Hi Nick,
good post. In reference to a client that will automatically shorten url's, I have started using snitter. It is an Adobe Air App so it is cross platform and built in it has a nice url shortener for you to use. It is quite nice, lots of keyboard shortcuts, etc
regards,
jimmy

in What are we doing when we Twitter? on Mathew's comments
Mathew,
I agree, I have gotten a lot more just from Twitter than from FB and found a lot of things I would have not otherwise seen.
As for your references to weak ties, I read a book recently called "Linked: The New Science of Networks" by Albert-Laszlo Barabasi. He looks at all types of networks, social and otherwise. He draws a similar conclusion to the weak ties. He looked at how we get job leads and referrals and found that contrary to what we would assume, many of these come from those weak links on the edge of our social networks, not our close in ties.
Great piece.
Happy New Year

in Creating a Mini-Valley in D.C. on Social Times
Heh Nick,
First thanks for including me in this group. I do think we are on the cusp of something pretty cool in the area and I hope to not only help advocate it, but I also hope to be a part of it. As we spoke about the other day, I am in process of getting the final touches on a product I hope to launch in the next 30-45 days (www.mydropbin.com)
Second, I am absolutely looking forward to the events you are putting together and can't wait till they come around. Let me know what we can do to help in any way.
Have a safe and Happy New Year
regards
jimmy

in Merry Christmas from me and the Queen on Mathew's comments
Morning Mathew,
I saw this the otehr day and also thought it was pretty cool. (http://tinyurl.com/2ekfmk)
To me, it is always good when an institution as old as the monarchy sees the value in adopting new technology. Now the entire "empire" so to speak is able to page through their rich history and see it at the same time, all within reach of their desktop/laptop.
Have a great holiday
