in Watch the Google anthill move toward social and real time on Scobleizer
The lack of a Facebook profile on the first page is easy -- fewer links pointing to it because most people have their profiles hidden.

Google sees all of the Twitter profiles and counts those thousands of links. Google doesn't see Facebook profiles for many people, thus killing the number of inbound links it thinks that page has. This is more of a problem with Facebook than with Google, I would think.

IamChrisLang It's too bad that the original Facebook / Google Friend Connect hook up failed. Combined with Digg as well this would have been a complete package. But you know, $260 million from Microsoft has a way of turning Facebook's head.

But like I have said before and certainly not the first one to say it, competition is a good thing. The entire Facebook Connect / Google Friend Connect / Microsoft very quiet war only makes them all stronger and more apt to produce their best work and we profit.

in Getting More Twitter Followers on The Friday Traffic Report
Another new technique that is popping up is to find people that auto-follow back and focus on them to start. Since you'll get (ideally) a 1-to-1 ratio in return, it's a great way to get started.

Social News Watch put out a list:
http://socialnewswatch.com/top-twitter-users/

That's since been turned into a few Twitter accounts to make it easier to follow those users:
http://twitter.com/autofollowbacks
http://twitter.com/autofollowlist

They're both based off the same list, though the first one (autofollowbacks) has been adding more and now has nearly 400 people in there. Seems like a pretty good technique.

in Twitter Client War: Twhirl vs. TweetDeck on Scobleizer
TweetDeck all the way, used in a similar manner as Scoble. I have an old XP laptop that's nearly dead (overheats, worthless battery, large vertical strip in the screen), but it's PERFECT for TweetDeck. I keep it on a cooling tray, plugged in, and line up the vertical dead zone to be between two columns in TD. Wonderful solution.

The Facebook app is very slick, Google Earth is a great one to show off, and Jott and WordPress are very handy. Looking forward to Nozbe coming out soon (GTD).

in Blogger Investment Advice on The Friday Traffic Report
I've seen that before, and I like it. However, I can't get past the $214 at the bottom. You'll get maybe 2000 cans/bottles of beer for $1000, depending on your tastes. Even with the $0.10 deposit in Michigan, that's only $200. And if you get the beer there, you won't get as much because you've got to pay that deposit up front.

For us down here in Georgia, we won't get squat for those cans. Still, fun little post.

in Run web apps in full-screen native app mode on the iPhone on VentureBeat
Yes, that's the only code needed. After you insert the code, load the page in Safari, add the icon to your home screen, then fire it from there. It should work.

in New Google AdSense for Feeds; a Pain in the Rear End on Marketing Pilgrim
Fair enough. I agree it's certainly a bigger deal than it needs to be, but I found it quite smooth. 20 second e-mail, 45 minute response, good to go.

As for the result -- $0.00 so far. :)

"Will you go through the manual process?" You make it sound like a big ordeal.

While I agree it's quite stupid that it needs to be done manually, it's a 20 second e-mail you need to send. Not a big deal.

in Upload from URL? on Fun with WordPress
Wow, what a great little tip! I had no idea you could do that.

I knew about the URL feature, but that just hotlinks the image. This actually pulls it down and crunches it. Nice!

in Would Someone Please Explain This To Me? on The Friday Traffic Report
Jack is correct. For the sake of simplicity, let's look at it as a 3x3 (9 possibilities) instead of a 5x5 (25 possibilities). It could easily be a 256 number puzzle, if you had 16 colors and 16 houses.

The choices:
Red: R1, R2, R3
Blue: B1, B2, B3
Yellow: Y1, Y2, Y3

Say we pick "B2" as our color, so we click blue. The system now knows that it's either B1, B2 or B3.

The groups now get split among the houses:

House 1: R1, B1, Y1
House 2: R2, B2, Y2
House 3: R3, B3, Y3

In our case, we choose house 2. Now the system knows that it's either R2, B2 ,or Y2.

The only one that came up in both clicks -- B2!

The other random clicks and doors and stuff are just for show. The bottom line:

- Your first click cuts the choices from 25 down to 5.
- The second click makes sure that the five remaining choices are in separate houses, so it'll know for sure which number is yours.

I hope that made sense.

in Sports tracker and Google Earth on Richard's Blog
Why do you need to send the KML to your laptop? When I use the N95 Sports Tracker, it uploads directly from my phone (before I even come back into the house). Then I can simply pull up their website and view the track in Google Earth/Maps.

in How many Google Reader subscribers do you have? on Scobleizer
Hi5 Codes -- You're being very short-sighted. If used properly, a good RSS feed will bring MORE visitors to your site. For example, I follow about 250 feeds and keep up with them every day. There is NO WAY I'd visit all 250 sites each day, but I happily click-through when I find a good item (such as the one we're on right now).

If your site found its way into my feedreader, I'd see ALL of your new content every day. Otherwise, I might visit your site once every x days, when I happen to think of it.

in How many Google Reader subscribers do you have? on Scobleizer
My main feed (Google Earth Hacks) is showing 92,592 in Reader. FeedBurner is showing a total of 94,080, so that's about right. Being a site about a Google product, I've long suspected that the vast majority were using Reader and/or iGoogle.
