Great feature. They could improve it by showing actual images (when selecting jpg, png, etc) instead of just file names.

Very sad news but it happens everyday. Too many people are going to suffer for the rest of their lives and the news never reports on that.

in Contest: LogoBids Offers $100 For Best Wal-Mart Logo on How To Split An Atom
Walmart should of sanctioned this contest. It would of been fun and brought a lot of positive press (they need it). The winner gets $100 and a million dollars worth of free press.

in How Wrong is Fox News? on Menstrual Poetry
Most people don't watch cable news for news. They watch it for entertainment. I don't believe anything I hear on Foxnews, CNN, or MSNBC. I watch them the same way I watch the comedy channel.

lol, I take it that you disagree with China's decision. Come on, China is doing some pretty bad crap in the world and this is such a small issue. I've seen more press on this little girl getting pushed to the back then I have on China buying oil from Darfur, helping to fund the genocide while we (Americans) watch people get slaughtered.

in 10 Firefox Plugins For Networking Addicts on How To Split An Atom
Thanks for the helpful tools. I'd like to add a couple to your list:

TinyURL - does same thing as Bit.ly Creator
Firebug - Awesome tool for web developers. Let's you point at the browser and see the code.
SEO Quake - Shows SEO data in toolbar for present site and search results
SearchStatus - Shows SEO data

Greg Hollingsworth I use search status, although with Page Rank figuring less into Google's algorithm it's not as useful as it once was. I used to have SEO Quake, but to be honest got annoyed by the overwhelming amount of information, most of which I didn't use. I'm sure it's great for someone who's a little heavier into SEO than I am.

I realized that TinyURL had a plugin not long after I finished writing this, I use bit.ly, but TinyURL is just as good.

Firebug is great, especially for developers. I, however am not a developer, although I did turn our lead designer onto both firebug and Y-Slow.

in Internet Bootcamp on How To Split An Atom
What a great idea. I own a few websites and came here from Google reader, so It's definitely not for me. But I bet you could put this on a separate site, SEO the site, make it available from cd rom or printed materials, and sell it for $20. I've seen a couple infomercials selling this exact same information.

We are a long ways after from a computer passing the "turing" test. Programmers need to be able to at least write a code that can get past Captcha before they can even think about getting past a human.

in How Much Is Your Privacy Worth? on How To Split An Atom
I've used Odesk before and I love it. The reason it is so successful is because of the transparency. Both the buyer and provider know what they are getting. The buyer is willing to pay on a per hour basis because there is not padding from the provider. The provider is willing to give a snapshot of the pc screen because they know they are working and will get paid for the job.

If you are actually doing the job you are supposed to do, then there shouldn't be any problems with letting the employer watch. But everyone that has worked in an office before knows that you are not working 100% of the time. Probably not even 50% of the time. How many times have you seen people checking personal emails, playing solitare, reading popular blogs, or just standing around the water cooler shooting the chit. Come on, be honest, we all know this happens. If you are a regular employee, then that's the price the employer pays to do business. But if you are freelancer, you are charging a premium and you should be delivering what you promised.

I'm for odesk and if my employer gave me the opportunity to work from home with an odesk type software, I'd take it. Of course I own the company so many I have a different perspective.

in Working At Home [Business] on How To Split An Atom
I tried working from home and just couldn't do it. Too many distractions from the TV, refrigerator, and dog. So I go to the local library everyday. Free wifi, comfortable chairs, and it's quite. I feel like I have a large office.

in Next to Watch: Jessica Simpson’s Sex Tape? on The Inquisitr
I'm not surprised if she appears in a sex tape, but I would be surprised if it's with her ex. Any tape that they created would have been released a long time ago. I can't imagine someone having such a goldmine and not releasing it sooner when she was on dukes of hazzard and the mtv reality tv show.

"Living with a severe disability that forever alters your ability to live an independent life"

what does that mean? Are we talking about being in a coma with no brain activity or are we talking about partial paralysis from the waist down. There is a big difference in the two.

in Building Better eCommerce Sites on How To Split An Atom
Interesting analogy. Elephants are the last thing I think of when I think of eCommerce and Amazon.

It's not fair to compare Amazon to regular eCommerce sites unless you are talking about other major sites with over 10 million in revenue. Most eCommerce sites are small mom and pops, or it is a side business to a retail store. These stores don't have the $7 billion Amazon has to hire analyst, SEOs, buyers, programmers, and the other 10,000 plus staff that Amazon employs. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

sbspalding's picture
sbspalding The size is obviously different, but what I was trying to illustrate was
that where Amazon has succeeded has been in making their site a portal as
well as a simple "store." I think where smaller retailers have to stand out
is creating community around their offerings, even if it is something as
simple as a forum. It can really help.

Thanks for the input mate.
