in Creating value versus optimizing revenue on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen
Andrew,
You've hit the nail on the head. I've been focusing on this a lot more recently as well. There are too many people that are focused on getting the viral factor > 1.0 but they aren't focused on driving a targeted group of users to a substantial value proposition.
Your blog is a perfect example of this. While you may not have as much traffic as Techcrunch, you have an extremely targeted niche that listens to what you have to say. You provide an immense amount of value and in turn, you can generate potentially more clients (if desired) and more valuable connections.
It's time to focus on providing true value, not the quick buck. Targeted traffic > untargeted viral traffic. While the viral traffic can help I a much greater fan of targeted traffic and you're a great example of it. It's great to hear this coming from someone that it deep in the metrics though ;)
Best,
Nick

in What are the tech bloggers missing? Your business! on Scobleizer
Hey Robert,
You've hit the nail on the head. I'm about to launch a site/business targeted at this. That's about all I can say for now but there will be some upcoming announcements (a few in the next couple of days actually).
Best,
Nick

Hey Gary,
Obama does the same thing as Britney. Is he supposed to run his Twitter as well? I think he should but why is it acceptable for him not to?

When platforms change, it forces developers to change their applications. If the platforms remain backwards compatible and ensure that applications continue to receive equal exposure, there would be no tension.

in Gary Takes on DC Tech Events, Who Will Win? on Social Times
I've posted an update Ross, in some upcoming features, I plan on integrating DC Tech Events. Based on the comments in this thread I don't think Gary is going to gain much traction :)

in Gary Takes on DC Tech Events, Who Will Win? on Social Times
Hi Hank,
I definitely think you make some great points. I think it is also always best to support the locals. I think when I saw Gary's List, I realized that there is a lot more that can be done with the existing event list.
Conversely, perhaps it would be possible to use a "DC Tech Events" widget or something that we can all use and reference so that Ross gets credit but we have the ability to expand upon his offerings.
Leveraging his hard work and combining our own to make something even greater would make a lot of sense. What do you think? A number of us have tried the "congress" type of thing before and it didn't turn out too well. Perhaps there is a way to have an open discussion and informal meeting on a regular basis though so we can at least get together to discuss.
Any thoughts on that?
Best,
Nick

@Mike, I definitely disagree ... I don't think that this was as planned by any means ... the profile has not been rolled out to any networks yet

Adam,
This is nothing new ... this is simply an updated beta. If you have the developer application you've been able to view this for months. There are simply new features.

the new part is that a lot of non-developers can now see it ... they seem to have started the process of rolling out the beta to everyone.
