It backfired. I think this kid has a great future. But he should concentrate on his age and the age-environment instead of trying to be a 20 year old. He should give this business to his parents to run and enjoy his childhood before its too late. I kid you not, he will regret this if he continues this business.

Re: Cookie tracking: How Facebook could be worth $100 billion?

Gosh...we endured last week of Facebook this Facebook that...the last few days was nice with no "over the head PR work","dreamy" Facebook number and then all of a sudden you drop a $100 billion article on Facebook. Whoever thinks Facebook is or will be worth $100 billion should stop working and go back to school. The hype is getting really stupid and will backfire on Facebook for appearing really greedy. The more people come up with Facebook billion dollar valuation, the more i am anxious and support some one to come up with a competitive site and kick fb out of the game.

Re: GrandCentral Invites

Hey guys, just found out about this site. Currently Facebook is gettting too cluttered. They are trying to do everything. Don't believe me. Try searching for "Microsoft" on the search tool. You will get hundreds of entries..no specifics. Facebook was setup to connect with friends. They should keep it that way. No matter what, they cannot compete with Linkedin and NetHooks. These sites are catered specifically for professional contact. All parties coming into the site know what they are getting into which is professional networking.

For students in facebook, very high percentage will not use the tool to separate business contacts.. most of them will use to separate their friends into different categories.

Re: Is Facebook’s Traffic Down?

Well here is a test, check your network activity and see if you notice the difference. I do. A month ago, there was a lot of activity on Facebook with all my friends. Everyone was excited about finding each other, now that we are caught up, what is the use of Facebook. I can email my long lost friends directly. I am not checking my facebook as often anymore. Also i am not getting as much activity from my friends either.

Steve Ballmer is right, Facebook is a fad.

Re: Facebook Gets Its Share of Spam

Facebook is great..but by the looks of it..i give about 6 months..can you imagine by April next year where FB will be? But FB is doing it just so to become the WALMART of social networking. In another words, they want be everything and anything on the website. The problem is, are they now going to allow you to contact anyone you dont know? Becuase that was the difference between FB and Myspace and if they allow that, that takes away one of the best thing about fb. Yes you can say, only those who select Networking will have their account opened but eventually everyone is going is select that.

Also I still want facebook for social only. I want to go to specific site that focuses on professional networking where i am surrounded by professional individual and recruiters. Facebook is not setup for that. It is like buying suits at a clothing store as opposed to a suit store. I am not saying Linkedin is a suit store, they are horrible. But as a student, I will trust and prefer to go to a site that is solely dedicated to professional networking only.

Re: Facebook Takes A Shot at LinkedIn

it shows up on mine too. If they did, they will definately brag about it. Currently they are not even releasing their CTR, which is comical hearing people saying Facebook will take down Google.

People go to Facebook not to search or look for businesses. People go to Facebook to socialize. So naturally you are not going to generate a lot of CTR. To make things worst, the younger computer savvy crowd have trained their eyes to automatically ignore ads on websites. How many times any of you have clicked on an ad on facebook? Zero to less than 3? Facebook is a hype carefully crafted by investors who are trying to take advantage of gullible people. And that is why they are offering their listing services (classified at best) for free. It is a lawsuit haven. If HR or recruiters were to look for new hires through Jobster, they are risking discrimination lawsuits. Here is why (speaking from HR experience). Try sending your resume with a picture of yourself. Trust me. 99% of the recruiters or HR will dump your resume. Why? Because if they looked at your resume and deny you the job, you can cry discrimination. That is why HR and recruiters will run far away from Jobster.com. Jobster is just advertising company. They are really good at getting media attention but HR or recruiting department will stay away from them. No matter how much times change toward social networking, unless the job law changes, having a site with your picture will not get you a job. Probably a pizza delivery.

Re: 2007/05/21/facebook-f8/

Why am i the only one thinking that this strategy will only attract small companies who are seeking to market their product. This was about 6-7 years ago and every one knows that when you are using university network, the output ip address is mostly the same especially if it is within a building or department. Unfortunately Ebay was not smart enough to realise that (this is in 1999) and suspended about 45 students who were buying the same book beginning of the semester for the same class (total 400 students). Anyway, even after 7 years, I could not keep an ebay account to sell. I had 2 accounts since then and everytime my sales hit $10,000 i get suspended because of my past suspension. So what did i do? Started selling from my own website. Especially with a lot of tools out there, people are starting to selling from their own site and only using Ebay for Marketing not actual sales of product.(notice the $1 dollar sales)

Keeping Google Checkout, increasing Paypal fees and sellers fees was another factor. Sellers would have saved a lot of money using Google Checkout and increased their listing on Ebay. The increase of sellers fees was to "weed out the small sellers" according Meg Whitman. It definately backfired. Arrogance at best.

