in Cat Skiing with Park City Powder Cats on Resort Marketing - Don't Forget It's All About Fun!
Yes and no. Rained at Lake level all night/day, but up high it's pounding hard. They're calling for "feet" so this will be the storm that gets us through April. As long as it stays cold ;-)

in What's the matter here? on Resort Marketing - Don't Forget It's All About Fun!
The Pepsi/Suicide ad smacks more of product positioning and awareness than brand positioning. I'm pretty certain Pepsi isn't trying to associate suicide with its brand. That would, well...be suicide!
Burton, however, is quite efficient at (like you said), "ride(ing) the outlaw image" quite effectively. Pun intended.
Pepsi + Suicide = Bad branding
Burton + Outlaw = Good branding

Great post Eric. Burton has build a brand that thrives on "outlaw". As snowboarding has enjoyed its mainstream success they have to continue to find ways to get their brand in the dialog of "outlaw" controversy. Just like they did with their "Power to the Poachers" PR campaign of last season, once again they prove they can stir it up and keep their brand alive and in the context that drives their customer's affinity.

in Some Quick Branding Tips for Individuals on Chris Brogan
Great points! I especially agree with "Consider your Message"! If anything, Web 2.0 has highlighted how BORING and lot of really cool people are!
As far as baby names...
In 1999 I nervously did a nslookup to be sure that the name we were about to pick within the next few hours for our first son was available. It was. My wife thought I was a freak using a dial-up modem in the hospital room.
In 2002 I did the same thing, yet on a Handspring Visor w/ a OmniSky! She didn't notice.
Both my boys have their own vanity domains, and I've gone on to snipe their gmail, yahoo, etc. AmI nuts!?
My wife thinks I'm nuts, but I'm pretty sure my kids one day will think their Daddy was dope on that move.

in Nokia tries to get leadership position back from iPhone on Scobleizer
The iPhone is the first phone to put a dent in my Nokia love affair. All other phone manufacturers failed. (Admittedly, the Sidekick II on release was a momentary love-fling with a messaging centric device where access to corporate email was not a priority.)
My Nokia E70 remains everything the iPhone falls short of, however, the iPhone is everything I would wish Nokia to aspire to. An unlocked, open iPhone with 3rd party S60v3 type apps, a decent speakerphone + camera + videocamera, and a removable battery would go a long way. A 2nd battery would at least get you thru the day and maybe in to the evening .

So I saw this Google Desktop Alert on your post while stuck on a conference call...cool. Embarrassingly enough I had to Google Knute Rockne to figure out if I was being complemented or not hahaha! Thanks! Steve will be jealous tho ' -- he loves Norway.

It's a great Monday to read a Google Alert about your partner being recognized for being a good guy. Thanks for appreciating Steve. I know I do all the time and it's great to have some help ;-)
Thanks again!

There are just so many things wrong with comparing Open Source/Linux to a Hummer. Perhaps a bike would be better.

The world would a much better place if we spent more time being ourself instead of trying to be like someone else. Unless, of course, it's trying to be like Ricky Bobby 'cause the world would be a lot funnier then. Shake'n'bake, right? 8-)

Unfortunately the world contains people with low self-esteem. You and your wife are lovely people who build esteem among a community of like minds. Hold your head up and look to your community...we're behind you.

in What are your Strengths and Weaknesses? on Radical Behavior
Strength: You're ability to pick on me everyday with no direct repercussions from compensation to social relevance.
Weakness: An inability to quickly determine if I'm f'n with you 8-)
Great post. Another strength is your ability to point out my weaknesses which I appreciate. Otherwise I'd be a megalomaniac. With you in the cut I'll never grow the ability to refer to myself in the 3rd person. (i.e. David LaPlante thinks Josh should go get some beer.)
