in The Founder Factory: Where Phillypreneurs Came Together on the green skeptic
"He also used the example of some great world monuments many of which, including the Eiffel Tower and Golden Gate Bridge, were being built during earlier recessions"

This was the most powerful and impactful illustrations of the day. Even in hard times the cream still rises to the top.

greenskeptic Definitely a powerful message and consistent with what Lucinda and others said...and what Paul Graham of Y Combinator said in his "Why to Start a Startup in a Bad Economy": http://www.paulgraham.com/badeconomy.html

SO, what are you waiting for?

in Who wants to watch me break a World Record at Pat's & Geno's this Weekend? on DavidSpeers.com
We did it! 24hr and 17 minutes to take the World Record. Now we have to submit the documentation to Guinness and wait for the official word. It wasn't easy and I don't think I'll be doing again any time soon, but I had a great time bonding with the other 6th St Mission volunteers and sleeping for 17hrs straight when it was all said and done!

Kate, thanks for the quick and thorough reply. Before I wrote this post I went to your website to get some details on how Jott works but I couldn't find anything anywhere. After typing in "How Jott works" into Google I found a couple different articles that confirmed that Jott uses outsourced translators in India, including the article I cited above from Venture Beat. As a Jott user, I don't have a problem with using outsourced translators (provided they are not being exploited which I'm sure is not the case), I think this article is more of reaction to how I found out how Jott works. In the film Soylent Green there is a veil of obscurity behind the source of the 'advanced' food, a similar and obviously more malicious veil than that which seems to be obscuring the source of Jott's advanced transcribing abilities.

in Add Equal Parts Business and Culture. Blend until Smooth. on Alex Hillman Writes Here
I think one of the misconceptions with co-working is that it's a long term solution for everyone. I work in Indy Hall . . . correction . . . I love working in Indy Hall but I don't anticipate being there five years from now. As a narrowly defined 'work space' it's not the end game for me. Will Indy Hall still exist if I'm not working there every day? Most assuradly yes! Will I still be a part of the culture and community? If I still have a pulse the odds are looking good (sorry if I sound like a magic eight ball I hate to sound like a prophet that kids himself into knowing the outcome of an one thing). For many of us co-working spaces are harbors of hope where we EXPERIENCE what it can be like to work with like minded individuals who are committed to making life better for ourselves and our community one web app/web site/icon/logo/social network/day at a time. It's a place to get your head on straight before the dizziness of success tries to spin it off, because hard working smart people will deal with have to deal with success at some level at some point. Is co-working a long term solution? In a sense no, not for many individuals (I'm sure there will be some exceptions to the rule). But rest assured it still has it's long term place in culture and society. As long as there is an inventor/entrepreneur/designer/programmer/whatever that needs a small space to get started, to do his thing, and the community to support his pie in the sky ideas there will be a need for co-working. Thank God for Indy Hall, it changed my life :-)

Love the concept! Giving clients a super simple road map of your principles and process in your branding is not only brilliant it's effective. I hope you guys are ready for the onslaught of new clients, because they're coming.

in Ultra Hiking on The Poverty Jet Set
Awesome vid! I'm about to buy a bunch of new equipment and was thinking about going 'Ultra Light'. I don't know how well just pitching a tarp without bug netting will work here on the east coast, especially in the spring/early summer when all the bugs are out.

Another inspiring backpacker is Karl Bushby (http://goliath.mail2web.com/). Karl has been hiking since 1998 in his attempt to hike around the world on foot. This past winter he WALKED ACROSS THE BERING STRAIGHT when it briefly froze over. What an amazing life! Man I need to get out of the city.

in Recollecting BlogPhiladelphia on Colin Devroe
Hey Bro,
Highlight of running the video interviews: Colin pimping the Viddler t-shirt on the Ziddio sponsored blogger interview. Can't wait to see that online! Make sure you and Rob make frequent trips back to Philly, we seem to have to much alcohol for just us.
