Gladly wee Ped came back into my life a couple fo weeks before he passed on. I met him for the first time in 23 years in sleazy's and it was brill. The look on his face when he saw me was something I'll treasure for the rest of my life. So glad I met him again.

I see you came from Cranhill. I lived in Barlanark at that time and hung around ith the skivingtons, Tony and Jed and wee Billy Cunningham. We would have parties in Cranhill, I remember a particular one at Billy Cunninghams. In the morning we all went out and stole rolls and milk from people's doors and (I hate to say this) we knocked the milk money from the doors that hadn't been delivered to yet.

Jeese I was 19 and we were up to everything in those days. Wouldn't steal a sweetie in woolworths pick and mix now.

I went around with a girl called Jackie, she was a cracker, lol. Let me know if you remember us or any of the guys.

Sadly I didn't make it along to this night, Charlie got sick on his birthday, aww (get well soon charlie. By all accounts it was a brilliant night, Rab MacNamarra went along and gave it the thumbs up. It was seemingly jumping. Will defo make the effort to go to this next month.

Most of us just head straight to Blackfriars, don't be concerned about coming in yourself Frankie. If you do just ask for me or Charlie and you can hand out with us, we usually go in around 10.30 to be sure of getting a seat as we're all old, lmao. I don't know about door times but what I do know is that they vacate the pay in desk around the back of 12 or one. Remember it doesn't open till about 10ish. You will also find some of the folks upstairs in Blackfriars before we head downstairs. Please come along and introduce yourself, we aren't hard to spot, we're all the old mods who take up the tables on the dance floor, lol.

This was a great night folks and there are more to follow. Check out the metling pot myspace to see what they have in store for us. The next offering is a band night with two bands, Modus and Underground Jam, this will be a brilliant night and at only £9 a ticket how can you lose. Please remember these guys do all of this for free and the money for the tickets is only to cover the costs of the bands.

Big thanks to the Melting Pot guys for all the hard work they do in organising events for us for no profit, THANKS GUYS. xxx

Who is the guy in pics 5, 6, 7, and 8. I think I know that face. I wish the pics were still instead of a slide show though as it's hard to see the faces in the mickey oates one before it tuns over to the next slide.

Are there any plans to have a basic gallery where we can see the pics better?

I was in touch with Johnny Allans brother just recently and he didn't mention his brother had died. I do know that Johnny Wallace from sighthill was killed in a house fire. Must write back to Johnny Allans brother again.

Billy we'll be at Friday Street on Friday night the 28th March. Would love to see you there, you'll know me when you see me, the hairs just a little longer and darker, lol. No peroxide for years. If you're in touch with any of the others polease get them down there if you can. Saw wee Dobie a few years back and it was great to see him. I actually started my campaign to find all the mods to find all you lot from the real old days so it would make my millenium to meet up with you all again.

Please post if your gonna be there so that I can watch out for you.

Robert, sitting here trying to work out who you are. Your memory is corret about the house in Barlanark, except that it was my house, 22 Burnett Road, lol. Jackie was my flat mate for a while.

Would love to get all the eastenders back together as when I think of the mod days those are my favourite memories. I'm not usre is Jackie ever went out with Ged but then who knows, she had a few boyfriends, lol. The name Tracy Brenna rings a bell.

That night in night moves was brilliant for me, I got to go back tage and interview the Truth for the Modernist magazine, those were the days eh?

Robert, please remind me of who you are. Obviously I would love to meet up with you again at Friday Street, and any of the others your in touch with.

Funnily enough I was in Friday Street one night before Christmas and there were loads of scooters, was just talking to Charlie about that today and wondering why I haven't seen them again.

Get yerself down there and lets have a great reunion this week, Jim Nairn of the Maryhill Mods is coming too for the first time, so should be great.

I got a mail from Tommy Allan this morning and clipped this bit for you:

"Rest assured oor Johnny is still as grumpy,ugly and bad tempered as ever. He's a bit like a tank .takes a fair bit to knock him oot."

It is Johnny Wallace that died not Johnny Allan. Can you also please note that It is Wallace with two l's. No biggy but just respectful to have his name spelled properly in his eulogy, he was a very good friend of mine.

Also please note that Jim McInch, Jan's brother, is also passed.

yeah you would have came to mine, people used my place as a bit of a hangout back then, half the time I would come home to a full house unexpectedly when she was living with me, lol.

