in Six million ways to die: choose one on Fun with WordPress
Great post Andrew.

As you may have noticed, I have taken a break from most things WordPress (okay, all things). This would be the perfect time for me to jump to something new. However, WordPress is what I know best, and I'm hesitant to try new things until they are "forced" upon me.

in Plugin Competition on Fun with WordPress
I have some ideas...

1. A CMS type tool here it only allows authors to edit certain categories, posts, and pages.
2. A featured comment tool where a blogger can mark one as more important than the other. Then have a template tag where a blogger can show the featured comments for a post.
3. Have a white-list where a commenter has unfiltered comments, is never moderated, and never checked for spam.
4. Port Vivtiger Image Resizer over to 2.5 (not an easy task)
5. An author management tool where you can allow authors of multiple blogs add bios, pictures. Have a template library to customize the author page. Lots of potential here.

That's all for now.

in Your theme would be amazing if… on Fun with WordPress
@Ray,
The Mimbo Pro theme I'm using (see my link) does that I believe. And the script used (TimThumb I think) is opensource from ProThemeDesign.com.

@Andrew,
The thing I think a lot of themes lack is a decent sitemap and archive pages. I'd really like to see some innovation there and make the archives a resource rather than a place to dump old posts.

in Silence is golden on Fun with WordPress
Andrew,

I'd have to agree with Christoph here and say that the extra complexity might deter those who would use the plugin generator, which ideally I suppose would be those wanting a shortcut.

A possibility could be a structure option and have a basic and advanced option, but that would be much more work on your part.

As far as the 24 hour thing, I'm also with Chris on this. I foresee broken links and more broken links. However, I can see a potential for premium content to be used this way. Post it for 24 hours, and if you want indefinite access to it, pay for it.

in Link Controversy on Fun with WordPress
Now that I've seen your implementation, I quite like it. Not sure what'll happen with long URLs though :)

Maybe perhaps a little DOM implementation where when a user hovers over it, it changes into a clickable link.

in Link Controversy on Fun with WordPress
I'll definitely be following this and perhaps doing a quick case study on the potential of de-linking commenter's names in the section.

It's a good idea in a sense of eliminating do-follow and no-follow from the equation.

in A blog by any another name on Fun with WordPress
One of my favorite Spanish blogs is titled, "Un blog sin tagline". Which is, "A blog without a tagline."

On my personal blog I've struggled to name it, but I just used my domain name. Giving it a title would be like naming my apartment. But for RA Project, it would be more like naming a business or organization.

in Comment Fraud on Fun with WordPress
Hey Andrew,

Thanks for the post response. I, too, would prefer people use their real names rather than some SEO keywords, but I can tolerate the self-promotion scheme from time-to-time.

Again, thanks for the response. I've stumbled the post.

WordPress, wordpress, Wordpress, wp, wordPress, WP... :) All the same to me personally, but I still spell it WordPress.

pelf,
I've had issues with one of my hosts and the issue seems to be folder permissions. What step is yours failing at and are you using the automated version or the step-by-step version?

cyt,

What version of WordPress are you using? wp_enqueue_script only works on recent versions of WP (2.1+) I believe.

32 forms of linking truth.

I suppose some of these could be said for leaving comment as well. I'd rather link to someone because the content was relevant to a point I am trying to make.

I will definitely keep these in mind next time I link to someone from my site(s).

Andy Beard Ronald a lot of these most bloggers do to a small extent all the time, and you can fall into patterns of frequently linking to a smaller group of people because those are the ones who link to you the most, and who might be most aligned to your own point of view.

Even if you make a concious effort to link to some different people, I am sure a large number of the people you choose to link to might be in some way "payback" because you have noticed them linking to you in the past.

Many of these characteristics are a positive thing for whatever your point of view is, because it can inherently grow critical mass to a certain way of thinking.

As an example it is very rare for me to link out to blogs which aren't using some kind of dofollow because a lot of my feed reading time is now spent in the dofollow community I created.

Thank you for mentioning the RA Project plugin here. Please let me know if you have any issues with it since (as you mentioned) it is a rather young plugin.

Thanks for the interest in the plugin. I hope it works out for you.

I'm not sure how Devlounge tracks visitors. I know AJ uses Mint, so that filters out a lot of the bots and spiders.

Again, thanks for the mention.
