Wow. hadn't heard about this one. I think the city and especially the Target Center were wise not to allow this. The Paulers are a motivated bunch to begin with and to steer that motivation towards something like revenge seems less than prudent. IMO

I can agree with energy development. For King to say he's a fiscal conservative and then advocate our huge military is just ridiculous. This country has FINANCIAL problems. BTW- if you people out there think any media outlet is unbiased then you are naive children. This place allows comments. I won't vote for McCain but on the farm bills he is absolutely correct. And did the govt. subsidize cars and light bulbs to make them commercially viable? What an ignorant statement. Why does big business get the majority of benefits from the bill and why is there always so much other crap in these bills that have nothing to do with farming? the only good thing about Harkin lately is that he voted against FISA. Can't say that about Grassley.

This guy is bragging about being in on this latest farm bill? I'm sorry Iowa farmers but the farm bill is bloated, fiscal recklessness at this point in time. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of McCain.

Smaller private power production could result in many turbines being built locally in various states, whereas one large subsidised corp. would probably buy a bulk lot from China. (IMO once again)

Leverage a buy-in from congress? This idea is great and long overdue but the idea that Pickens and his billionaire buddies need what is basically a govt. subsidy is rather suspect. I see a lot of money hopping around the stock market at this time, from financials to commodities,back to financials ,etc. IMO, I see a lot of people out there desperate to find an investment for the long haul. A healthy tax break should be all the intervention congress needs to make. Any other subsidy will only serve the insiders and stifle healthy competition.

Randall If I'm the steve you're referring to, I think you misunderstand what I was saying. I was basically crying about fiscal irresponsibility being a greater threat than dudes kissing in public. Much greater.

The republicrats aren't offering much this time around so I am seriously considering the third party vote. The "lesser of two evils" crap is getting old.

This may make for a more interesting school board election than the usual "ho-hum" stuff. Voter apathy on school board elections is probably the problem and not any lack of funding, I would imagine.

Maybe Leach believes blowing money we don't have "in the U.S.-infrastructure,etc." is better than blowing money we don't have "outside the U.S.-rest of empire". I can agree with this sentiment, however, Obama's recent shift in military philosophy seems to indicate there will be no meaningful reduction in worldwide troop deployment.. Since the "entitlements" are definitely not going to be reduced and you can't cut interest payments on the national debt, the only meaningful reduction is the military(and in a BIG way-ala Ron Paul). Both parties want "guns and butter" and it didn't work in the 60's and it's obvious it won't work today. Have a nice day :)

States rights? What a novel concept. I can remember a recent presidential candidate expressing these sentiments and it didn't seem to go over so well in Iowa. I guess these ideas are just naive and quaint until they affect someone directly. BTW- how long has the Iowa Independent been around because I'm from Davenpit and I've never heard of it. Of course I don't get around much.

This republican doesn't give a damn about an issue(or lack thereof) like DOMA. We are faced with real problems like credit deflation and military misadventures. How about a half TRILLION deficit added to 9 TRILLION national debt. But if we keep the gays in the closet then everything will be alright.

I don't think the socialists realize the victory they achieved when Vilsack was elected. Maybe they have more to cheer about than they think.
