I have always had the observation and view point that strength in the OIH is important to look at when viewing the entire SPX from a trader's perspective.

Today, we took out the multi-month highs going back to January with an advance this week of roughly 10% even though crude was actually down about a Dollar on the week. Even more bizarre are the nat-gas land drillers like HP and PTEN that have surged even though their rig activity is down to roughly 1/3 of their entire fleet and NG is still in the dumper ( the Baker Hughes rig count fell another 30 to 975 today, down nearly half from a year ago ).

In any event, once the OIH starts to turn down and get weak, I will short with impunity!

Not arguing with your analysis, just wondering how COF matches up with AXP in your opinion. Both look dismal. What metrics do you use to differentiate which would be a better short candidate, or is it merely "feel"?

Point is that it will take more than 4 months to grind through 25 years of leverage and living beyond our means. Deflation works that way.

I happened to find your site by chance and it is very informative. One question I do have is when we see the ETF moving above the 200ema how long should we wait before we buy in. I know sometimes they may go above the 200ema but then spike down and the overall trend is down. Should we wait and if it goes up 5% then we know it is a buy?

Very odd, I agree. I thought the "N" word was bad? But by the same token, I don't know how much of this price movement is really due to news from Geithner or Obama, etc. These companies have tons of bad debt and no earnings. Full stop.

I'm a physician with no debt and largely unaffected by this so-called "meltdown", altho I'm sure I'll be swept up into it eventually. I've always thought banks and lending should be a utility with humungous regulation, little leverage and uniform standards-- like a utility.



I find it frankly amusing that all the supposed attributes of capitalism has now brought the system to its knees. Makes me glad I turned left into med school and not right into business school lo those many years ago. I may be poorer than Angelo Mozillo, but my soul is still intact.

If it stays below $5, do institutions have to sell it?


If so, it should be $3 by Monday.

A lot of these things need to be anyway, so why not do them now when:
a) capital is cheap... when else could the US Treasury borrow so cheaply?

b) labor is relatively plentiful... why not utilize all these otherwise unemployed folks to do something?

c) arguably this infrastructure spending will improve productivity... didn't they castigate Ike for the interstate highway system?

d) comparatively isn't this revenue better spent than the TARP?

Maybe a solution is going on, dish has dropped a message in his homepage, wich said that they did not seen an agreement near. Today I´ve found that the message was gone.
