sedaris, Me Talk Pretty One Day on Webomatica
Someone gave me 'Naked' earlier and I decided Sedaris was pretty kooky. But a friend recommended reading 'Me Talk Pretty One Day' before/when I went to Paris for several weeks last year and I'm so glad I did--especially since I probably sounded just as bad in my French language classes. I would read some parts aloud to my husband and we would die laughing. Hope you enjoyed the rest of it.
Netflix for good old fashioned DVDs. I think Lost streams for free on
ABC.com proper - that'd be worth checking out. Oh and I suppose it's still
on good old fashioned broadcast via the rabbit ears? Funny how I totally
forget about that option at times.
