Ok, so we've demonized the health insurers, so now what?

Can the gov't really provide quality, low cost care? Is quality really better in England? Does everyone get easy access in Canada?

The moveon crowd does a better job of pointing out problems with the current system than they do in providing good alternatives.

Jay - it's true we should move away from archaic "piecework" payment structures. We need to figure out how to pay for outcomes, not just activity.

Check out what Dr. John Toussaint is writing about on his blog, trying to move toward payments for population health outcomes.

Jay Parkinson, MD Awesome...super interesting ideas. We're basically trying to innovate on the health care delivery side of things. We need to really partner with the equally innovative payment side of things. Know any companies interested in that?

This is a "Japan problem" not a "Toyota problem." People aren't dying of overwork in Kentucky or France, at Toyota plants there.

I'm not making excuses for Toyota, but it's unfair to pin this on TPS. It's Japanese culture apparently, as it happens at many non-Toyota companies. I would expect better from Toyota, but be fair.

I don't know if I'd pin it on Bush... Congress (Democrat controlled) isn't doing much either.

It certainly falls to the leadership of the hospital and the culture of un-accountability they've apparently created. How sad.

It really is terrible. "Lean vs China" used to be about lead time and labor costs. Now it's about life and death eh?
