The economy, definitely. We've been sold down the river with the fat cats looting the treasury (although it is really fake money). The regular folk (aka useless eaters) are merely looked upon by the powers that be in terms of what we can provide for them -- service or more wealth. We are to be consumers. If you don't buy and participate in our "great" economy, you aren't doing what you're supposed to do.

My preparations are for sustainability in light of the coming realization about the economic disaster in which we live. No debt. Grow our own food. Live away from any urban areas (10,000 people in the county). Live on limited income.

It's just a matter of time before things really go belly up because no one in gov't has the balls to do anything meaningful and real about the situation (it's probably too late anyway) and too many people don't appear to want to face the harsh reality and do what it takes to get through it.

If you have the space, you can grow your own chickens and turkeys to can. If you can the whole chicken, it's easiest to boil them for a few hours until the meat comes off the bones easily. Then take the meat off the bones, fill quart jars, and add broth from the cooking to the jars. Process at 10 Lbs for 90 minutes (here in KY). You can can the broth without meat, too, at 10 Lbs for 25 minutes (for quarts).

We also can venison, beef, goat, lamb, and turkey (and broth/stock). It's very nice to have on hand -- healthy fast food.

Some of these solar garden lights also would make good emergency interior lighting. You charge them for free during the day, bring them in at night, and have free light. There are some lantern style varieties that might work better. It's worth considering.

Well.. Just cause a dog acts nervous, doesn't always mean that they have been abused.. Lack of socialization also makes for a skittish, and nervous dog, and sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference just seeing them being afraid.

What you should do is allow her to be part of her life without overwhelming her. Let her see that you are worthy of respect, you are reliable and consistent, that you take care of things. When she is acting scared.. One nice long pat from head to tail without saying anything is fine. It lets her know you are there and you are calm and she should be calm, but you aren't feeding into hear fear and sucking her up.

You don't want to treat her like ' oh you poor baby ' cause she will use that and feed off it and turn into even more of a scared dog because that is what she will think that you expect of her.

When she is upset, don't you be upset. Be the calm person she would expect alpha to be.. They look to us for how they should act and react to things, if you are calm, she'll learn to be calm.

Let’s take a lesson from motorcyclists.
I’ve been riding with a motor and ‘battling’ for my place on the road for over twenty years.......as a mass, motorcyclists have been around a bit longer than ‘mass’ cyclists.
Ever noticed how they will wave to each other as they pass, how they will talk to each other sitting at the lights (let them sit between your cars or go to the front of the queue as it’s the safest place, a major proportion of accidents are rear enders at lights) whilst this camaraderie would have taken years to evolve it was something that I wanted to be a part of when I got my licence, by comparison ‘mass’ cycling is in its infancy, we clearly need more time to come to terms with each other before anyone else. I can see that trying to take it up as a sport could be intimidating.
Cycling is the new golf, carbon shafts are being replaced in the shed with carbon frames, while every golf club has people at different levels, so too does cycling.
Numbers will continue to grow and for many reasons, people searching for a healthier lifestyle, cheaper transport or for environmental concerns......been to Europe, seen the numbers of cyclists in cities there, it is insane??
To the ‘aloof’ pseudo pro who seemingly hogs the road and looks down – whilst it’s your chosen sport and you have to contend with weekend hacks, you’re just a club golfer and have no greater right to the course than anyone else swinging a club, even though you’re on the equivalent of a single figure handicap.
With regard to all the quips about cycling behaviour, you can bet your life that these are the same people who when driving sit in the outside doing 90 on the freeway, change lanes without looking or indicating, push their way into traffic, inadvertently through no apparent reason or no fault of their own somehow have in sighted someone else......it’s not about the bike, people can be numb to what is going on around them!!
There just isn’t enough courtesy in the world.

I also have domains at Registerfly.com, which has shut its' servers down today for some frightening reason. Eight of my domains where with enom.com. Enom sent me an email offering to allow me to push management of the domains registered by Registerfly - through Enom - to Enom so that I wouldn't have to deal with Registerfly's crappy service anymore. I pushed management of all 8 domains to Enom for free. The Enom email informing me of their offer had landed in my junk email folder and I happened upon it quite by mistake. Glad I did! Maybe you got the same offer. Check your email...

Wind plants are nice and all, but it is ridiculous to compare them to nukes.

Wind farms typically provide much more power in the off peak hours, and only as the wind blows, whereas nukes will provide steady constant power.

Granted, they are nice, and don't pollute (aside from visually). But we do ourselves a disservice by not being honest with ourselves about such things.

One of the articles I read said that his oldest daughter, the one who went to police, knew her mother was killed. Apparently he started abusing the duaghter when she was eleven, the mother found out, and was subsequently killed by this crazy asshole. The eldest duaghter is now 19, and has said she was forced to help her dad put mom in the freezer. Not sure what the other children know. The 19 year old moved out recently and told a friend about the abuse and the murder.

I've had several days to let my mind absorb this story, and I'm still having a problem wrapping my mind around it. Lori Drew is a selfish, petty woman with no soul. I mean, she has to be.

What other type of "adult" (using the term extremely loosely, here) would purposely and maliciously dupe, harass, and torment a CHILD of 13? I feel very strongly that there must be something that this horrible woman can be charged with. She should be punished.

Great work done. I really admire your dedication.
I have tried avoiding vehicles for about a month, and just used to run on bicycles. It was really hard. I can feel the troubles you might have faced the whole year. Keep it up. you rock.

Good for you for making your own bacon! More people would probably do it if they knew how easy it is. And curing your own meats is very rewarding.

Another very good resource is Charcuterie by Ruhlman and Polcyn. Everything I've tried so far (maple bacon, Canadian bacon, pancetta, and a couple of sausages) have been excellent.

This looks like a dish right up my alley! I love lamb and I agree that adding the onions at the end does make a difference.
