in ArrivedOK tells your friends/family when you… arrived OK on Mobile Industry Review
I dont like this idea either.... Hi mum, got here ok, weather is great, off to hotel now, love to dad....

That can be done while I'm waiting for my bags or sitting in a taxi on the way to my hotel.

Sorry, but I just dont see the point of this...

in Will SMS ever become mainstream for small business? on Mobile Industry Review
hummm, a very simple web page that has a phone number field and a text box field could make their job a lot easier.

To automate they could use a sql table linked to a dts or ssis daily job that looks up the table and automatically sends a text message to anyone that is due one.

All in all a few hours work... but then they need the front end screen to enter the details... yada yada yada :-) (maybe they could use a spread sheet! yes, that would work just as good)

its all pretty easy stuff to set up and it gives them a good return for their efforts

in Google Latitude arrives to rip the arse out of mobile location services on Mobile Industry Review
Ehh, I am missing something...!

You can sign in and sign out of latitude but I didn't see that initially. I would have thought quitting the app and not selecting to continue to update my location would have signed me out automatically...

That may catch a few people out !

in Google Latitude arrives to rip the arse out of mobile location services on Mobile Industry Review
This is a fantastic implementation of google maps and LBS but I'm a bit shocked that I can go back in to the app and not need a password to see the locations of my friends...

What happens if I lose my phone...? I wouldn't like someone to know where my girlfriend is or that my niece is at school etc

Why didn't they make the latitatue menu option password controlled, or am I missing something?

in A Twitter Debate with James Whatley on Mobile Industry Review
I have to agree with Mike about finding friends using the mobile site... its just not as easy as it should or could be at all. Why no search for a friend option or enter an address/username to follow?

I like the idea of it but again, I haven't the foggiest whats going on with it most of the time...

Mike42 Careful there Mark, the Twitterati will hunt you down and tweet you into submission with their frequent updates on the heath status of fellow train travellers, or indeed the status of trains/Tube in general ;-)

in Trutap staff on notice; Deal of the century to be had! on Mobile Industry Review
The thing is a lot of software can now give the likes of admob general location details but no mobile advertiser asks for it....

Why can't they just add a lat and lon, age group and gender fields to what can be sent to them as non default ....? The location specific ad requests could be placed...

Then all they'd have to do is ask the customer who they wanted to target and where...

Seems pretty easy to me..

The Trutap software looks like a great app and with facebook integration it should really be hitting its high point now... I hope they don't give up and continue to push forward.

in Virgin Mobile: More abuse of the word ‘unlimited’ on Mobile Industry Review
I have t o go with Helen here... I think its a fantastic step forward and will take the fear away for the average user.

What would be great would be a text message from Virgin to say you are close to your daily limit.

Maybe it could be a tick box option that used some of your credit to send the message or something?

in The Future of Mobile is Dire on Mobile Industry Review
I agree in some respects but you need to look at what you're asking for.

Show me the flower website that allows you to buy things in 2 clicks and I'll eat my hat !! (I don't own a hat but i would buy one and you could film it...)

Part of me feels that people are not ready to do this yet on mobiles even though it can be written. There has never been any huge commercial push for ecommerce on phones by anyone.

Large companies are still dipping their toes at the moment to possibly give them case studies on the subject but no one has pushed hard yet at all.

At the moment its mainly social and not commerce thats pushing the mobile world... It will come ... but when !?!

in o2 isn’t bothering with the Nokia N96 on Mobile Industry Review
The N96 is supposed to be the Nokia Flag Ship model but its taken so long to come out the other phones are coming out within the nokia range that have similar or better features....

Its really bad if the main nokia is not going to be covered by one of the big networks....

Does some of the blame lie with Nokia for taking such a long time to bring this phone to market?

roaming data...... ! I dont want to pay £6 a meg (O2) or £7.50 a meg (T-Mobile) thank you...

I want to pay a one off £10 a year and then my Unlimited data (oed update of word now = 200 meg - 1 gig) should kick in where ever I am...

Or at least get a heary discount on charges if you use the home network with the same network abroad ie T-mobile in the UK and T-mobile in the US..

Samantha Eurgh, roaming charges and data!

Prices should definitely be made better, and seeing how we're charged say compared to standard broadband, it's ridiculous!

As for the international rates on the same network... Definitely! Seeing as you're not actually using another network, it doesn't make much sense to be charged as if you're forced to use an entirely different network altogether.

Thanks for the comment!

Samantha I think we are.

A lot of spoken conversations I have with people, sound very much like an MSN conversation, with the Hi, how are you?, what have you been upto?
The order has set itself in, and we can't really talk without initiating the questions. It's really odd.

Samantha.