Good times indeed and they are the times I have never forgotten. Loads of folks would come down, I remember Algy, sort of went out with him for a bit, the skivingtons and Billy were regulars, loved those guys.

sivanpunk, having read your post I am taking it that you are a skin who is now interested in mod. I really don't know the link there and to be honest I don't see a link from the mod point of view.

Skinheads didn't start until around 1969 and reached it's full conclusion during the seventies. Mods being from the start of the sixties were well before skinheads.

I would say that the only thing mods and skinhead's have in common, stylewise, was a shared liking in Ska music, and not all mods like that. I do like it and respect the style.

The 'Hard' mods??? Not understanding this, Mods were always only interseted in the clothing and the music. The best mod slogan there is is this one

"clean living under difficult circumstances".

I think some of the misconceptions comes from the fact that , just like today, there were different people back in the sixties ( and indeed any era mods are linked to). Mod has 3 sort of gradings of type.

There were the Mods, top of the list, obsessed with the clothing and always having the latest style. These people were the fashion leaders and were the ones who came up with all the ideas. They worked hard to be able to afford the best gear and to be able to frequent the best clubs. Loved their music and tended to like more of the soul/jazz/blues/beat type musics. This would be where you would find the ace face phenomenon.

Next we had the numbers, wore whatever good gear they could afford, emulated the mods above them and tried to obtain the same level of cool as them.

Lastly we have tickets, these were the rougher mods.

To equate these terms to modern day to help you understand them more we could say that the Mods at the top of the chain were like the people today who are fashionistas, they wear all the best designer clothing and many have clothing made for them by top tailors or designers, people who use shops like Kathrine Hamnett and Karen Millen

Below that equal to the numbers below that today we have the people who shop in the mid level of the high street with shops like next, oasis, river island, hope you get the drift here.

The tickets would equate to the chavs of today, shopping in the lower end shops or the burberry phenomenon.

Translating this is difficult, you have to understand the mod psyche. If we take a film like Quadrophenia as an example (although it's a bad one really) guys like Jimmy and his mates were numbers. It would be these guys along with the tickets who would be more thought of as the 'hard mods'.

I hope I've explained this well enough, it's hard to express in text. The thing is, in every era there are always different levels of a style. It's hard for some people to grasp this but I lived and grew up in the sixties with mod parents and aunts and uncles and I regularly heard these terms used, so I kinda understood these terms from an early age. I would hear them saying "oh that wee wullie (or whatever) is just a wee ticket", lol. This is where that term comes from and I'm proud to have been there when it all started the first time. I even have pics of me in wee ski pants and poncho's lol.

Don't be afraid to ask more questions if you don't understand the heirarchy.

Sorry, should have added. Politics, now this is a personal thing now and it was personal then. Some people are political and some are not. I'm not sure what you are meaning when you refer to 'politics' though. Please enlighten on what you mean, are we talking about the politics or the worlds economy or some other type of politics?

There are a few stories of where the tag 'numbers' came from. Another theory is from the wearing of t-shirts with numbers on them. Jordana Robinson does quite a good descriptive on mods and where it all began, I can't quote it here out of respect for her request to not copy her work but you could search on the net for her.

I suppose we will all just have to go by our own experiences and the stories we've been told I don't see a reason for disagreement or contradiction here.

I checked a little into this and came up with this from the bbc.co.uk site which kinda confirms two layers of mod, at least.

"From being a scattering of ultra hip subterranean club dwellers, Mod had quickly evolved to take on a definitive culture and structure of its own. At the top, there were the Aces, still on the cutting edge, still setting the pace, still listening to the hippest tunes. The individuals may have changed, but the attitude had not. It was perfectly possible, while grooving to obscure ska tracks in some Shepherd's Bush basement club, to bump into David Bailey, Twiggy and Mary Quant in the same evening.

The next strata were the instantly recognisable and much maligned ‘Tickets’ or ‘Numbers’. They were first noticed in East London, when gangs of arrogant, strutting kids began to descend upon dancehalls and nightclubs, causing inevitable confrontation. Their look generally followed where the Aces lead, although with a more working class flavour. The shapeless army surplus Parka coat became iconic as well as practical. It protected the wearers’ expensive weekend suits from the vagaries of the London climate, and was also kept the cold out while weaving among the traffic on the regulation scooter. These scooters – predominantly Italian Vespa and Lambretta models – were spectacular. Bedecked with peacock fans of wing mirrors, and decorated with numerous headlights, crash bars, whip aerials, white wall tyres and high backed seats, they were possibly the coolest thing ever to hit the tarmac."

