465W is impressive. My own poc pc suffered data loss in a failed* attempt at an installation of a 200GB drive (damn crappy software!) last month and it's been gimping along on a sad 40GB.

First day I heard about UW, I ran off and dl'ed the fullscreen trailer and looped it for a fullhour. Looks slick. The new wave of neo-gothic movies shot in Czech Republic, Hungary (and other adjacent areas) have the deliciously dark look about them. Not sure about SOTV, but Blade II was in Cz.

Know how you feel. I dream big but start with small mods - adding more RAM, bigger hdd, that sort of thing. When what I should've done in the first place is save the cash and buy components. But who can keep up? By the time you get the first item on your list, it's obsolete in the next few months.

When I started using GB, I didn't really think much about it being a community. For the longest time, it was just a side-blog whenever my main one would conk out and I really needed to put my thoughts out there. But looking back at the archives, I see that it's almost been a year that I've been g-blogging. I'm very happy with it. Very excited about GB2 also. Can't wait what new features and tweaks are in store. I appreciate the work that you've put into this site, and have come to acknowledge the community that goes with it.

Appleseed came up on my radar more than a week ago. The old version made me nod off after five minutes or so, but the 2004 version is nothing but breathtakingly-stunning. Personally, I mostly like "magical realism" anime (and Ghibli produces a lot of that) but there is a bit of excitement about AS2004 and the Trinity engine that's used in it. Trinity engine? Look up Wonderful Days. Thanks to Veritech Pilot (see post) aka Petrol's NYC Alter-Ego. His blog focuses on some of the things that are near and dear to my own heart.

Parents who automatically bring their kids to fastfood joints at the very first whine of "I'm hungry" deserve that burger-for-a-burger punishment. Though I doubt that it'll do any good: Adult humans can process junk more effectively than kids. From what little I know of biology (or common sense in this case), kids need nutrients especially from 0-12 years of age to help them build up immunities and such. To ready them for the rigors of "the partying age" of 13 onwards, I guess. I feel lucky. Once my parents knew I was on the way, my dietician aunt was consulted and she laid out a before-during-after pregnancy diet for my mom involving fruits, veggies - I grew up really healthy and all that. I think, growing up in the Third World where fastfood was not yet readily accessible really helped. It my teens I was a lean mean fighting machine (just kidding). But then I discovered cigs and beer and endless pizza at uni.

Oh well.

McDonalds came out with a short-lived campaign awhile ago saying, "Chicken nuggets - now with white meat" or some such. Begging the question: what were they making it before that? I'm also weary whenever a large corp unleashes something as questionable as their "I'm hating loving it" ad campaign. Jeez. It's everywhere. 99 Billion served. How insecure can this company be? What dastardly plot could they have in the works? Granted, I haven't read Fast Food Nation yet, but oh the stories I've heard. Good thing I've consciously altered my wreck of an eating habit. From mostly ffj (fastfood junk) to healthier homecooked meals. But then I'm an adult and can make decisions for myself. If I have a burger once every six weeks, a mile-walk every other day can help offset that. Kids you have to guide and look out for.

Sure they have high metabolism and all that (not those kids in the pic), but the lack of responsibility on whoever's taking care - or lack thereof - of them is appaling.

I may be jumping the gun. Maybe these kids have glandular problems. Maybe they're really just big to begin with. I know my kids (we're talking waaay in the future, maybe 2010) won't see a lot of ffj. A lot of sushi, sure. That and a rigorous ninja-training program starting at the age of two.

Oh my own little ninja army. Four little dudes (with names like Donatello, etc.) and a pretty little girl I'll name April.

Yeah, his liver became toxic. Think about it. When I worked in a Manhattan sweatshop (don't ask), the only place for food was McD and Burger King on either side of the street. At the end of the month I began having sharp stabbing chest pains that would wake me up in the middle of the night. A visit to the doctor and tests later confirmed that my cholesterol shot up to 350. The normal (healthy) level is around 100 or less.

First up, I love GB. It's rooted deep in my brain that when I write email I have to backspace where I've typed [ i] or [ b]. (:

#4 is depressing the hell outta me, but true when communities get bloated. What's the alternative - elitism/exclusivity? G-blog works really well for me. A very small number of my friends have joined up so they can post comments A, or start up their own blog B.

It would be nice in GB2 if anonymous users could post without having to sign up. IP Logging would help ensure that nastiness from fuckwads and trolls (random drive-by posting) are kept to a minimum or even zero.

Privacy in GB2: Is there a way to keep G-blog Member X from reading my posts? This (non)issue has come up elsewhere and the site/community mods didn't have a solid answer.

