Jan's comments rock me to the core as a leader. My heart longs for this from my leaders and at the same time I feel the burden of loving my staff this deeply and honestly. So profound!

in Leadership… Really? on BetterThanBlank
Alex, your post is so ironic...
Here's a quote I read this morning in Ruth Haley Barton's book "Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership" (which I highly recommend):

"the choice to lead something, to orient your life toward some vision or ideal and to lead in that direction, opens you up to a world of pain that you might not otherwise have to face."

I don't really know why the pain is so prevalent in leadership, but I'm learning it's part of the cost... "to whom much is given much is required".

Thanks for always challenging and inspiring in this area!

Alex, I really appreciate the way that you are approaching this subject. It seems that your heart is set on understanding what God's word has to say rather than denominational rules or cultural norms.

I'm going to tell you that as a female church leader I too am grappling with this subject. Like you, I grew up in church environments where women were not elders, did not teach in the main services, etc. I accepted some of these limitations without learning and studying for myself. I don't feel like I have found complete clarity on this subject yet, but I have committed this year to some intense study on the subject.

One of the best resources that I've studied so far is Gilbert Bilezilkian's book "Beyond Sex Roles". I blogged about it at: http://jennicatron.tv/2008/04/22/women-in-churc...

Thanks for engaging the subject!

Great stuff and so true. We are having a lot of these conversations these days asking ourselves the tough questions about who do we need to be listening to that's younger than us... and our leadership team are all mostly in their 30's! Not that old, but still old enough to be disconnecting from the 20 somethings.

I wish I could join you all today! Please pray for 25 people who are in the Dominican Republic with Cross Point Church (Nashville). They are working on the feeding center and church that we are building in Santiago.

Thanks Los! (BTW - I have the Maxwell Leadership Bible too and I love it.)

in It’s Slow on brent(inWorship)
I had to set some boundaries for myself AND because I needed to set an example for my staff since most of them blog. We would never get any work done!

My personal rules are:
1) No posting at work (unless I'm there after hours or unless the post is specifically vision casting or updates about Cross Point)
2) I respond to comments/approve comments at work as needed
3) I have a few ministry related blogs that I'll read during work because they are work related

The lines can get a little fuzzy but this helps some.
