in Rescue Rope on Wallyhood
Unfortunately someone did jump. I didn't see anything in the news about it, though I guess that's not unusual.

There was something on the Seattle livejournal group about it, though I hesitate to link to it since it has its share of pretty insensitive comments. Here's the most useful one though:

King County's 24/7/365 crisis hotline is 206 461 3222, toll-free at 866 427 4747.

in Fourth of July Chaos on Wallyhood
Also, tangentially related I guess, don't forget the annual 4th of July speed trap at the north(bound) end of the Aurora bridge around 40th. Nearly every year the SPD and/or state patrol set up there and pull over every single speeder.

What am I missing here? There might not have been much to be done if he was "only" taking pictures from the sidewalk or some public place, but if he was actually inappropriately touching children why didn't anyone call the freakin' police? Maybe the guy is registered or has outstanding warrants or whatever and they could have done something about him.

in Zoo Tunes Kid Drop-off on Wallyhood
That does seem like a cheap babysitter (at least for 1 or 2 kids) including the food and getting to touch a turtle or whatever.

I haven't ever actually been to one of these things, but I thought they were intended to be some sort of family friendly thing. Though I guess surely taking a 7 year old to see Emmylou Harris et al. would be an exquisite sort of torture for everyone involved.

in Archie McOpen! on Wallyhood
No liquor store anymore. Archie's had/has a sign out front with directions to the nearest, which, ironically, may be the Ballard one on Market a little ways past Archie's former location down by the locks. There's also one at U-Village over by the QFC (west of it.)

What I can't wait to see is the line down to Molly Moon's on the weekends before Halloween and Christmas.

in Interesting Open House on Wallyhood
There's a house on Winslow (a block east of 99 at about 43rd) going for 1.2 million. (Or, at least it was last week.) I don't really know how they compare, but I'm not thinking that one's going to sell either.

in Visit the site on Wallyhood
Strange. Back in the day I was all over programs like FreeAgent, etc. to deal with Usenet groups. In my mind these programs are a step or two up the tree from RSS. But, I've just never been able to get into using RSS. Every time I've tried I've always been frustrated with websites that don't send the whole article (understandable) or don't seem to update the feed often enough (frustrating, though maybe this is partly the...what do you call it reader?...I'm using.) I prefer to just go to the websites. Google toolbar's "Open in tabs" for bookmark folders is enough syndication for me.

in Avoid the lines, eat gelato! on Wallyhood
OK, I'll bite. Who is "David?" Dave Matthews?

The only celebrity I've ever seen in Seattle was Randy Johnson about 10 years ago at Big Time in the U-district. He and his wife? girlfriend? wandered in, looked at the menu, and left. I can understand their disappointment, of course. You don't go to Big Time for the food.

in Triploids acomin’ on Wallyhood
Triploid refers to the fact that they have 3 sets of chromosomes. Most animals have (or otherwise end up) with 2 sets of chromosomes--one from each parent. They're diploid.

Anomalies and exceptions abound of course.

By manipulating fertilized trout eggs you can dramatically increase the number of triplod trout you get. It would seem that one advantage of stocking the lake with triploid trout is they're sterile so things won't go horribly wrong invasive species-wise.

in QFC Update on Wallyhood
Doesn't Tutta Bella also have gelato?

And, are you talking about my Fred Meyer comment? I think maybe I sound like I hate the Fred Meyer more than the QFC. Or, maybe I hate all the nearby grocery stores in general which is probably closest to the truth. I know they're both owned by Kroger, but still, I stand by my belief that the Ballard Fred Meyer is horribly managed. Maybe others are better? The Aurora and the Lake City ones are just too far away, and the Lake City one is a bizarre freak show too. (Though that may be a plus if you find shopping too boring.)

I guess there's the Ballard Market. I've usually been pretty happy going there, but I usually only go for specific things I know they have, and it's a little on the pricey side too I think.

in QFC Expansionism on Wallyhood
I have a love/hate relationship with this store. On the one hand it's really convenient for me--if I take the right bus home from work it takes me right there. One the other hand it's expensive. The produce there is generally pretty good and usually plentiful, which leads me to...

Now the Fred Meyer down the way is way cheaper and also usually pretty good quality, but that store must be managed by monkeys. They hardly ever have stuff on sale on the shelves, or lots of produce items in general. And, don't get me started on that Ballard Safeway. If I want rotten produce I only have to look in my fridge--I don't need to buy it.

Ok, enough ranting.

Depends on the decision. If you are buying a car then the later is worse .. If you are choosing a date then the former is worse.

Watch out for those plantain chips. They're good, but they have significantly more fiber than, say, your average corn chip.

Miss Constance: Their website says that you still need Amazon Prime to get deliveries in 98103. You're sure you didn't sign up for a free Amazon Prime trial when you signed up for Amazon Fresh? They'll charge you in a month.

in Fresh on Wallyhood
I'd say most things are a little cheaper. Also the produce quality is very high. Which I think it kind of has to be since you don't get to pick it out. It's also pretty convenient.

2 things:

1. For free scheduled delivery (1 hour window) you have to spend at least $30. I don't think that's a big deal.

2. For 98103 people you have to join Amazon Prime which is $80/year. This is a much bigger deal I think if you don't order much from Amazon.

I don't know. I haven't decided if it's worth it or not. They don't really seem to have big sales that I've seen (they certainly don't advertise any) so you're not going to get, say, 68 cent/pound broccoli like you can at Fred Meyer this week. Also they don't really have much in the way of meat, so if you want that you're probably going to be going to the store anyway. I also like to buy bulk stuff whenever possible--forget that too.

Hopefully the south Wallingford Gasworks NIMBY complainers won't sink this thing too.

Wonder why they're not moving into the building on the SE corner (where Beso del Sol used to be). Looks like the entire building's empty - plenty of room for devil ducks. (mmmm.... Imagining an entire floor of the Mad Scientist department)

I'm really surprised that that place where the Rite-Aid used to be is still more or less the only condos there along 45th. I suppose there are bunches a block or two north here and there. I haven't ever really looked.

Still I think it will be a while before there are more. There's a condo/townhouse down Whitman from me that's been on the market for months (even after at least 3 price drops.) It's really convenient to Blue Video, and I'm sure has other pluses.

rudy117041, what do you mean 'aspect that isnt much needed', bass is one of the most important instruments in a band, havent you noticed how ALL bands have a bassist, bass gives the notes in a song body, if dragonforce didnt have any bass or any other band to that matter, the music would sound very hollow and empty.

Somehow after I converted it to AAC, i can't find the converted version below it. I just click the original mp3, where i adjusted the playing time, and click "show finder" and change the name to m3r, drag it out to desktop. But it doesn't work. How come the converted AAC don't show up? thanks.
