Very nice. I feel kinda violated after getting my SX10IS and seeing this though.

So if the kids dashed out the door in the middle of the night, you'd just wander off to bed letting them stay out to play? o_O

I just renewed my license plate and registration today. Unfortunately, I had to get an updated operator's license as well. This ran me $112US, which was well more than the quoted price on the renewal notice. Oh well, I'll survive.

There are indeed kind people in the world. There are also people who don't reply to e-mail. *ahem*

in Car Tax on Matt's Journal
I was hoping to win the lottery last night: $270 million US.
I'm in a similar situation this next month with my car, as the license plate is due for renewal. I'll be registering with the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles, which means changing to a different county. I'm praying that the taxes for this county are lower, but since it has a higher population I'm not expecting much.

in Gmail Spam on Matt's Journal
Since I am the admin of the server where my e-mail is hosted, I have a lot more control over it.
I have been keeping all my spam in a specific folder in my IMAP tree, then using the 'sa-learn' command at a shell prompt to teach Spam Assassin what is spam. So far, it's been pretty productive, but I am still getting a fair amount of junk.
We've been seeing this at work too, so don't feel like you're the only one. You're not /that/ special! :P

in I’ll Sack Them on Matt's Journal
When I was managing the quick lube, I got called at 3:00AM one night by the boss. She received a call from the alarm company that the alarm had been set off, so I had to go check the shop out. She told me that there would be a city police officer there waiting for me.
So I rolled out of bed, went to the shop, and nobody was there. I went on in, dealt with the alarm company's call and checked the shop over to make sure nothing was out of place.
As I was leaving, after about 20 minutes, a police officer pulled up out front of the shop. The bastard wouldn't get out of his car, but still asked me for my ID and whatnot, and asked if anything was wrong with the building. I was pissed: What if someone was hiding in the pit of the shop? The officer wouldn't have done anything about it.
Needless to say, I don't have a lot of respect for the police force back there.

in Legality - Conclusion (Or is it?!) on Matt's Journal
You should at least explain to them that you were not informed of what it was or how it would be used until after your ID was scanned, and therefore you demand some sort of compensation.

in Finally! Some Holiday! on Matt's Journal
Welcome to the U.S.A., where all holidays have become a commercial event. The true meaning of every holiday has been killed, and now it's just about spending lots of money, eating a lot, and being with family. Not that the latter is a bad thing, but do you even know what the true meaning of Easter is?

Everyone here has been trying to get one. My boss spent several hours on the phone the other day, calling the various electronics stores to locate one. I know of one person to have one, too.

in Not well.. on Matt's Journal
Something I've learned from the nefarious sorts that gravitate towards me is that pineapple juice is a great way to flush toxins from your system. I've known people to drink large amounts of it before to pass a drug test they would otherwise have failed.
I've tried it myself when I've been sick, and while it is hard to drink that sort of thing when you're not feeling well, it does work rather well.
