Ohhh it's all making sense! I remember being introduced to you all but I think I was quickly whisked away somewhere else. Thank you so much for coming to the show and liking my music! I will have to meet you all again next time I'm up in NYC, except NOT during the show when I'm totally all over the place.

Hi Stowe, I enjoy reading your blog and respect your opinion. However, Chris isn't accepting payola in a throwback terrestrial style. He's not a journalist. Would it make a difference if Chris Brogan distributed his work for entertainment purposes alone?

First of all, I am not singling Chris out for individual attention, except for the fact that his situation is the one that caught my eye. I didn't do extensive research on Feldman, or Chris Heuer's shopping experience at Sears, because I wanted to focus on the general issues here, not the specific.
To generalize your question: Would it have made a difference if a blogger distributed their work for entertainment purposes alone? If you mean a/ they wrote about it for the entertainment of others without being paid to write about the experience, well, sure it make a difference. If you mean b/ if they went for the personal entertainment of a shopping spree and didn't write about it, fine.

Thanks for the article, Fred. I disagree with your opinion on how people prefer to consume media. People like watching broadcasts at a scheduled time.
Erik Schwartz, broadcast is not dead. Sports and live events are not the only exceptions out there either. What about live shows, breaking news and interactive game broadcasts? These are just as compelling as live sports are so if you didn't catch it live then you can watch the rerun on-demand. I predict that 2009 will the year we see the live broadcast channels come to fruition. Live broadcasts in 2009 will be the 2006 of clip videos.

Breaking news is inherently a live event, so I included that. Live, non-sporting, entertainment shows have mostly been dead since the 1950s. I'm not sure what you mean by "interactive game broadcasts".
It's going to get MUCH worse for broadcast too, look at the next generation. My kids (ages 6 and 4 (and 1, but she does not count)) don't even understand the concept of a television show being on at a particular time. To them TV is something that "Tivoman" gets for them and they watch when they want, or we find it on YouTube. If they're watching sports with me they get upset that we can't skip commercials.
Broadcast has been dying for a long time. It started with the VCR, but there was too much friction in the system (the ubiquitous blinking 12:00). Technology has caught up and removed that friction.
Broadcast only makes sense when there is appreciable value to the consumer in viewing the event live.

Sarah, I really like your comment: I predict that 2009 will the year we see the live broadcast channels come to fruition. Live broadcasts in 2009 will be the 2006 of clip videos.
I like where this is going and would love to believe it. ESPN is changing most of it's content in the future (2009 & beyond) to "live" format, as they realize that the taped (and delayed) shows are commoditized.
What really interests me around consumption of content is the experience that goes with it. I go to concerts for a reason - I can listen to an album any day of the week, but if I want an experience, I go. A post I had written in 2006 about this: http://tinyurl.com/powermusic

Hi Mark,
I love your writing and personal stuff. Maybe you can help me figure out how to divide my personality from pop17. There needs to be a difference between Sarah Austin and pop17. I should take @GaryVee's advice on personal branding. I'd like the pop17 twitter to update about internet fame and Sarah Austin to update about lifecasting and my silly tweets about what I'm doing. Mixing them just confuses people. :-)
What do you think?
xx Sarah

The worst gift I have given was when I was 7 years old. I gave an old teddy bear that was given to me by my mother. She knew it was old and said she didn't like it! lol kids.

Could be bad news for justin.tv soon. It comes down to the courts eventually, but for now they will just pull channels that are breaking the terms of service.

Well, some of them I find irrelevant. Scoble tweets too much for me, though I love him to death. And a handful I don't like the persona's that they have on the web. I've never met them so I can't say that's exactly how they are, but from what I do know, I don't like. This doesn't apply to everyone. More like the top 10 suggestions I received.

I look forward to your lifecast in the redwood room. I would like to webcam you into my mogulus show sometime. It's live on Thursdays from 3pm ET.
Check out Mogulus on http://pop17.com/live and notice the green screen? You can do this with cam twist and put websites behind you. Do you like that idea?
Will you syndicate it via camtasia to all other platforms like ustream and stickam? please let me know so i may subscribe or know how to get it.
