Well color me confused, you're a fan, you have come to support her, you find the negative comments funny, you're not really invested, you don't care if mary acts inappropriately, but you do care when strangers do.

are you "invested" in this site and what Mary says? yikes.
why would does anyone "care" if Mary acts inappropriately? because she is the only one who blogs and doesn't act the same way they do? the fact that you could prepare a list detailing reasons why people care about a freaking free hotel room says all we need to know about you - talk about bitterness. i hope you find peace in your own life so, even if someone gets a free hotel room, you won't find it so infuriating.

Look, you can try to police the internet, but I doubt you will have much luck with it. I do find it interesting that you admit you only respond to the negative ...one would think if you were trying to promote positive energy then that's what you would focus on.
Try your own remedy and don't read the negative comments.
BTW, when mary blogged about another blogger being a bitch because she corrected mary for giving wrong street names [and mary was wrong], or when she posted a picture of a woman [her face completely recognizable] and made fun of the purse she was carrying at a party--did you jump in and stand up for those people?
Like I said, policing the internet, pretty hard to do.

not policing the internet, because again, that would require me to care a bit more about any of this...i read the negative comments, because honestly, they are funny in that whole pathetic way i guess. and i really don't care that deeply about what mary does, positive or negative. i could care less if she calls someone a bitch or makes fun of someone with a purse.

I have to agree with Lydia, even though you constantly remind your readers that you are brutally honest and you would NEVER give a favorable review if you absolutely did not like something has little to do with your actual transparency.
I have to say, when I am determining whether I like something one of the first things I think of IS HOW MUCH DID I PAY FOR IT ? In the case of a hotel room, I definately like free ones more than ones that I pay for.
This whole --word of mouth-- social networking is like scientology....I copied some of the literature from Affinitive [which I believe you are very familar with] on promoting hotels within the world of --word of mouth--networking:

I am personally curious about your affiliation with the social media marketing company Affinitive. Your canned statements like "You know that when I find something I like (food, beauty products, spinning!, etc), I tend to talk about it a lot. That's just my nature." sound straight from a sales pitch. I'd like to know how many of these brands you just "find" on your own and how many of them are fed to you by PR and marketing companies. It seems like even when you say something like "I received this product free from a PR company" the line is still very blurry on other things (like your previously undisclosed affiliation with the hotel).
Please know that I am not attacking you - I am genuinely curious about this topic and how it applies to the new frontiers of advertising and social media. People need to know what's an advertisement and what's not, and when your blog sometimes seem like one looong advertisement (you talking about brands you like personally AND the brands you get freebies from) then the line becomes blurred.

Wow. You've mentioned Hotel Zaza in FOURTEEN different entries on your blog and one tweet is the only disclosure you've offered? Bad move, Mary. To build trust with your readers, it's very important to be up front and honest with them about sponsorships or the things you get for free or at a discount. Otherwise, you just look like a shill.
It does not matter whether you give the product a positive review or not - the point is to DISCLOSE that you have a relationship with them. You've come under fire for this before and put disclosures on your other blog posts about beauty products and what not, so I am not sure why you didn't on any of the dozen hotel posts before this one.
Some people might come here and say "what's the big deal?" or "why is everyone attacking Mary?" or "but magazines do it..." but the fact is, Mary's blog is not a magazine, it IS a big deal and going to become an even bigger deal as blogs come under increasing scrutiny from the FCC.

I used to do that actually because I couldn't always get the pictures out of my red eyes. Then I would get emails about how I was trying to hide my hair or something.

This is not the warm and fuzzy blog you and mascarah claim it to be. Mary has defined herself in the internets as someone that believes abortions are like botox. Michelle is Obama's Little lady, colonics are a great way to spend a tuesday, and other attrocities in opinion that I am loathe to type.
Yeah, you're not entitled to tell me what I should question.
Nor do you or any of the six people that support her have the right to tell me or anyone else not to come here. Do you not get that? If you want to make a brand of yourself, supporting this silly ass blog cause is sooooo the wrong way to go.

So I am not as fortunate as Mary, I have to work for a living, and my family has it tough too, one of my pleasures is that I have internet.
I should not be brutally honest? Mary states all the time that she is brutally honest. Mary has not had a problem telling a designer that she does not like their designs. Mary has called people names on the internet. (I think calling someone a bitch qualifies as mean) Mary got drunk and screamed a voicemail message [which I believe you would find mean] on the internet, some think it was just for page views, but it was definatly mean, and that is ok?
This sounds like drunk Mary commenting under Brittney's name.

Do you seriously think that this broad doesn't work? You have no fucking idea what goes on behind the scenes of ANY internet business. While you're busy "working for a living", Mary is an IT department, a writer, a designer, a web curator, a PR rep, and a HUMAN.
I also love your highly adult "She did it so I can do it!" mentality. Keep that up! Seems to be working out for you.
