Not sure how well that's working for them this time. I believe I just read that 81 percent of Americans in some poll think that Obama is being non-partisan--which, considering that at least 20 percent think he's a communist or Muslim terrorist (or at least say that because they don't want to use the "n" word) is about as close to perfect success as he's likely to get....

There seems to be a general agreement that things are getting ugly at BC, though, as Lorelei's post makes clear, strong disagreement about who's causing the trouble and who the victims of it are.

Personally, I'll stand up for Timethief, who I think is one of the more rational and intelligent people on the forums; if she sometimes blows up, it's because of some of the more passive agressive members of the community who make incredibly offensive sexist, racist, and homophobic remarks or try to use the forums to evangelize the rest of us, and then put on an "I didn't mean to be controversial" mask whenever anyone attempts to point out what they're doing (and let's just say that at least one of them is mentioned favorable in Loralei's post). And, though he's perhaps a bit more mischievous, I would say essentially the same for Voodookobra. As for me, I've felt goaded into making a few ad hominem attacks as well in recent weeks, and, for that reason have mostly been keeping away (out of disapproval for both my behavior and that of those doing the goading).

That in mind, I don't mean to start a fight with poisonapplesauce here. Though I seem to disagree with her on most things, I've never found her to be anything but respectful of others in the forums. Nonetheless, I'm sorry to see the personal attacks in her blog post.

How ironic for someone who so shamelessly whores himself to the Republican party as James Dobson to so cynically define "great moral issues" as those related to what people do in the bedroom, while his powerful friends wage endless war and do everything they can to feed the greed of the ultra-wealthy. "Christians" like him should make any person at all concerned with morality sick.

Yasriel, have you ever even heard of science? If the Bible and Koran, and the world as understood millennia ago, are all one knows, your questions make sense. Otherwise, they sound like those of a small child who doesn't understand what the sky is, or anything about biology, or that nothing in the Bible or Koran has been shown to be 100% accurate, or that those who have most deeply studied the world around them instead of keeping their noses in their holy books, have found reasons to question those holy books, rather than any evidence of their "truth."

While I'm definitely in the category of for Obama/Biden as well as against McCain/Palin, I'm with you on Stewart--the smartest, most honest person on TV but such a wide margin it's ridiculous. (The only person comes close would of course have to be none other than Stephen Colbert).

In response to a previous commenter: it's clear you didn't have the opportunity to "just enjoy the trip and not analyze it in a negative way," since the trip as organized involved not just taking in the beauty of the country and its people, but taking in fundamentalist indoctrination.