I would say that everyone should do their own research to make sure they get an accurate account as we all seem to disagree on some areas.

Robert, I remember you from back then, I also recognised the name once I knew the surname. I think I can even see my ex in the pics with the cranhill and sighthill mods pics. I married Mick Prior of the Sighthill Glory Boys, sad but true but it's ok we're divorced now, lol. Had two kids with him.

Thanks for letting us see these pics, good memories for me.

Oh and I think I've seen you in Friday Street before but didn't know you, could be wrong though.

I would agree that it's great to get information from us lot that have been there but would urge you to do as much research as you can from other places too. You can't just go by what other people say as this is our personal opinion and experiences are different for all mods. I would urge you to continue with your own research into these areas, perhaps get the views of others too.

The main thing is to form your own opinion and start basing your style on your own findings and opinions, this is what makes us individuals.

The number one rule (for me) about being a mod, is to not just follow the crowd. Mods were leaders in fashion, not followers, so strike out on your own and learn all you can and your own style will follow that.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you're doing, welcome to the fold.

I missed the Modus gig cos someone didn't remind me :( lol. They are playing in Zico's on the 5th April, backing band for The Underground Jam rumours abounded this gig was cancelled but it is going ahead as planned and has been confirmed by The Melting Pot. There were some last minute hitches with negotiation with the club involved and this has been sorted out.

Robert, it was great to see you again on Friday, sorry I didn't get a lot of chance to catch up with you. First time I haven't been the taxi for a while and I had a bit much to drink, lol.I remember a lot of people you've mentioned and those were great times.

The only reasin it isn't the same just now is because we aren't all around, get all the gang down there and it'll be just like old times.

I think, perhaps Mikey is busy at the moment running Friday Street and also admin on the Scottish Mod Scene Forum with Craig Wilson from the Melting Pot. The guys work really hard to promote and run events for the mods in Glasgow and I doubt that leaves them a lot of free time to pop into other forums. I doubt very much if they are ignoring anyone, maybe they just want to give you space to do your own thing, while they do theirs.

In the mickey oates pic, the guy at the back on the far right is Snod (Alan Sloan) his brother is Billy Sloan the DJ, he was from springburn, I think. Rocognised jeff Black in there too, at the back left in white jumper. So many faces I know in that pic, brings it all back. I'm sad every time I look at Johnny Wallace and Peter Docherty (both sighthill glory boys), I wish they were still here. :(

If I'm not mistaken, with my old eyes, lol, my ex Mick Prior is the second from the right at the front. Like I said, it's hard to see.

OOps sorry about that pinky, I get the sites a little muddled sometimes as I've been a member for all of them for a while and all the site owners are linked.

Talk about muddled, on the front page of the site I noticed there was an appeal to sign a petition to get the faces onto the rock and roll hall of fame. I'm wondering if you mean The Small Faces, I signed the petition with everyone else a while back on myspace. The Faces was a group formed in 1969 and the front man was Rod Stewart, although ex band member Ronnie Lane was in the Faces.

Just thought I would tip you off so you could change it,just hope Steve Marriots daughters didn't see it yet, lol

lol, yeah I know they were in the band too, it was Kenney Jones that brought Stewart onboard. I'll see if I can find the link again. Charlie must have been muddled when he told me you two were trying to help the Small Faces in their bid to get into the hall of fame.

Rod Stewart, on his own, was inducted in 1994. I'll try and find the link again on my bulletin board but it was a while ago and will take me some time to go through it. There was one for the Ronettes too. Problem is, these bands don't get a second look as there's the "it's not rock and roll mentality"

The Melting Pot at Zico on the 5th April has to be one of the best nights Ive been to so far. The bands were brilliant. First up were modus with their own flavour of music and everyone was all dancing away to their tunes, really great set. Next up were the Underground Jam. Now my old memory told me I didn't really like the Jam much back in the day but they did it so well that I was singing along and dancing to all the old Jam classics. I now know I did actually like a lot of the old Jam stuff.

The guys were fantastic and the sound was impeccable, Ross evenbelted out an amazing rendition of My Generation, which was extremely well received. Close your eyes and you were at a Jam gig.

After the bands there was a fantastic mix of music from beat and soul to ska, we all had a great time and the Melting Pot guys came up trumps again with another special night.

I know Charlie took a few pics there of us and the band members, will they be going up here?
