in Palin’s Dereliction of Politics Over Principle on Caffeinated Thoughts
Lyla is on to something. People do indeed forget politicians are people - but for good reason. They are so pre-conditioned with talking points and being P.C., it's almost as if they are androids.

So, why not? Just pretend Palin was "Weekend at Bernie's" and stage her however the GOP wanted. She finally grew a backbone and split. Split the spotlight, the cameras and the tabloids.

I suppose we'll see what happens with her in 2.5 years. Although I don't think it will matter, I'm sure she will be back giving Lens Crafters all the love in the world.

in Why I Wear A Dress To Church on Caffeinated Thoughts
OK, OK. A couple of ruminations from the cheap seats:

1. I read CT from the top, down. So, I thought Shane was the one wearing a dress to church and I was reconsidering ever posting here again. Then, I thought my brother here needed more prayer than the national debt, so I stayed... then found out there's a sister in here plying her craft. Imagine my relief?!

2. Colleen, welcome to Shane's world in here. You'll do just fine.

3. I'm with Andy, and my man Wickle, a bit here. One on hand, I think many people suit up for church as a way to keep up with the Joneses. Church has become social hour in the land of good and evil and for folk to think just because your suit jacket looks more like a trenchcoat, you are suddenly sanctimonious is almost sacrilege. (How's that for alliteration?)

4. I agree with you though. People just seem to have this "Aw, shucks" approach to Jesus that never used to exist sans "Seeker sensitive" nation showed up. Sometimes, it shows a little respect to shave for church... face or legs, depending on who's writing the post, I suppose.

5. To be candid, I suit up most of the week. Those wingtips hurt my corns and I use Sunday's to chill. C'est la vie. :)

Peace,
HiScrivener

Michele Shepherd I agree largely with your post here, HiScrivener. BUT, I think both sides are missing a large part of the real issue here and that is judging one another. Those who necessarily can "afford heels and a skirt" as noted earlier should never cast a judgment on those who can't and those who are so defensive in their stance of "wear-what-you-want-otherwise-you-are-trying-to-impress-others", ought to recognize their strain of judgment as well.

How about none of us look around while at church rather look up to the one we are worshiping and be comfortable how we came--skirts and jeans alike? I know that I won't be able to wear jeans to church and will teach my kids about dressing for the occasion no matter what. Just a few extra thoughts...
Coleen Sharp Thanks for your comments. I got a good laugh.

The truth is... you're all right.

1. We don't really need a building, because the Church is us... not the house.
2. But then again, we do. You know, the rain and the cold causes worship to chafe.
3. Making a house of God can be a modest 1850 square-foot home, not the beachfront 9,500 square-foot temple. Who builds that: man or God? Or man's ego thinking he is just that deserving of God?

Nice post. Thanks for this!

You know, on the shoulder is expected. Girl kicked Ken to the curb, got tired of being Molly Homemaker, she gets a sweet vette and skedaddles to her second home in Malibu.

Now give O' girl a "tramp stamp" and I'm picketing Mattel and refusing my lil' Wall Watcher from ever shopping the Barbie aisle again. :)

My God, My God!

You are a brave, bold man. If I showed the afro-ridden, half-baked cat who was in my Senior picture, "The Writing on the Wall" would have a demolition ball hurled at it with the quickness of the rapture. I just can't even bare it.

You, sir, have moxie!

Happy birthday, my hero. :)

I might have to agree with frequency. There's a gaggle of you Jesus-loving folk in here. On "The Writing on the Wall", it's just me [married with kids and a load of other things to do] but I crank out daily morsels of cyber unleavened bread.

Maybe I just can't sleep, but what you guys create is great to read. I would like a little more.

in The Coming Evangelical Collapse on Caffeinated Thoughts
There is a lot of truth in this.

If you ascribe to dispensationalism, this time has been coming for some time now, as we are now into "progressive dispensationalism." You can see it coming... that pale, white horse, that is.

This culture is progressing into a humanistic arena for social Darwinism. Man is learning to only trust thyself and has no shame for persecuting Christians or lambasting God with their vitriol.