Being able to upload your own CSS design would be awesome. Not that I know the first thing about CSS anyway.

Posting histories: A link or page that shows where G-blogger X has been commenting or which categories he/she has been posting to.

There are several reasons why blogger.com fails in my book. The most annoying ones:

1. I signed up when they first came out. I was never able to login to that account. It died a natural death.
2. For some fucdup reason (no matter where I am), the site always loads at the slowest pace possible. I've tried it on a T3 and it still timed out. (Is timing out even possible on a T3?!)

Say it with me: SUXXXXORZ.

Otoh, I did like it when google purchased pyra (blogger's parent co), but imnsho this hardly improved quality of service. Further, a change in layout/design/whathaveyou does not necessarily equate better. Take a look at hotmail. "New Design!" it says right there on the frontpage when you login. Yay for new design. Then you see the 100+ spam in your inbox.

They can change the design as often as they want, but form follows function. What's the use of being pretty if you can't do anything?

Serenity's a good pick for a codename. Granted, it's comments like this from non-progs that make progs scoff but you have to understand, we have to open our mouths at least once during meetings (if only to show that we can PRETEND to know what the hell is going on.)

Nehoo. I like the lower bit in shot1.jpg where it shows blog maintenance mode. One of the things that came to mind when I first came on board GB (and read "community blog" somewhere in the intro) was that one could have a group blog along the lines of say, Idlethink or music for robots. Some blog where a bunch of friends can thrown down posts, anonymous comments ok... like an online version of a block party. With the appropriate safeguards of course, since gatecrashers can suck. The right-hand Navigation panel looks very good and very clean.

In shot2, I like that editing posts has been made easier. Is that italicised titles (well, No title, right?) I see? Will html be allowed in title fields in GB2? That's kinda cool.

Everything else, I'm excited about Serenity. Excited and just a tad anxious. It means so many things for my life online, where I spend at least a third of the time blogging - and since GB is my main blog it's a big deal to me. I tried something similar to a blog when I was corporate, but with results similar to yours. My VP (that is, the VP of IS) took me to lunch one time to listen to salespitch A, and explain the finer points of office politics B.

me: But look at it - it's human nature to talk about oneself, and one does it all the time. entire speeches start with I. I did this I did that I think this etc. ...So writing about one's opinions is the natural extension, isn't that logical?

I don't get it. It's SO easy to call for a meeting over the phone or via email (thank you Outlook, gdmf....) and shouldn't a blog make it even easier to discuss ideas, offer suggestions, etc. Maybe because the nature of a blog is that it's personal? But what about group blogs? How do those work? Maybe they work because the participants are to some degree intimate with each other - that is - they are familiar with the others' habits, patterns (either IRL or online) and there is some measure of ... friendship? A comfort level? (What's the right word to use here? )

But isn't working in the same company - the same building or floor (cubicle kingdom) one of the most intimate situations one can ever be in? Sharing the same intranet, water cooler, breakroom, lavatories? Or is it this forced intimacy which makes people erect walls where there shouldn't be?

I remember a design fad in the mid/late Nineties where cubicle farms did away with the walls and "opened up" the workspace by lowering or totally eliminating cubicle walls. I think the Swiss started it. Or the Belgians? But all that does is reinforce the invisible wall - or what I call "office gameface", where one has to come up with better and newer ways of looking busy while actually getting nothing done. Well, nothing except endless porn/games/chatting/mp3 downloading and everything else except the work that's described in the ever-so-handy job description.

And then they call in these so-called efficiency experts.

Wtf.

lomo.com man, is impressive. Lomography on the whole is daunting, beautiful and just plain daunting. It's great stuff but I won't ever be able to do anything like it. I mentioned flickr-ising g-blog to the G-Boss but he said (and don't quote me on this) it's for GBv2. The sizing on flickr is a bit strange, that's why I use photobucket a lot and flickr only if I've a massive number of photos. (Because editing + posting is a beehatchi!)

Oh man. In the last 3 months of 2004 (because a Subway was the closest food place at the site where I was working) all I had was toasted sandwiches from Subway. My fave's the Southwest Cheese Steak with Chipotle. Mmmm hmmm. Gimme a foot-long of that - everything except onions - with some jalapeño crisps, Ruby Red juice drink and I'm all set to go!

Quizno's I can't remember what my fave is but my sib had the chicken carbonara just a while ago, which I finished for her. It was mighty tasty.

If you ever get franchises of Potbelly (get a Wreck) or Jimmy John's over there, you'll be complete. :D

What drink options does the local Subway over there offer? Is it true you can have beer to go with your sandwich?
