My Twitter address is http://twitter.com/ariedana.

Also, we have a Twitter account at http://twitter.com/waaytv, but it's currently non-functioning because our CMS provider's RSS feeds don't work with Twitterfeed. If any WorldNow stations have managed to get past that, I'd appreciate it if they'd get in touch with me.

Re: The Rules of Dana

Patrick, that's all I could think of at 10 p.m. whilst watching Colbert. :P I've added a couple more this morning, and I might continue adding more as I think of them.

Re: Robbie Williams’ ‘Lost’?

I think that it might be him floating it about to see if it catches on virally, maybe like the "interview" in the "She's Madonna" video. It's clearly not a finished version of anything, because his voice is not at top form.

Since he and Guy Chambers are supposedly working on something together, could this be the first draft of a collab? Who knows? Not I, and I doubt Rob will be calling to tell me. *laughs*

Re: Elizabeth Edwards Would Eat Ann Coulter For Lunch

Fixed now. :)

Re: Paris Hilton and Anderson Cooper — Profiles in Wealth | A Place to Crash

Thanks! My roommate (who was from Pulaski) and I would bring cartons back with us when we went home. As it was, she had to hide hers from her, because I needed a lot of caffeine to get up in the morning.

I had cherry Sun Drop there a LONG time ago. I might have to drop by next time I'm driving through, now that you've reminded me.

Re: ‘Waiting for Freddie’…Yeah, Right

Yes, because the rich retirees will flock to a town without a coastline or a river and nothing, honestly, to do. Because there are only so many times you can go visit the Amish.

I wanna be so rich that I can import the Sun Drop wherever I go. And thanks to my mom's geneology research, I feel no need to ever visit another cemetary. In fact, it would make me very happy if I never did.

I saw you mention your Aunt Tiny. Getting to do SEC football stuff here is great -- much better than doing hockey coverage at my old job in North Carolina. :P I'm obsessed with the UK, and if I could just find me a British husband to help me get residency, I'd pack my bags permanently. Frankly, I haven't seen the Buffy ep and only saw part of the Scrubs ep (and frankly I didn't dislike it.) Different strokes for different folks. I read an article once where Tish talked about grounding Miley because she wore a stomach-baring top once and refused to change into something else. But I've seen a lot of Disney shows of late, as well as High School Musical 2, and all of the stuff is like that. Heck, even the dancing has evolved into toeing the line of sensuality but never going over the line.

And all of this is a great thing, BTW. I have a 6-year-old niece who is being brought up with good role models, and she doesn't seem to feel any pressure to dress like anything but the tomboy she is.

Re: Slow Healing | A Place to Crash

Thanks! I loved Martha, but to me Tate has far more synchronicity with Tennant and the two characters seem to actually be on much closer wavelengths than Martha did.

Keep in mind that you are speaking from the perspective of a guy who has seen 29 series of the Doctor, and you're comparing every actress and every Companion to scores of others. I've seen many of the other incarnations of both characters, but I'm thinking in terms of the three Companions in the modern stories, as do most of the people watching the series at this point. And I think Donna fits the role better than any of them.

Rose always had family issues pulling at her, as did Martha in spades. It's already been established that Donna's only close personal connection is fully supportive of her journey, so all that crap's outta the way. Now Donna and the Doctor are off having adventures and she's proving to be his humanizing force and helpmate, not his adoring fanbase. I like that. They're obviously not equals because he's a freaking time lord, but she's also going to force him to not get caught up in all the crap that's happened previously, which Martha also never did.

And no, darkness in the Doctor is not new. The Eccelston series is proof of that. But I don't think they've really touched the depths that Tennant can go into, and I hope they take advantage of that before Tennant leaves, if he does. Torchwood shouldn't have all the angst in the Whoverse. :)

Re: My Take on the FLDS Situation

No problem. From what she said in the actual VF article, she really thought the photo was cool. Her parents had already left (it was said that her grandmother and homeschool teacher were still there when the picture was shot) but it's pretty clear that overall her parents trust her judgement, and I doubt she in any way was thinking, "What will people think of this?" She probably thought, "Hey, this will be really pretty" and went ahead, just like most of us would. I thought that press release was badly worded in light of what VF was already saying about the shoot.

Re: In Defense of Miley

I do think that a big factor in the downfalls of Britney and Lindsay have been their respective illnesses. In a recent article about Britney in Blender, some of the folks who helped build her career said she began having periods of delusional mania after her breakup with Justin Timberlake, and that probably was a big factor in everything sick. Lindsay is a drug addict whose father is a drug addict. Being in Hollywood did no favors for either of them because Hollywood is full of enablers. But they'd probably still be screwed up if Britney had never left Louisiana and Lindsay were a Long Island socialite. Paris is just a fameball who went too far.

I do think that Miley's family is much more supportive and understands the ins and outs of fame a lot more than either Britney's or Lindsay's. Miley's dad was famous before her and would be reasonably famous without her, so there's no dependence on her for money or attention. She's also got strong faith, which is valuable.

The one thing that bothers me is that she's so certain about herself and is putting herself on such a high pedestal with the virginity pledge. It's really easy to say when you're 14 that you're not going to have sex, but it won't be so easy to live that out at 16 and 18. I just hope that she can live up to her expectations of herself, much less everyone else's.

Re: In Defense of Miley

1. Obviously. She's on the Disney Channel, for crying out loud. But in no way is one backless photo turning her into Madonna. Perspective, please.

2. I have a 6-year-old niece myself, and I'd still consider her to be a far better role model than the dozens of teen and tween girls she sees at stores wearing clothes that could've come out of Paris Hilton's closet. Beyond that one VF photo, Miley wears much more conservative clothing than practically any other star under the age of 25. One photo does not make her into Lindsay Lohan, either. And I doubt she's really going to change that for at least a couple more years.

I would say more, but I just read this post that says it a lot better than I: http://suburbanturmoil.blogspot.com/2008/04/mil....

Re: Getting This Off My Chest to BBC, ITV, GMTV, Etc. | A Place to Crash

I didn't realize that was wrong. I can say for certain that one of the main motivators for me in becoming involved in the camp and presenting myself was the chance to learn from Mitch, and afterwards things he talked about -- on his own or with others -- were things that made me go home and completely retheme my personal site and build a work site on WP. It would have been very easy for me to go the safe route with the work site with Blogger, but I wanted my blog to dance, and Mitch showed me how. I told him in person that I would just love to sit and watch him work just to see how he makes things work and flow together the way he does. He should absolutely be a WP consultant in title as he is in practice.

Re: 2008/09/26/al-gore-twitter/

If you've spent downtime with Al in person, he's got a great, biting wit. I think he'll take to Twitter like a duck on water. It suits him to be, in a sense, just another voice snarking on life.

And I hope he's not like most politicians on Twitter and actually posts about the mundane things he does, like the scene in "An Inconvenient Truth" where he's going through security at an airport. No need to promote politics and environmental issues there -- others are doing that.
