I too think it would be shame if Apple decide to go that "buy only from me" approach. Can you imagine the only way to install anything into Leopard past iLife is to buy tracks, err. applications from iTunes ? Ridiculous. Same with SJ excuses about worries of stability of Cingular network at West Coast. Given today's state of the software engineering it shouldn't be extremly difficult to create runtime environment for third party software that is either trivial and hostile to use for third party and safe for the end user. I hate I am prevented to install or use my own software on my own device and  be given "it is too dangerous for me" reason.
