OK ... I'll jump in.

I'll shamelessly plug a post from a couple of days back regarding a survey taken regarding what people think of Jesus. Interesting results. The survey was taken in Australia but I'm sure it has value for everyone.

in Christians & Alcohol – My Thoughts on Caffeinated Thoughts
I'll drink to that. Ah ... maybe the wrong thing to say.

My dad drank heavily as I was growing up. He was not a falling down drunk but he did like his beer.

I chose not to drink and it's only in the past several years, from my mid 30s to now my mid 40s, that I've started having an occasional drink. I've never been drunk in my life and don't intend to be. I enjoy a good glass of red or the occasional beer.

Your post is very balanced and pretty much sums up my attitude to alcohol. Thanks.

Your blog is titled Caffeinated Thoughts. So just how much coffee do you drink? How do you take your coffee? What's your favourite coffee shop?

Shane Vander Hart's picture
Shane Vander Hart I didn't actually have any coffee today (oops - yesterday - past midnight now). Normally I drink close to a pot of coffee. I'll drink it black, but I like creamers and Splenda as well.

Favorite coffee shop? I usually just get brewed coffee - one of my favorites is local - Cafe Hollander in Altoona, IA. I like Starbucks and Caribou Coffee as well.

in Climate changes in blogosphere on But A Poor Reflection
It's not been too bad here in Perth, Western Australia. We've had some fairly hot days and have been very glad to have air conditioning but it's been nothing compared to the heatwave on the other side of the country.

There are huge bushfires raging across states in Australia's east. Over a hundred people have been confirmed dead and others are missing.

I'm not sure if it's about climate change or just the natural cycle of weather conditions but I do think we need to take better care of our planet.

in How Much Do You Have to Hate… on Caffeinated Thoughts
I saw the video yesterday and it was the same line that struck me. "How much do you have to hate somebody not to proselytize?" Powerful stuff.

in Drinking Age at 21 Causes Binge Drinking on Caffeinated Thoughts
I think that young people will drink no matter what the drinking age but leaving it at 21 might save some from poor choices earlier on.

Here in Australia the legal drinking age is 18 and there are those who would like to see it raised to 21.

Young people can get their drivers license at 17. It'd be great to see a bigger gap between the two events.

in The Ongoing Redefinition of Wealth on TheGeoffRe(y)port
I totally agree with you. I was amazed to hear people saying that the cut off should be $200 000 or even $250 000.

I think $150 000 is a very comfortable living. In fact, if we were able to have a household income of even a third of that, we'd consider ourselves financially well off.

Even though we're a low income family, we know we're rich. Just last month I was meeting the poor of Haiti.

Over there the people are literally eating dirt to try to get some kind of nutrition.

With today being Compassion Day we decided to make our already small budget stretch even further so we can teach our children what's really important. We're giving one Haitian child a chance at life through Compassion Child Sponsorship. There's nothing like reaching out to others to get a better perspective on our own circumstances.

We're so blessed to be living in Australia.

Thanks Penguin.

I've had a long involvement with Bike for Bibles.

I've crossed Australia by bicycle five times as well as riding in Canada once and India twice, all with Bike for Bibles. I've also done quite a number of rides within Western Australia. I was the WA Bike for Bibles Coordinator for five years before getting back into radio.

Have you had Bike for Bibles involvement?

I loved the movie. It's no surprose that it won the prestigious People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival.

I had the great honour of interviewing Eduardo on my radio show about the movie and the process of putting it together.

in Australia Says Sorry: “This is history, unna?” (by Jarrod McKenna) on God's Politics
Thanks for that wonderful insight, Jarrod.

Sorry will never heal all the hurt that has been done but it is a wonderful way to start.

I sat in front of my television silently weeping as the Australian Parliament took this historic step.
