in 2008/07/22/broadband-metering/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Steven Hodson offers a thorough analysis to the problem of limited access to Internet/Broadband services.
I thought I had read previously somewhere else that the demand for broadband was declining. In order to remain competitive, some companies may be bundling their services with "value added services" which is fine but presents a problem when there is a focus on services so expensive that the average user can not afford those services. Access needs to be a priority.
As an example of an ISP assuming that I could afford an additional "value added service" I recently received a notice: "We are writing to confirm that the Static IP address provided with your DSL account will be cancelled July 31, 2008." My ISP wants to charge me an additional $15 per month on top of the $40 per month I currently pay for DSL - I can't afford that.

in Should Schools Require Shakespeare? on Sam Harrelson's Comment Forum
Shakespeare should be a requirement not only to gain exposure to a beautiful style of writing and to gain an appreciation of language and literature but also The Bard had a keen insight into psychology.
Anyone who graduates from high school and/or college without exposure to Shakespeare is being cheated.

in How to calculate blog reach & influence? on Vinny Lingham's Blog
Vinny, when "Hundreds of thousands of sites — ranging from automated splogs to high-profile online media — use RSS feeds from good independent bloggers as part of their content" -- do you take that as a compliment? I was wondering if that could be prevented in any way?

The compatibility chart sounds a bit astrological *laugh*
Thanks for the link. The chart demonstrates the complexity of the bidding methodologies and provides a comparative framework for anyone who'd like to start/continue an Adwords campaign strategy.

Getlandingpages.com's examples looked like full page ads to me.
These examples might coordinate well with PPC campaigns but they seem to be one page only, if so would the page correspond to other pages in the site or does Getlandingpages.com create stand alone pages only?
I wondered how Getlandingpages.com's landing pages differed from website templates? Perhaps the ads are encoded?
The other consideration is the niche factor. How good is Getlandingpages.com in terms of understanding subtle nuances of niche marketing? Some niches are easier to market than others.

in My Yahoo hits the sweet spot! on Vinny Lingham's Blog
To tell the truth, I have not used a feed reader.
I usually go to http://www.newsnow.co.uk/ -- it's pretty good in terms of current events. Do you personalize your "My Yahoo" to subscribe to blogs and things like that?

in Google Landing Page Algorithm for PPC - Feedback on Vinny Lingham's Blog
Vinny,
Almost a year ago you wrote:
"By using dynamic keyword insertion, this also reduces your quality.”
I'd love a follow-up as an anniversary analysis.
So many people on an affiliate forum I frequent insist that Adsense is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I have always had my doubts!
So what's the word on *dynamic* keyword insertion?
Thanks!

"PPC is just immediate. You pay, you get traffic, you convert..."
That is an oversimplification: there's a lot of planning prior to "the immediate."
Any "newbie" who believes/follows the above "automatic example" as a typic model will be likely to lose his/her shirt.
I don't engage in PPC because my main domain has a very general name/theme.
I believe that PPC is more likely to convert for "the specific." I would think that a model of statistical analysis would be an important component of any PPC campaign. Experimentation probably follows a scientific slant with precision (as opposed to throwing mud against the wall to see what sticks *lol*)

Past performance is an indicator although it is not a guarantee of future performance. Google could trump Microsoft (this is where a deck of cards could come in handy). The crux of the article is in this line: "Google is the one micro factor that impacts macro trends."

Hi Vinny,
My post didn't show up (I was making a point about the Kyoto Protocol) -- the computer inserted a different e-mail address.
Sorry about that, hope it didn't cause any complications (some guys would think you're lucky -- you know all my e-mail addresses!)
