in A Very Public Apology on What Were They Thinking?
I only just realized that the blog was up today, when, after checking the 404 error at http://luchins.com/wwtt/ for the umpty-umpth time, I realized that, hey, there were ARCHIVE LISTINGS down in the corner.

Illegal? Hell, I thought they were MANDATORY.

Okay: yes, two black-haired parents could have a red-haired son, because the genes for black hair are dominant, and the genes for red or blonde hair are recessive.

On the flip side, on Batman Beyond, both of black-haired Terry McGinnis's parents have red or reddish-brown hair, which ISN'T likely. That JLU epsiode that revealed that Terry was really Bruce's biological son, thanks to gene tampering by Amanda Waller? That was foreshadowed.

Naked Bunny: well, HE did. Maybe he doesn't want the competition.

Everyone Else:

Yeah, pretty much. Lightning is a lot slower than c, and a normal human's neural responses are even slower. If Barry's powers knock his nervous system transmission times up to light speed, that would give him ample time to perceive and react.

"An endless gallery of statues", indeed.

Rorschach: Robin already has the R-In-A-Circle Registered Trademark Logo! What more do you want?

Someone needs to send this to Cory Doctorow at boingboing, so he can rant about copyright extensions and the public domain.

...you were surprised that Roy Thomas was an Ascended Fanboy?

After All-Star Squadron??

Yeah, but when Thomas first appeared, it was clear that he was an experienced mechanic with a good rep -- so he probably came down at LEAST a year or two before Alaska became a state.

Doc:

He doesn't actually SAY "mind wipe". He SAYS "knock the knowledge out of my head".

Which, given Hal's Silver Age proclivities, suggests the Big Green Glowing Mallet of Laser-Guided Amnesia.

I thought that Alan used the "shed my light over dark evil" in his origin story, too, but I might be wrong.

And... of the ones above, I have to say that "In brightest day" works best for me. A few years ago, I might have voted for one of the others, but after hearing John Stewart invoke it in Justice League... whoa.

Still, I have a fondness for Rot Lop Fan's oath:

"In loudest din or hush profound,
my ears catch evil's slightest sound.
Let those who toll out evil's knell,
beware my power:
The F-Sharp Bell!"

in Batman: Victim on What Were They Thinking?
With Barry, that WORKS -- even the silly costume bit, since Barry was established as a hardcore Jay Garrick fanboy no later than "Flash of Two Worlds".

With Bruce... it just ignores and cheapens the origin. On the other claw, this was during a period when they didn't really pay much attention to Bruce's childhood tragedy, and Bruce didn't obsess over it all the time. Losing track of that hook may have been why the Bat-books were on the verge of cancellation for most of the early '60s.

Funny, in the '60s, they paid more attention to SUPERMAN'S childhood tragedy than Batman's. It was all about Tragic Lost Krypton, Jor-El and Lara's Brave Sacrifice, wah wah wah. Superboy stories invariably referred to the Kents as his "foster parents" -- even when Clark is thinking to himself.

As someone who's spent four decades and three major droughts in a coastal state... what does having a harbor full of salt water have to do with weathering a drought?

Is it really a RETCON retcon? I thought Kirby established that himself at some point.
