The entire point of Bush's Social Security plan is to fix it for people who don't make as much money as you or I do.  When Gore ran for president, he proclaimed that Social Security needed reform and if untouched it would become bankrupt.  That was Gore, who's just about as Democrat as you can get.  So how come now it's wrong, when a Republican is saying it?  I respect that you care about the rest of your family who don't make as much as you do...so do them a favor and stand up for a partially privated retirement plan, which is what the Congress and the Military have an option to enlist in.  Remember, this is an option.  *No one* is being required to do privatized Social Secutiy.  If you want to stay within the current plan, that's totally up to you.  It just gives people a choice.  That's all.  From one programmer to another, I respect you and hope that you can respect the decision to give people a choice.
