in How To Upgrade Your TiVo Series3 Hard Drive on Zatz Not Funny!
Wow, that was fast.
I have a feeling I'll be looking at this post again in a couple of weeks after our Series 3 has arrived and we've maxxed it out with a few HD shows...
Thanks!

in Catching Up On The TiVo HME With A Series 3 on Davis Freeberg's Digital Connection
Well, for better or worse, I just went and spent $680 on a Series 3 (15% off coupon to the TiVo Community Store).
I'll have to try some of these apps when my Series 3 arrives.

in Firefox 2.0 released on Johnny Chadda .se
Considering that it's a 2.0 release, I didn't think that there were that many compelling new features, though I'd be very glad if they've fixed its memory usage so it doesn't take up 3.8 GB of virtual memory on my Mac. :-)
I might just wait a few weeks until all of the extensions are revved for 2.0.

in Ubuntu Switch on Life is grand
Mac is a better choice if you love OS X or the apps like Microsoft Office, iTunes, Quicksilver, etc. or don't want to futz around with getting your wireless to work and such.
Ubuntu is very nice if you're a more hands-on person (it's mostly pretty automatic, but who knows if it's going to properly detect and support your laptop's video and wireless) and don't mind using open-source substitute apps like OpenOffice, Amarok, etc.

in EXIF, jhead and the joys of hidden thumbnails on davebgimp.com
jhead, if I remember correctly, is also useful for adjusting the timestamps of your photos when you traveled to another timezone and forgot to adjust the time on the camera!

I run Windows 2000 on my Ubuntu system using QEMU. Works great, especially with the kqemu kernel module loaded.

I agree. Ubuntu is awesome.
Ubuntu is great and Dapper Drake makes it even better!
I upgraded to Dapper and was pleasantly surprised to find that my system is much more responsive than with Breezy. Firefox seems especially snappier. I really like the new GNOME deskbar applet too.

in HD envy on Home Theater Blog
I'm looking to upgrade to HDTV and I'm having a hard time deciding between CRT, LCD, and rear projection. I think I want a 42" and I don't want plasma because of the half-life and burn-in. The rear projections (e.g.: DLP) bug me, because the bulbs burn out once a year or so and cost a lot of money. LCD can have dead pixels. Sheesh - makes me just want to have a good old reliable CRT, except that they seem very hard to find now, especially in larger sizes.

Interesting. I've been using the WebDAV on my DreamHost account to backup small but important files. This might be a good way to store my big audio and video files and then I could use DreamHost's Subversion support to store smaller texty things like .bashrc files and the like.

in Please, Firefox - don’t drop the ball on Mathew's comments
I agree that Firefox uses a lot of RAM - that's my main complaint.
I like tabs, but I think the real strength of Firefox are the plugins, that it's cross-platform, and that it's more secure.
