The harm those zealots and greedy individuals have done is incalculable, and is quite dangerous for our country and the world.

Re: 5 Ways to Green Back-to-School (And It’s Not this “Eco” Supply Kit)

Excellent points on the many other ways to make a difference. And, I just wanted to mention that we are probably in an early phase of green products. Many readers may remember when "fresh" organic produce meant a few shriveled, tasteless vegetables in a poorly-run storefront, and when there was limited selection of other organic (e.g. cereal, grains, dairy) products. Clearly that has evolved over the years, and hopefully the same will apply in the broader areas such as this article discusses.

Re: A Quick Primer on How to Ride Your Bike to Work

Thanks for this excellent series. It may not have the visible importance of changing to renewable distributed power generation, but bicycle riding (vs motorized travel) is one of the best things we could do not only for the environment, but for our physical health as a society, and to change to a happier culture more dedicated to living in the moment. Why is driving, and motorized travel in general, so popular? So we can get through the day's chores quickly and get back to work and being PRODUCTIVE at a high speed. So, let's not forget bicycles, slow food, leisurely evenings looking at the sky with loved ones (or alone), and all the other great enjoyments of life.

Re: Aquafina’s New Eco-Fina Bottle: Greenwash or Progress?

There is a growing trend of corporatization of water... ok, got that out of the way.

I remember as a kid at summer camp, 45 years ago, one of the campers during a trip to town asked the store owner how much the water cost. For the rest of the summer, the other kids made fun of this, and a song was written ("How much is that water in the fountain? How much will that water cost me? How much is that water in the fountain? Is it one dollar, or two dollars or three?"). Most would not let him forget his "ridiculous" question. Who knew at that time that enough of the public would be as gullible and buy water 30 years later?

Re: Aquafina’s New Eco-Fina Bottle: Greenwash or Progress?

It is still a really bad idea. Plastic bottles of water are a blight, and are not essential so they should be eliminated. I am not sure whether they are ESSENTIAL in emergencies, but if they are, that is the only place they should be used.

Re: The Seven Stones of Simpler Living

Good point that the meditative aspect, re-experiencing our daily lives, is an essential part of most of the changes that we need to make. I have finally slowed down enough, after a recent home and office move, to use the railroad instead of the car when going to Manhattan. It takes more time, but is far more relaxing and a bit less expensive than driving, even in the evening when traffic is low and parking is free, since there are tolls for cars. It is indeed a benefit to the environment and to one's peaceful state of mind.

Re: Oil Rig Hotel & Spa Adaptive Reuse

Excellent idea. Even when great famines arise and people on land are not safe, the rig could be self-sufficient, with armed helicopters and vegetable gardens on the top level, and defensive weapons facing outward from the clearly bullet-proof metal containers doubling as guest rooms.

Truly a wonderful idea you have listed. My thoughts are just another take on a good idea for the oil rigs.

Re: Cutest Kiss of the Year 2008 | WickedReport.com

The mom probably overwhelmed the baby, but better love like that than coldness! The child can grow up feeling a loving world, and can gradually make sense of it with confidence.

Re: http://www.persuasive.net/have-you-seen-my-swag/

This article basically states that you can develop charisma even if you don't yet have it, and that acting is fine to do and can become reality. Both of those are good points.

I would point out that the article does NOT say that you should bend people to your will against their will, or use your influence to get things you should not. It is more about getting what each of deserve if we are truly offering something to others -- we should each receive respect and positive response from others.

Re: U.S. Policy Plays Favorites With Public Transportation

It is incredible how hard our Federal so-called government resists progress on the most critical issues of our day (environment and war policy). Who elected them?

More education on the underlying issues for government members is clearly needed. I don't think they hate this country, but I do believe they are badly informed, and perhaps have the wrong advisers guiding their thinking. In the case of the president and vice-president of our country, replacement appears to be the only answer.
