Regardless, your sycophantic postings get old quickly. You're an Arsenal fan, I get it. You're ahead of everyone else in the league. Other teams lose matches. You're petty.

Re: Upset Alert

Give it a rest...this blog used to be a great place to come to read articles and opinions, now it's just a pissing contest between fanboy bloggers. I think it's unfortunate that the game has been reduced to an argument about whether or not Masch deserved a second yellow. I saw a different Liverpool today than I've seen in recent weeks--early on I thought it was jitters, but even in the twenty or so minutes before Masch was sent off they looked unsettled. It may have been that Man U are that much better, but there was no flow. Tactically speaking, there is little to assess, as they didn't have much possession prior to the sending off and after the sending off there was really no attack. Gerrard was forced to sit deeper, leaving Torres to be marked by two men at a time. I was upset at Masch for getting over involved, but I can understand the emotion. Liverpool were outclassed, which is difficult to say, and the huzzah over the red card will take most of the blame. I won't say good for Steve Bennett, because a sporting event should never, NEVER, be about the officials. Clearly the FA has had problems recently, but the post-game story should not focus on the man with the whistle. Would have been nice to see the match without the three-ring circus, regrettably we won't know, and I have a feeling the Pool would have lost anyhow.

Re: Good For You, Steve Bennett

I'm flattered you agree with parts of my evaluation, but I don't want the other important part of my post dismissed. I do not blame Bennett for the loss, that is clear, but I do blame him for placing himself dead-center in a match with huge title implications. EPLNFL puts it about as well as I could--there have been many times in watching Bennett that I think, "He's booking that player because he doesn't know what else to do". The best sporting officials are unemotional, calm, and collected. Bennett has never given me that impression. What do I know about officiating a footie match? Shit. But I do know that vindictiveness has no place in the world of officiating, whether it's at the rec park or in the Premier league. A couple weeks ago a character in "The Wire" said "deserve got nothin' to do with it". That applies here--who cares who deserves what, Masch acted like an idiot, but all is not well with the FA and its officials when we're singing an official's praises for sending a player off. Objectivity among officials is a joke, it always has been. What is the next step...robots, maybe?

Re: Good For You, Steve Bennett

PS--by "huge title implications", I do not mean to say that Liverpool were on their way to a title by winning--I'm a huge fan, but not delusional.

Re: Chelsea is Closer to Winning the Premier League Title Than You Think

I thought they were close, how much closer could they be?

Re: Liverpool Deserves Better Owners Than Hicks & Gillett

Feel free to paint with a broad brush, casting all Liverpool fans as classless thugs who threaten their owners with death and spit on their sons. Usually I disagree with the criticism the writers of this site receive, but in this case, well founded. Misspelling of players' names and the grammatical errors are the least of your problems, but those are still present. How would Gerrard leaving Liverpool help change the environment of not playing international footie this summer? Nobody proclaimed a huge renaissance after the Derby win--everyone, even the most delusional of Liverpool fans, acknowledged that as an embarrassment regardless of the 3 points. Gerrard leaving Liverpool for a place like Barca, Real Madrid, or one of the top 3 domestically would, in my opinion, taint his reputation. The reason he's so inspirational, in my opinion, is BECAUSE it's Liverpool. Haven't read any of your other stuff Jonny, don't plan to after this steaming pile you've left on the front porch of EPL Talk. Shame on the Gaffer for letting you in.

Re: Why doesn’t Steven Gerrard just leave Liverpool?

An article so bad I had to post twice. Can't get over the ignorance that this article reeks of. My new favorite line is that "finishing one spot ahead of Everton doesn't guarantee you anything"--except a Champion's League spot this year. The omission of Javier Mascherano in your foolish rant might be the biggest mistake--many fans who actually understand football and follow Liverpool have rated Masche as closely, if not higher, than Gerrard at many points this season. Finally, I saw that you/one of your embarrassed colleagues corrected the spelling of Riise's name--now feel free to change "Sammy" to "Sami", then delete the whole article.

Re: Why doesn’t Steven Gerrard just leave Liverpool?

Please don't generalize this to mean that all Americans know dick about football--I'm American and have seen the light about the real football, and it's embarrassing to read such uninformed crap.

Re: Full-Time Thoughts–Arsenal vs. Liverpool

How profound Alex, what poignant commentary you always make, any Arsenal detractor is obviously self-centered, delusional, some sort of government conspirator, or simply idiotic. Full credit to Arsenal, the scoreline was cruel with only three men (including Almunia) behind the ball when Kuyt's long ball found Babel for the capper. This was a thrilling tie, nervy until the very end. Have to say that Liverpool are fortunate, though, as there didn't seem to be much between the no-call on Hleb and the penalty today. I was overjoyed as a fan of Liverpool, but as a fan of football in general, it worried me about the inconsistency of the officiating. I am American, though, so completely discount everything I've written.

