Internet Explorer??? Since i opened FF for the first time, i never voluntarily opened IE. Unfortunatly, enterprises still feel a bit more secure with a Microsoft product and so i am obliged to use IE at work :)

Make no mistake my friend. SU business is based upon the toolbar and its functionality. Google's approach is very different. The dice feature is just a "side dish" in the toolbar, aimed to find out more about what we search in order to eventually help improving the real cash cow - the advertising network.

lol Sumesh, you answered to yourself.
PR = Site importance (and some might say quality) in Google eyes.
A site with low PR will have trouble in ranking well for high competitive keywords when competing with high PR websites that do know how to do SEO.
The outcome, in the medium to long run is a drop in search engines (namely Google) traffic for low PR web sites.
That's why i congratulated Dj Flush, who made the right move, and will continue to rank good for competitve terms.

Indeed registry manipulations are an advanced task, and thus i recommend to execute them cautiously after following the backup procedure i provided.
Also, be selective about when you edit the registry manually. There are multiple tweaks that can be made using utility such as TweakXP, TweakUI (for Windows XP) and TweakVI, and TweakVista (for Windows Vista), so preferably check those out before you edit the registry manually.

As far as laptop purchasing, i believe that you need to first determine what is the main usage. Will you be using it for browsing the web and editing your blog, or will you be running complex PC games also.
I would say that the processor (dual, i would say more than 7100 and 1.8 Mhz and the RAM memory (no less than 2 GB, so you'll be able to run Vista comfortably) are the more important factors. If you'll be gaming i will also look into a fast video adaptor. Make sure that you have a built-in wireless network card as well. As far as the Hard disk, a 80GB (that you'll later split into two partitions) will be ok.

You have a point. Although i still believe there's a bit of an over hype going on around this guy. I lived in South America for years, and i have seen such young players in the past and thus i believe that although uncommon in the more developed countries, such virtuous skills are more common in South America.
Also, i am sure you agree that this guy's real test will be once he is 16 and starts to train with the United main team (See Leo Messi's case, that had a tough 1-2 years until he made it to Barca's opening 11).

Welcome to the CI team.
No doubt that some of your ideas sound logical and valid. However, i must tell you that i am a bit skeptical about your entire concept.
First to the raw facts:

1. Google PageRank wasn't updated since 4.5 months, and thus the 3 months cycle between updates is not valid.
2. Google seem to be thinking on an update to their PageRank mechanism which will value content and internal linking more than external linking. If the PR algo will change, the method you proposed is invalid.

Now let's focus on the business:

What's the underlying business model for this venture? Do you want to grow all those web sites PR for selling links exclusively (note that you might get banned by G, and then it will be tough to sustain the achieved PR)? Do you want to grow the PR and then sell the domain (not a bad idea)? In any case, I don't believe that the method you propose will help you achieve sustainable traffic and revenue.

To wrap it up, i would recommend our readers to use some of the methods you proposed in order to grow traffic. However i wouldn't adopt your entire startegy, as it won't yield sustainable (and defensible) revenue.

My 0,02. In any case, interesting article.

If you still want the YM functionality avaialable why don't you try Pidgin? It will not only allow you to access YM, but also provide you a good email notifier. If you just need email notifications, go for either ePrompter or Multi Notifier (which is leaner as far as resources is concerned, but provides an acceptable feature set).

I fully agree with Martin than 300_250 and 336_280 are the most converting.
Tip 1 is a bit risky. Adsense is the main money maker of many blogs and until this sort of implementation is not officially approved, i won't recommend anyone to try it. As far as tip 2 - It's a good idea, buit need to be wisely implemented.

Thilak, you are spot on witht he privacy issue.
I would add also the fact that applications might not work correctly if required components are upgraded. Take for example the Java Runtime environment. Applications using it are not automatically certified to run on 1.6, and end-users are not capable to determine what to upgrade and what not.

all your picks are important features. From the list you referred to, I would add message personalization (setting backgrounds).
Another feature i would like to see is the ability to work offline (like Outlook). This can be achieved by developing a Desktop Gmail version capable of doing the synch with the online version, while web connectiviy is available.

Thilak: I used the POP3 synch in the past, and found its setup and operation somehow cumbersome. Although, as you pointed out correctly, there is a method to work offline, i feel that a Desktop application by Google, that will allow to natively interact with Gmail on the road might be great.

Right point Thilak. IMHO, all ventures adding value to youtube or similar web sites are doomed to fail due to the copyrights issue. I also don't really understand Arrington's invovement with this web site. He might be an investor there, otherwise i can't understand the fact he promotes a service which is built on a basically illegal behaviour.

My take on that is that this seem to be a trick that Dell are doing in order to enhance their pressure on one of their main suppliers - Microsoft. It's evident they want to introduce a new certified OS, this in order to enjoy a better pricing agreement with MS.
