Why? Almost everyone I would add is on Myspace (ugh!). And only 2 of my friends have a facebook account.

I've been trying to move them over, but they're all "design handicapped" and think myspace is better because you can customize it with hideous backgrounds and colors, etc.

The only thing I would change about Facebook is their updater. As it stands now, you have to write the sentence with the words {Name} is _________. I'd rather just type in a short message in present, past, or future tense like I do in Twitter.

Re: Apple, er AT&T, tells corporate types to pound sand

Why not just get the free crappy AT&T phones, buy some iPhones sans the phone service from the apple store, and swap the SIM cards?

Re: Apple, er AT&T, tells corporate types to pound sand

Just talked to an AT&T rep...He said you have to have the iPhone service added to your account in order for your SIM card to work. Apple integrates it into their operating system because Apple develops that software.

And to those that say that Linux is hard for the mainstream user obviously haven't tried Linux for a while. Pretty much any recent Debian based distro (like the Ubuntu flavors, Dreamlinux, etc.) are very easy to use and migrate to.

My wife, who knows absolutely nothing about computers, XP or Linux, likes using Linux better than XP. She says it's faster.

The Linux operating system is also no where near a copy of Windows. The only things similar on Linux to windows is the Desktop environments. And even then, they're much more similar to Mac's desktop environment.

For those of you that haven't used Linux in a while, don't comment on what you don't know or keep up with.

Re: Adobe Chief Software Architect has an iPhone, says “ask Apple” about Flash

Bess Said: "Safari doesn't support everything on AJAX."

That's just not true. The fact of the matter is this: Some AJAX developers don't support (or don't know how to support) Safari.

If all Web Developers used best practices and unobtrusive JavaScript, then AJAX applications would work on ANY browser.

As to Flash, the only thing it's good for, IMO, is video and games. That's it. Any other application of Flash technology on the web is downright ignorant and inaccessible. You want cool animations? AJAX can do it. You want scalable graphics? Use SVG. Dynamic Web Applications? Use SSS (Server Side Scripts).

If only we all had the mentality of Jeremy Keith or Dave Shea. The web would be a much better place.

Re: Are you a hypermiler?

Neuromancer said, "How long before a “hypermiling” driver runs over a kid cyclyst or biker becuase he was distracted by cheking his MPG."

My question to you is, How many times have you heard of someone running over a kid cyclist or biker because he was distracted my checking his MPH? However, I do have a problem when someone takes your art without permission, and makes money off of it. It's different if they change it or re-mix it, but to use an unaltered photograph, and say, sell prints of it without your permission--that's just wrong. Plain and simple.

Anyhow, as long as the photos are still hosted on the Flickr website and haven't been copied to anyone's server, it's not a copyright violation.

Read Flickr's terms of service. You agreed to have those photos used in their searches, feeds and API. You don't like it, don't use it.

Use Adobe Bridge instead. If you don't want something of yours to be used or abused, don't upload it to the internet.

I read your post. It may be your opinion that the API violates your individual TOS...however that's just what it is...an opinion. And you know what they say about opinions...they're like @$$holes...everyone has one and they're all full of crap.

Now, a fact about this is that the photo distributed through the API is not being hosted ANYWHERE else but on Flickr's servers. Not a legal violation of TOS OR Copyright.

If you really still think you have a legal leg to stand on, sue them. Put your money where your mouth is.

But, what it boils down to is this: Don't like it, don't use it.

If this was a camera store, and you didn't like the way they did business, why would you still be a patron of that store?

You don't like the way Flickr does business. Why do you still use Flickr? This confuses me.

It's a matter of logic, Jim. Not principle.

Re: How Every Flickr Photo Ended Up on Sale This Weekend

Joy...as an alternative, even if Right Click/Save Picture As doesn't work, you can press the "Print Screen" button, and paste into Photoshop or any other photo editing program.

So, no matter what Flickr does, as long as your photos are uploaded there or anywhere else on the internet, people can copy them without your permission. What did I say? "I believe that the talent of “art” is a gift. You receive free, give free." Notice that phrase, "I believe..." It doesn't mean that's an ideal for everyone...it means that that's what I wish the world could be like. As long as it keeps paying the bills, I'm not going to change things. HOWEVER, if someone steals a photo or graphic of mine for their use, I have no problem with that. Just give a little credit my way and I'm fine with that.

And, yes, Art IS different from other forms of "work." How? Usually, the person performing the art ENJOYS what they do.
