Totally agree that Valeria and Shannon rock! Inspiration abounds! Also, having met and talked with Jared earlier this year, he not only gets you thinking but a genuinely nice person too.

in Where does Social Media live in the organization? on Ignite Social Media
Social media should be integrated into an overall business strategy. While social media mangers are popular now, I fear the job will be tactical in five years and far from strategic. I think the question of where social media belongs is being twisted into a question of control. Forget control...but here should be a guide and stable place for the social media strategy to reside for all users in the business. What better place than public relations...of course, if conducted properly with the right people, at the right time, using the right tools.

in When Interests Collide on The Social Media Marketing Blog
Passion is the name of the game! Passion is what makes a blog interesting and successful. My blog began as research for my thesis over two years ago, but took on a life of its own. The community that flocks to and around passionate blogs has built such an incredible dynamic in my life. I am so blessed to be able to have the freedom and time to write and speak about my passions. So often we think the Internet without borders and above the law, but such freedom of speech is not granted everywhere even on the Web.

in Social Media- Talk is Cheap for Businesses on Chris Brogan
You are spot on...In fact, I was asking Twitter yesterday for corporate staffing organization examples. You have captured everything I have been tasked to brief to my corporation. I do not agree with Jim Durbin that it will take quite so long for corporations to adapt, but it will be an uphill battle. My main focus is to maintain authenticity in all profiles. Yes, I will stay in tune with all the new apps and technology, but "stepping up my game" means to staying honest and leading my corporation down the path of choosing the right channels, not just the lastest widget.

I use Twitter Favorites in conjunction with text file to flag interesting tidbits/sayings. Looking at friend's Twitter Favorites also gives me insight to what my readers crave.

in Challenges of Social Media Types in the Workplace on Chris Brogan
You are right on the money. I am in a quasi-govt environment and it took explaning and specifics to access areas of the Internet. Video is the last to tackle without a doubt. Once I showed my superiors and IT how I was using the information I was granted more access. Patience, Grasshopper. It took one year to get video...

Since I posted my sm resume in August, more opportunities have come my way! I track the number of page views and referrers. My portfolio is a huge scrapbook. I wanted my work to stand out from the crowd, but I did not go too artsy. I am in the process of scanning my pages to Flikr.

in See The Game on Chris Brogan
From the moment I stepped into the workforce, I was told to suck it up and "play the game".

Last semester, my students recreated a monopoly games to understand the retail marketing issues and available solutions. The goal was to keep playing the game better and together with team.

This semester, one of my classes will have to recreate the LIFE game. The game is about personal and professional life and consequences of choices made - there is no going back.

All play the game, but it is enlightening to see on a gameboard the choices you make may reveal you to be the villain. Suck it up and play the game.

For goodness sakes! Ladies, step up or shut-up! Personally, I would not want a woman on the panel who pulled the gender card to get the speaking position. Let's get it on our own merit.

in I saw an engagment once… on Open the Dialogue
As I stated in Steve's comments, the only thing mythical is expecting immediate results from engagement. I agree that engagement is getting customers into the loop and then acting on their feedback.
