in Google preparing to launch a PC operating system on VentureBeat
It will take a very bold person at this point to install a Google OS on their system. They will be letting go of all their local applications, and be dependent mainly on web apps, and apps people start to develop for the Chrome OS (a very small pool to choose from).

in When Talking About Business Models, Remember That Profits Equal Revenues Minus Costs on A VC
With internet businesses neck deep in the "free" culture, on-premise software vendors have been ranking in the billions. Now with the internet becoming an increasingly important medium to deliver even business applications (SaaS). Since many of these SaaS applications will be replacing traditional costly on premise software, business consumers will be pretty open to paying up for these web based products.

SaaS companies could make for pretty straightforward business models by simply charging for their products rather than looking for alternate models. Early SaaS companies have built very financially viable businesses by following this simple model. All this will work, unless biggies like Google ruin it all by using their incredible economic clout to offer free business products and run loss making business units, and compensate for it from profits from other business units (advertising)

in Office 2010 continues Microsoft’s streak of brilliant product names on VentureBeat
I would be interested in seeing Office 2010's compatibility with online collaboration software like HyperOffice , which have traditionally worked well with the desktop Office suite. There is a natural fit, since people would now be able to collaborate on Office documents without having to depend on the local system having MS Office installed, and also have other productivity software wrapped around (calendars, workspaces, tasks). But i wonder if Microsoft wants this pie for itself, and will develop its own collaboration system.

in Zoho Writer Gets Redesigned, Becomes More Like Office on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
i still find it hard to reconcile myself to using purely web based word processing software for business purposes. we are just too used to using MS Office to process data. we use HyperOffice to collaborate on MS Office files, and are able to get the major benefits of online word processing software - remote access, and the ability to collaborate. most systems do already have MS Office installed locally, so accessing files on remote systems isnt much of a problem. we're hoping that the release of Office 14 will completely get rid of this problem.

jjray7 I hear you Jake but for the individual cost is king. Free cannot be beat. I keep limping along with MS Office 2000. One day I won't be able to load it on the new machine I purchase. Then will come the choice, go all the way with free document software or buck up for MS Office currently selling for $239.99 (for the professional version). Given the price of PCs today, that's almost 1/2 the cost of a scaled down machine. I am certain there are many freelancers out there looking at MS Office the same way I am. Either the price comes down significantly our we go freeware for documents.

in 2009/01/06/webex-on-iphone/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
the phrase "free download" is a little misleading, as a webex account will have to be set up first to be able to participate in meetings, and the iPhone plugin will simply help participate in meetings. talking of communication and collaboration through the iPhone, another cool app is (HyperOffice, which lets you access intranet features through the iPhone - document collaboration, official mail, Outlook mail, calendars, contacts, forums etc.

in Not being the boss - my biggest adjustment in my career change on ckstevenson
Outsourcing, or working from home is certainly the wave of the future. i left a regular job in a well known software company myself to tread this new path. I use the HyperOffice collaboration suite for managing productivity and information and collaborating with my clients.

a great tool that that should certainly have made the list is HyperOffice , its the only web based tool to offer integrated messaging (mail, calendars, contact directories, task management), collaboration (document management, intranet extranet publishing, forums) and conferencing (web conferencing) to small and medium sized businesses

in The perfect CRM would be really simple, but not too. on Duct Tape Marketing
i was considering act as a crm solution...but its just so expensive!!! plus i needed to set it up on a server. i opted for web based HyperOffice instead which provided me good contact management functionality plus integrated productivity and extranet features.

half the businesses in USA home based! that is an incredible statistic. i guess this creates a huge oppurtunity for web based communications and collaborations solutions like ours (hyperoffice).

isnt the fact that Workspace ties directly into MS Office products unfair to competitors who might offer online document collaboration solutions? Does it comprise misuse of MS's near monopoly of the office suite market?

I argue, it does. Read my article - http://www.onlinedocumentsharingreviews.com/off...

Avatar I guess you are not familiar on how market laws and competition laws work on paper and out of paper. those are mainly the reason why most bloggers are able to give flack to microsoft. given MS position as number one leader when somehow microsoft underdelivers. they usually cannot enter into a market if the competition is too small. they need to wait for the rule of 3 to apply. 3 market leaders in a market of many other small competitors competing. once that happens. it is OK to enter into that market. this is the reason Microsoft invests so much in research and development. they need to create new markets that are vertical to the established markets and also be ready for opportunities in others already established markets. just like they did with xbox live, surface, media center, mediaroom, embed tv and many many more examples. it is not that Microsoft cannot get first into something or is unable to outpace competition. the thing is that they are most bounded by law to wait their turn to play. otherwise you would see competition, monopoly practices claims, unfair advantage, etc, etc lawsuits flying at a rate way way way higher than it is now. this is not something known because it is also not ok for microsoft to say anything about them. it is a fascinating theme. just not very commented on properly.

in High gas prices drive businesses to Web conferencing - Page 2 on IT Business
recently released hypermeeting from hyperoffice will certainly create ripples. Its very ease to use, powerful, and most importantly, it integrates with HyperOffice's collaboration solution. ive always thought integrated collaboration+web conferencing would be explosive.

in High gas prices drive businesses to Web conferencing on IT Business
hypermeeting is a new easy to use online web conferencing solution for small businesses from HyperOffice. what i like about hypermeeting is that it integrates with the rest of HyperOffice's collaboration suite. i think there are great synergies to be reaped.

in MobileMe Outage on Ubergizmo
I never have been a great mobileme fan, because other solutions offer a much better deal, like http://iphone.hyperoffice.com. in addition to synching personal information across the iPhone and desktop (which is what mobileme does) it also lets you share information with others (essential from a business context) and also lets you share and view documents from your iPhone (a unique feature). now thats what i would truly call an "exchange alternative" or "exchange for the rest of us". this mail outage is the last straw!

in Why it probably isn’t worth using .Mac/MobileMe on Paul Jacobson
moreover mobileme doesnt even live up to the reputation of being "exchange for the rest of us". it only allows for synching of personal information rather than the ability to share information, one of the critical features of Exchange. there are other offerings like hyperoffice which allow this.

in WWDC 2008 Keynote Annoucments, Apple iPhone 3G & MobileMe on Laughing Squid
mobileme was for me the most exciting announcement, but even that is a little dissapointing. thats because its still mobileME (personal info management) and not mobileUS (information sharing). so it cant really be called "exchange for the rest of us". i guess that keeps solutions like HyperOffice viable as they also allow for sharing of info (contacts, calendars, docs etc) across mac, pc and iPhone.

in RIM - End of Days? on StartupSquad.com
RIM commited an elementary marketing blunder - give customers less than the best as long as competition is not around. that works only as long as theres no competition, and as soon as someone better comes along, theyre going to drop you like a hot potato - and theres no recovering from that position

i would have expected Hyper Office to certainly make the cut. it offers very extensive functionality and suits smaller companies like ours.