Good thing another word for this dispensation is called "GRACE" because this world sure needs a lot of it. How much is left until "KINGDOM" and "ZIONIC" dispensation shows up? Well, ask the horse when you hear a trumpet.

Peace, Shane. Nicely done, brother.

in Prayer for Obama on Think Christian
My prayer is that all the rhetoric he hurled in the direction of the Church will not be wasted, but optimized. He wanted our vote, and it seems he got it. Now, what he will do with it is the responsibility of a lifetime. Let God be your guide, and the whole world will applaud you.

in El Rushbo Hits Obama Back on Caffeinated Thoughts
Dana brings up a salient point, and so do you, Shane (as usual).

1. Rush isn't about instigating change across party aisles; he is about starting a wildfire in his party and then parking his car along that political divide and pouring gasoline all over it.

2. To that end, Rush is arguably the most politically astute pundit on the planet. HE knows everything about what is happening on the Hill, and anyone planning to get in a debate with that man better pack a lunch.

3. And then, the BarackStar wouldn't be out of his league if he could his teleprompters with him. Heck, even disciples of that man think his oratory skills are off the charts (they are), but his rote memory could use some work.

Hrm. Let's see...

What I thought about the prayer: http://hiscrivener.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/gob...

It was much better than expected, but still underwhelming. And he seemed to enjoy saying his daughters' names waaay too much. IJS.

What I thought about the event: http://hiscrivener.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/gob...

Maybe Rev. Lowery would enjoy reading that, and uh, I have a Crayola 64 box for him to wax poetic if he still feels frisky.

in A Magician’s Christian Encounter on Think Christian
The number one reason for Atheism in this country is Christians.

We can be a pretentious, megalomaniacal and deplorably rude people. Don't believe me? Go into any restaurant on a Sunday, bring some popcorn and enjoy the show.

I get what he is saying, but those are the rotten stereotypes that malign an entire body of people. The Christians we all know are caring, passionate and above all, real. But you don't get stories about them unless blogospherical addicts like us tell those stories.

You know, because the media sure isn't.
SiarlysJenkins True. But Dr. Dobson is always hogging the media's attention with some obscure hysterical preoccupation, etc., and claiming to possess the key to what REAL Christianity is. The sad thing is, in his real calling, faith and family, he is quite good. If we could all keep a little more perspective on what we are, and are not, called to do, we would look a lot better, even in the media.

Well, well... what fodder this gives me. Eh-hem...

1. Mr. Vanderhart...er...uh...Shane, nice line to Jimbo about the tiny URL

2. Everyone! Let's give Ricky some credit. He said, "every beautiful woman." At least, he isn't going around scavenging trailer parks for those toothless beauties. Something has to be said about having taste. Right?

3. Steve, you bring up a salient point, but it's the way you are posing it that has given the liberal left fits for decades. Homosexuality is a sin, and God doesn't prioritize various sins. However, man does... and loving a person of the same sex isn't anywhere the same vile behavior as finding romance with a horse, or said 12-year old boy. Just a pontification there.

4. Lukewarm pablum has its place for the lost, and then discipleship must take over. The genius Rick Warren displayed on TV was proof why. Nicely done, Pastor.

My turn (GASP):

1. "Santa Christ"?! Am I the only one who laughed at that?

2. SocietyV said it something to the fact of: Christians is the reason Santa gets the love he does during this season. Nah, everyone does. St. Nick is great for atheists because God is kept out of the picture. He is good for ALL PARENTS because that whole kid surprise thingy. And...

3. Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Oden, Tinte Klaus, whatever (and yeah, it's good to know the whole story of the patron saint of sailors) is marketing genius! If you want to blame someone upset Christian, blame Coca-Cola. If it wasn't for this company brandishing the fat jolly man with a cool bottle of Coke in the 50s, I doubt we would be talking about this today. This country loves great marketing, and largely, is a sucker for slick advertising as well. Maybe P.T. Barnum was right after all.
