Interesting article and comments. A couple of things to consider:

1. Open Office 3.0 for the Mac or Google Docs
2. The faster startup (boot and hibernating) and lack of crashing OS can really increase productivity over time on the Mac. That can be very important for a small business.

Also, this year the The Entrepreneur Center @NVTC ran a Venture Capital Entrepreneur Challenge which included a $10,000 seed prize to the winner.

It will happen when companies using ROWE or similarly flexible programs begin to outperform their competition. That could be because of increased productivity and focus on results not routine or it could be because they will be able to attract the best and brightest of the new workforce. I suspect it is already occurring in a lot of industries.

I agree that it is early and they don't seem to have a lot of big names yet. Apparently, what makes them different is that the advertisers can only buy ads for words that they own the trademarks for. Thus Coca Cola can't buy text links for Pepsi. Is that your take?

Interesting idea Nick. There are companies whose whole business is to look for misuse of brands online. Brand tagging in Facebook definitely could be used for both positive and negative brand promotion. For example, tagging Red Bull in photos of passed out drunk college kids by a toilet might not be what Red Bull wants to portray.

But then again, as long as the brand got immediate notification from Facebook whenever it's brand was tagged, then they could block the tags. It could work with the correct monitoring controls in place for the companies.

No Social Ads on the home page. Just the ones in the News feed? Bizzare (logout) link at top of home page...

I find it very useful to have reader comments. Otherwise I feel like I am just talking to myself. Along with analytics I can tell what interest people have in different topics. Also, my blog posts are often questions that I am hoping readers will take the time to answer.

This is an interesting new feature. Myspace has had this feature on the profile page for a very long time. I wonder if Facebook is competing with them more than with the Top Friends application.

I think you have a typo in there Nick. I believe it should be "p dcpatton $50".

Next time, if you don't repeat the question back to the interviewer, you can make it even shorter! :)

Rather than seeing breaking news here, what I really value is your (and others) commentary on the news. Who cares if that happens a few days later. In fact, I often wait a few days anyway, just so the comments can build up.

Trillian is still the winner for me due to its SecureIM sessions.

I find it good to step away and achieve the balance that you are looking for. Exercise is especially good for dealing with stress and can really give focus. You might even find you are more productive when you do work.