Currently more Ebay sellers are from Asia than local, so it turns people off when an individual product have to be shipping from HK.

Good Luck Ebay. They have enjoyed the monopoly and it is time to try something else. I am starting to love AMAZON a lot more. They have grown a lot and coming up with new stuff every now and then. Not to mention facebook and other sites who have created Marketplace. People do not need to use Ebay to sell books or small items.

Re: 2007/10/24/google-microsoft-facebook-investment/

There is one thing that will burst the bubble. Facebook.

Facebook's outrageous valuation (especially for a company without a revenue model) will totally crash the market when people get tired of it or when traffic drops for facebooks just like MySpace or when people start to realise that it does not live up to its hype. It is sad as it will effect a lot of other companies and startups who may have a better revenue model compared to FB.

The only thing that might solve this is a complete buy out of FB as it will totally reduce the hype and save the industry. Just like YouTube. Notice that after the acquisation of You Tube, there have been less coverage and hype of YouTube. That is what needs to happen to FB to save the industry.

Re: 2007/10/26/business-30-facebook-app/

A lot of spam'ish type of companies in there. The application is a good start but need a lot of work. I don't think it will appeal to facebook crowd. Good effort though.

Re: 2007/10/28/linkedin-introduces-linkedin-store/

This is when we know that LinkedIn is desperate and out of ideas. I mean..what the heck have they been doing all this time, when all other networking sites are taking away their potential users...creating LinkedIn store? Are they serious about competing? Well, time is ticking for LinkedIn. Too Bad.

Re: 2007/10/30/pownce-public-api-2/

Wait..is anyone still using Pownce?

It was a fad few months ago..but everyone seemed to have gone back to twitter.

Re: 2007/11/01/facebook-second-round/

Hedge fund or any investor on this matter will look really stupid to invest on Facebook at this time. The sound thing to do is wait until Feb next year and see how the Open Social pans out and then make an investment on the top social site. By that time, Facebook membership who knows FB membership may decline.

I say Facebook may decline because, 7 of my friends have ready left facebook simply due to their FB's greed and spam/clutter. I am sure each of us know people who were turned of by their greed as evident last week.

Re: 2007/11/30/open-web-awards-niche-social-networks/

NOMINATE – www.nethooks.com

Re: 2007/12/13/jobster-ceo-steps-down/

This is what happens when VC's invest on the people and not the concept. Jobster's business model has been changed 3 times now. And it begs the questions, what the hell did they do with the $41 million? Did they spend at least half of that on marketing? Last year Jason Goldberg was everywhere like a superstar.
VC will be stupid to invest on this company. Their concept is flawed and through experience, one the founding CEO or founders leave the company, that is the sign - Run and never look back. Take back that $7 million and invest on another start up, heck two other startups. And this time at least, pay attention more on the concept and not the people.

Re: 2008/03/09/zuckerberg-keynote-sxsw/

I am sorry, I was there and it was really messed up. I would have fired Sarah, if I was her boss. It looked like she was not well prepared and half way through, she started marketing her book. I mean, cmon, people paid a lot of money to be there and when you have Zuckerberg, I think she could have at least asked some professional questions instead of talking about how he was sweating when she was talking to him for the first time. I thought Zuckerberg did pretty well. I mean, some of the questions Sarah was asking were confidential financial questions and mostly were plain "stupid". Here is an example - Do you think Microsoft is happy with the ad deal? I mean, why ask Zuckerberg? what did she expect him to say - No? They are unhappy? That question should be directed to Microsoft and not Zuckerberg.

And what's up with her saying "I interviewed Michael Arrington and poured water on him?

She was not direct in her questions, which made it difficult for Zuckerberg to answer her questions directly. There were a number of times, even I did not know what she was asking and eventually prompted Zuckerberg to confront her " You have to ask questions". That was the best moment of the whole 45 minutes. I felt the last 4-5 minutes was the best part of the keynote where audience started asking direct questions. Sarah could have covered a lot of question but instead tried to be really "cool" or didn't know what she was doing. But one thing i know, at the end, the crowd was relieved that Sarah stopped talking and allowed the audience to ask questions. Begs the question, why the heck Sarah was there and will she still have a day job. I mean, this is like Ashley Simpson at SNL.

Re: 2008/03/16/lacygate/

So how long have they been sleeping together or did that just happen since she started writing the book on him?

F@#$...you had to ruin to my supper..Now I am going to have stinking nightmares for days just thinking about your statement.

Sorry.. Based on Jeremiah Owyang's post, it looks like LinkedIn will slowly focus less on front end networking and move towards enterprise networking. It has been evident based on the lack of attention users have been getting on LinkedIn's basic networking features, especially with all the errors and issues that have lasted for more than 2 months now. It is a perfect opportunity for another networking site to fill that gap.

http://www.web-strategist.com/blog/2008/10/28/l...
