in Lawyers are LinkedIn to each other more and more on Paul Jacobson
Hi Rafik, thanks for the feedback. I still haven't heard back from LinkedIn's customer service but I upgraded anyway.

Hi Kristoff. Thinking about something like LinkedIn as a networking site for "big people" ignores the fact that many of those "big people" started off on the same plane as people like us. Their networks helped lift them to the higher realms they now occupy. Leaving that aside, I see my LinkedIn profile as being both another point of contact for people wanting to get in touch with me and as a further source of information about the work I do and the activities I am involved in. People can also get a good sense of the people I associate with and that may make a difference. I am less focussed on how many people I can contact (I can email a great many more people than I can message for free on LinkedIn) and more on the various ways people can contact me and find out more about me.

in Nokia E71 on Paul Jacobson
Hey Saul

I use iSync to sync my contacts and calendar on my N73 (not so much since a phone firmware upgrade pretty much killed the bluetooth connection between my phone and Mac) so I am happy with that level of synchronisation.

in Vodacom launching iPhone in South Africa on July 20 on Simon Dingle
I would switch to Vodacom just to get the new iPhone if I wasn't bolted to MTN for another year. Next option: I'll be saving my pennies to buy this one cash if the rumours prove to be true.

Thanks for the comment Martin. The whole controversy is a bit overdone although the main issues are still very relevant and problematic.

Walter, you are even more screwed than I am. You were potentially even more involved in the old regime's South Africa than I was.

It was a pretty good show! I enjoyed hearing so much from Mark about so many different topics.

in When it is time to leave South Africa on Paul Jacobson
Oh there is definitely a skills shortage in SA but people don't leave in such numbers for no good reason. What I would certainly like to see is the SA government creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment here. People need to feel wanted and needed and that their contributions will be valued.

in I love my ScanSnap … just not the one Nic loves on Paul Jacobson
That is odd. There is only one version of Adobe Reader. The version that actually let's you do stuff is Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro. What I was saying is that the ScanSnap comes with Acrobat Standard 7 and not the reader software unless your earlier version did, in fact, come with just the document viewer.

in Not so fanatical about Fanatics on Paul Jacobson
There is so much they can do just by using what everyone else is using, nevermind what they could do it they invested in a little innovation. Silly!

in Buy the bigger MacBook? on Paul Jacobson
Yeah, it is called Migration Assistant. That is exactly what I am going to use when I migrate. I prefer the black MacBook and found a handy thing that sticks just below the keyboard and which protects that surface from those marks.

in Safari is too insecure for PayPal and will be blocked … maybe not on Paul Jacobson
Hey Asa, thanks for dropping by and commenting. I didn't realise potentially how little a SSL certificate means when it comes to certifying a site is what it purports to be. I almost expected that there was some sort of verification process in the background and I am a bit surprised that there isn't really. Support for EV certificates seems to be a sensible thing for sites that rely on security and want to inspire confidence in their visitors.

in The newest addition to our family on Justin Hartman
Congrats again Justin and Colette. I didn't even think that Luke would be apprehensive about his little brother. Definitely something for us to remember when we give Aaron a little brother or sister some day.
