I think it is shortsighted to make the claims about Starbucks. In the presentation Steve said it is going to take quite a while to get the systems installed in stores across America (let alone the rest of the world..) - they can announce song purchase now but I'm sure the hardware they are installing will include the capability to do much more when they are ready to switch it on.

Great idea, but with twitter we are counting the uptime not the downtime lately so I'm not sure I would want to rely on it for stuff like this.

I use Twitter to talk with the wonderful strangers of the world, and Facebook to talk with people I've met in person. It's working well so far.

I would expect that Google takes a huge amount of care with the data. If a box here or there goes missing then you can reprocess the original data as long as you have it, and all you have are minor downtime issues.

I would expect that as there is more confusion and concern about the industry that more people would go online to find a better deal? Therefore, more clicks, more revenue.

Facebook is my new Contact List. Forget MSN Messenger (yeah, us aussies are big on it) - when Facebook releases instant messaging I think we'll see a big migration in that direction.

Twitter is just a different beast for me. I just can't see MOST of my friends using it. Maybe it was integrated into their phones it could work, but lets face it, unless it is somehow connected to the iPhone mobile stuff just hasn't really taken off yet.

Cleaning up the information inputs is the big new years resolution. It is going to be drastic this time :S I think a light diet of rss SU could be just the fix for the hundreds of feeds in my reader that I'm about to delete.

Throw out the kitchen timer Tim, doesn't your mobile phone have "Offline" mode? Or "Flight Mode" maybe? It turns off the antenna so you won't get ANY calls or messages, leaving your phone alarm clock to do its job by itself :)

I actually saw the book in Australia and it had a couple with balloons on the cover and looked terrible, and the paper and print was terrible - to be honest I had to read through a bit to check that it was the same book because I never would have bought it in that state and I didn't really want to recommend it to friends.

I'm so glad I got the version in your blog header because it really does make a big difference to the reading experience - why does the cover change in each country?

Sure you can have a blog and announce stuff on it, but the huge benefit of going to a conference is the people you meet. Blog comments and email just can't replace a face to face conversation. So, spend those bucks!

If you think about how much of your life is already online adding another aspect to the mix probably isn't that damaging. If my internet ever goes down I go out and get some sunshine for the rest of the day because I know I probably won't be as productive offline.

There is a page somewhere around the blogosphere that links to a place where you can set a cookie so that none of the websites with snap preview work on your browser. Very handy!

I just discovered the "track" feature and I think a mix between that and following people could be good. I tracked the earthquake in England a few days ago and it was really fascinating because so many people were talking about the same topic. Following people I like is another way to increase the signal vs noise ratio, but people don't talk 100% about a certain topic, sometimes they just have to mention their cat. At the same time, if I track a keyword and somebody doesn't use that exact keyword I miss it..

Having followers is cool because you can start an instant active conversation on a topic, but following is cool because you discover stuff passively.

I'm a MAYBE for now, but hopefully I figure it out.

Bloglines works great for me, but I guess you need to be online for it. I can't stand the Google Reader but I find Bloglines usable.
