I like the video feature.

90 seconds is a good restriction. People can't upload whole TV shows, etc. Short runtime forces you to edit creatively.

Flickr is primarily a photographic website, so the videos are "pictures but longer" and 90 seconds perfectly fits that.

There's plenty of websites if you want long-running videos. Vimeo, Viddler, YouTube, etc. Why would Flickr make another copy-cat? Instead of trying to compete, Flickr is doing a smart thing and differentiating their video service.

Re: The new iPhone really shows what annoys me about Apple

Your whole Apple-doesn't-let-users-do-complicated-tasks-because-users-would-hurt-themselves angle is very naïve.

Copy and paste is hard because it's hard to implement with the iPhone's UI. The web is primarily where you would copy/paste, and all the gestures are already being used for something else.

You're crazy if you don't think Apple has tried several ways to implement copy/paste and hasn't found a satisfactory way yet. Anywho, the 2.0 update isn't out yet, there could still be some surprises.

As an iPhone user for more than six months, it's really not that big of a deal for ne, I'm almost happy it's gone the way of menus and scrollbars.

Re: Please help us test Tumblr v4!

When I go a few pages back, or if I'm in messing with preferences, there should be a link to the Dashboard like there is now.

Otherwise, looks great. Keep up the good work.

Re: iPhone developer program is a joke

See, where RIM and Windows Mobile have failed is the mobile paradigm.

Fundamentally, RIM and Windows Mobile have basically taken the desktop model and used it in a mobile device. There's menus, you use a stylus to get the accuracy of a mouse, there's scrollbars. And you know, it's worked great for them so far, so why stop?

But on the flip-side, why do we need another RIM or Windows Mobile? There's already plenty of companies emulating them, the marketplace for a mobile device masquerading as a desktop computer is saturated. Apple is going a different way. Minimalism, no menus, no scrollbar, multi-touch.

And you know, coming from 0 to 28% marketshare in the US in 8 months, Apple is doing just dandy if you ask me.

Talk of a "public outcry" is empty. All I see is a vocal minority of "jailbreak" hackers who predict a triumphant surge in the unofficial jailbreak method.

Personally, my money is on Apple. I didn't see EA, Sega and AOL lined up to write unofficial applications.
