I know that feeling! When you've decided you're going the last few months are agony! I've never been on a trip as long as what you're planning though. You will see so many things!

I'm the same as you with sleeping in strange places, but once you've been on the road for a while you get used to it. If nothing else because you become so tired you just have to sleep! Hopefully you will find that too.

in What Are the Roots of Support for Palestine? on Intelligent Discontent
The "Holy Land" is the most contested piece of realty in the world - that's probably why no one looks at the Tamil tigers... no one wants to live on an island that might be flooded by rising sea levels. I consider the holy land a lot less holy because of all the squabbling that has happened because of its mere existence.

Before Roosevelt died, he talked with King Abdulaziz of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Because of the Saudis' unfaltering (secret) support of the Americans during WWII, Roosevelt told the King in a letter that he would not vote for the creation of an Israeli state without consulting the Arabs. FDR died; Truman came to power; the Holocaust was brought to light and *poof*! Some people thought it would be a brilliant idea to give the Jews a nice big chunk of desert that they had never seen before. So European Jews are shipped off to take over a land that was never theirs (sure, their "ancestors'" had it thousands of years ago, but they were European). Now, all the people who were born there are natives, and that can't be disputed. But since the US uses Israel as a watchdog for the area, that might stir some bitterness in the hearts of Arabs who are distrusted by the west. The whole situation is so complicated, but I am 100% for the Palestinians.

in If there were trains, would you ride them? on Intelligent Discontent
but if our train system were developed, wouldn't that be awesome? it takes my friend in chicago one hour to commute to class. it would only take a little more than that to get to another city out here.

the long distance bus system is ridiculous. i took a bus ride back from chicago, and there were ridiculous delays and cancellations. montanans are pretty low on the list of americans with high incomes. trains would save a ton of money over time, and benefit the populated part of the state. that's why current trains in montana are so expensive - they're in the middle of nowhere, so you have to pay to actually get there.

i second the question. a letter to the editor is much needed, and i think that you should write precisely what you displayed here - the lack of balance is appalling.

in Baby Shower, Scrapbook page, New Baby Advice? on Scrapbooking Baby
i did the same thing when my friend had a baby, and she really liked it, just go to walmart or target, and get like a scrap book kit, they have ones for baby books, and take pictures at the baby shower, or if you were wanting to give it as a prestent, you might just want to make a baby book, and just layout the pages and shse can fill them in as the baby gets older.

i still can't believe he did that. at the bottom of the screen during his abortion shcpeel, his ratings from women we so low. clearly, the majority do not agree with this.

i feel as though women's bodies are literally baby-making factories and that's it. it's not up to them to decide. you know, under stalin's regime in the soviet union, he gave out medals to any woman who had ten children of more. he gave them awards for producing good little soviets. too bad there's no incentive for american women.

in BHC: A Black Woman’s Smile on Uptown Notes
Peace Dumi,

I agree with you. There's power in our brother-poet's voice, and it resonates with many of us....yet and still, there are many things that make us smile (our brothers are definitely included...MOST certainly, but our beings are deeper...sometimes the smell of the spring blossoms interrupts our hurried pace, and our smiles unapologetically stretch forth...we find joy in the little things too.

And yes, I agree with my sister's point...our native sisters have endured much on this soil as well.

I'm a firm believer that it's our responsibility to make humanity smile...all of us...to give our children (here and future) reasons to smile. This call is upon all of us.

With all that said, I still felt honored in this video, and the love it was created with has not gone unrecognized.

in Why Does John McCain Hate America? on Intelligent Discontent
really, guys?

remember back when women were supposed to cover their hair? it wasn't so long ago. even in the '50s american women usually wore kerchiefs if they were married.

when you walk into an orthodox church, women are REQUIRED to cover their hair, and men are REQUIRED to take off any hat. i experienced this in ukraine.
so i say bah to both of you.