Re: Liverpool Magic Destroys Arsenal’s Trophy Dreams | EPL Talk

i got your pants right here

Re: Liverpool Magic Destroys Arsenal’s Trophy Dreams | EPL Talk

but gerrard really was shit, for most of the match i questioned whether or not he really cared. not a great feeling to have about your skipper.

Re: Benitez Is Right To Rotate Lineup | EPL Talk

Wah wah Pete. The league is so unfair that Liverpool can rotate--yet they're out of contention and have no shot to win a title. As a Liverpool fan, I don't view that as a luxury, rather, a disappointment.

Re: Benitez Is Right To Rotate Lineup | EPL Talk

I'm not sure I agree that Liverpool could never win the League under Benitez--I think he's a quality manager with, at times, misplaced priorities. Early in the season he talked about the importance of bringing the Premier League trophy to Anfield, but his team choices didn't reflect that. I think any fan would say that at this point we want to win whatever we can, but too often "whatever we can" is limited to one competition, and in recent times it hasn't been the Premier League. I think for Liverpool to truly be able to make a run at the title, team choices throughout the season need to reflect a 100% commitment. Altering rotation in mid-January when you're 9 points back is no commitment--it's more of an empty, "see how hard we're trying" gesture that ends up, unfortunately, with Liverpool having the option to be complacent with fourth in league at this stage in the season. Shitty choice, but a choice nonetheless in attempting to salvage another failed run at the elusive league trophy.

Re: Benitez Is Right To Rotate Lineup | EPL Talk

Jesus Alex give it a rest. I do realize, though, that others actually have enough money to have internet AND cable, so no worries. I agree that some of the comment moderation could be better, hell, I've probably posted a few things that should be deleted. I guess I would just like to see less complaining on the whole (as I said, I've probably done it too); "you're biased against xxxxxx and don't know anything because you're American." If anything, I get the sense that from the commenters there is a bias towards American fans and views--if it's American, it's bad. Kudos to Greece for having a successful formula, but as a mostly impartial viewer, watching games with teams like Greece, Romania, even Rangers in the UEFA Cup, is not that fun. I couldn't care less how many trophies Holland or Arsenal have won recently, but watching their games is more fun. As a Liverpool fan I excuse my squad when they shut things down and play defensive anti-football, but if it's teams I don't care about, the Greek style of play helps me change the channel pretty quickly.

Re: The Daily Telegraph Goes Back To The Future

I don't get it...what is wrong with the picture? As long as there was an understanding of the pace of play and each individual's responsibility was understood, the offense was free-flowing. Possibly from a binge-drinking session with John Terry? Focusing on two matches--one win, one draw--as evidence of his leadership is shallow...and as Arse pointed out above, the argument of problems arising from globalization of the Premier League is a dead horse. England's national team is one loaded with nearly all club first-teamers who play domestically except Beckham. You ask the question "What affect will the decision to name John Terry as captain have?" as if he hasn't already led England in a failed Euro qualifying campaign. Heap the blame on McLaren if you want, but Terry's slate isn't clean. Add in the poor form in Terry's personal life--i.e. drunkenly mocking Americans post 9/11, parking in handicap spots (ironically linked in the "Related Posts" of this article), drunken brawls, pissing on the floor of bars--and it doesn't reflect an ideal captain. His commitment to club and country is obviously strong, but his commitment to leading the type of lifestyle that a captaincy demands is lacking. Poor choice for England's captain and weak argument about his merits.

Re: Terry Retains England Captaincy | EPL Talk

But how effective would Gerrard be in MLS?

Re: Warning Signs For Liverpool Despite Injury Time Winner Against Boro

Isn't it the mark of a good team that they are able to win despite being clearly off form? For 85 minutes there was little to cheer, but they were pulled it out in the end. And why would people have faith in Liverpool? I don't know, how about being fans? Isn't that the point of cheering your team, believing and hoping they can win? Obviously room for improvement for Liverpool, but as others mentioned, how many times do you see Manchester leave it late and win or save a draw with a last gasp effort? In the first two months of last season, Man U won 4 games in league by only a goal, and drew twice. Don't remember a column dismissing their chances...

Re: Warning Signs For Liverpool Despite Injury Time Winner Against Boro

Not exactly a shining example of maturity Kartik...most of the comments, save for a couple in poor taste, have been based in fact or personal opinion. It happens to be my personal opinion that winning despite playing like shit is more a positive than a negative. I don't think it signifies doom for a title bid, and I'm optimistic as a fan of Liverpool. I'm very critical of Liverpool's performances, however, and while I'm happy about the win I am more than aware of some glaring holes in the side, some that could be fatal for title hopes. I am certainly not entitled to anything, other than being able to support my club and have an opinion about that team. I don't expect someone writing for this site to immediately write off someone's opinion as simply being bullying fanboys, or to take optimism as blind faith in the side. A sarcastic response to someone correcting you because they care about their club is not very impressive. One of the reasons I love football so much is because of the passion and commitment of fans; to mock that seems in poor taste.

Re: Warning Signs For Liverpool Despite Injury Time Winner Against Boro

Insulting my country and nationality is not a great way to get me to agree.

Re: Warning Signs For Liverpool Despite Injury Time Winner Against Boro

It just seems like there is an underlying assumption that there is something wrong with the American view on sports--a tired argument, sure, but what exactly is wrong/peculiar about our sporting tastes? It's basically negative American exceptionalism. I have a hard time being shamed into accepting being American means I am inherently naive/incorrect about my views on sports. In the same way that other cultures follow cricket or rugby, Americans like the NFL and MLB. No crime, just different tastes. Incidentally, I do follow the USMNT, admittedly not as closely as Liverpool, but I watch when I can and enjoy it as a fan of US sports in general.

Re: Warning: Websites Are More Dangerous Than Football Grounds

Geez Kartik you keep fishing for someone to say something insulting...No matter what, you always find what you're looking for.

Re: FIFA 09 Preview

Sorry Gaffer, that second video is FIFA 08. And Wigan did not have huge stretches of possession, they were better in the second half but were in no way dominant. Neither side deserved the 3 points. As a Liverpool fan, I'm tired of hearing the other teams' tactics blamed for draws or losses. Plus, there's nothing really original or controversial being said--Liverpool have blown it in January (and largely December) and have probably killed their title chances. The articles about Liverpool have basically turned into Mad Libs at this point--include negative adjectives about January form and Rafa's rants, throw in positive verbs about what Man U is doing to opponents, use superlatives to describe what it would take for Liverpool to win it. We get it, but for some reason you assume Liverpool fans are incapable of insight or unwilling to accept that the team is struggling right now. Being masters of the obvious doesn't really warrant much comment and certainly doesn't mean our supporters have gone into hibernation. Plenty of great dialogue and interesting articles over at ohyoubeauty.blogspot.com.

Re: Only a Miracle Will Save Premier League for Liverpool

The worst part is it's like confronting a racist--"I have lots of black friends"--when you bring up the negative Liverpool slant. Sure you've written articles about Liverpool doing well, but for Christ's sake, if you don't like them own up. I think in this case it's basically a push, unless you want to get technical and say they're the big winners because they're still in first and after today there is one less game to play in the season. And Boswinga would have been sent off in the 93rd minute, after Liverpool was already ahead. Unless Gerrard's sent off earlier, then Boswinga might not have ever been in the position to be sent off and Liverpool might not be ahead 1-0. And if Gerrard was sent off then Lampard might not be sent off and then Bosingwa probably wouldn't be sent off either. And then it might not have been 2-0, it could have been 0-0 or 1-0 or 0-1 or 4-2 or who knows what. Bottom line, hypotheticals are like lying to your brain. And Liverpool won 2-0.

Re: Selling Robbie Keane Could Be a Huge Mistake for Liverpool

eplmatches, you have not seen Kuyt's form lately, or watched him as the lone striker in the couple matches he's had that role. We have depth in "strikers," but we do not have depth in quality strikers. Kuyt does not have the skill, aerial ability, or pace to operate as the lone man up top. Keane at least had pace and technical ability; all Kuyt does is work hard. This hard work has created some fine opportunities in the past, but right now he's floundering. If Torres should go down or be unavailable, I think Liverpool have to switch to two strikers. Who those two strikers would be remains to be seen, but I don't think one up top is as effective without Torres. The relationship between Torres and Gerrard works because it's reciprocal, and without one of those cogs the system changes dramatically.

Re: It is Time for The World Cup to Come Home, to England

I'd be interested to know if this "informal survey" involved anything more than asking a couple friends what they think of England. And you make it sound like every Tom and Harry in the US is walking around with a pistol...it's not exactly the Old West. All-encompassing statements like "people carry guns in the US and do not in Britain" are mostly just foolish and irresponsible. There are certainly dangerous parts of the US and its cities, but I'd think that's true anywhere. I'm not qualified to say anything about Britain, so I won't, but maybe I'll do an informal survey to find out.
